About

Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

  • Blood, Sweat and Tears not so good

by Gandolf01 on 10/26/15Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - MontgomeryRating: 2 out of 5

My wife and I saw B,S & T with Bo Bice in Montgomery. We are older and have been to a lot of concerts in our lives. We left at intermission. Bo Bice seems to be a bit full of himself. We have seen a number of the older bands recently to include the Beach Boys and Chicago. We understand that over time they tend to loose their edge. The music was good but they lacked pizazz. The first set drug and they did not play a single notable song. Bo seemed to want to just walk around and talk about how amazing everything was. Instead of him trying to be the lead entertainment he should just belly up to the mic and be a lead singer it might have been better.

  • Better than Ever

Wide range of music...Jazz, Blues, Soul, Rock. Very tight. Bo is very good out front.

  • Just great music!

My husband and I have always liked Blood, Sweat and Tears and were eager to hear their jazzy, pop sounds live and in person. Imagine our delight to learn that "home boy" Bo Bice has joined the group as lead vocalist! - And boy, can he sing! The two hours we spent in the performing arts center passed quickly, leaving us with some great memories.

  • OK performance

The music and arrangements were not the same as the originals. Not the best I've seen at MPAC. To frantic.

  • Blood Sweatband Tears

by 15Ok on 10/25/15Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - MontgomeryRating: 3 out of 5

Bo Brice was super, great voice and fit into the band. Very little original songs---you go to see these retro bands and you expect to hear more of what made you want to see them in the first place. Disappointed in song selection. Would not go again.

  • Blood, sweat, and tears were impressive!

by igorsito on 10/13/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the entire venue was well put together. Each band stay true to their original mantra and the sound got better with each song. Truly left a great impression on me. Even though I never got to experience the original band, this venue was the next best thing. Chuck Negron still rocking it at 73, are you kidding me?

  • As good as it gets!! Exceeded expectations.

by GerogeEighth on 10/13/15Cannery Hotel and Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Outstanding performance. FIVE stars. Exceeded our expectations. The band was TIGHT, every note and vocal right on, Bo Bice, horn section, guitars, keys, drums, everyone THE BEST! We had perfect seats under the stars at a table.

  • BS&T, Chuck Negron, & Mark Farner HIGH ENERGY

by BlackDiamond2441 on 10/13/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Clearly a "Baby Boomer" concert, but great for classic rock lovers of all ages. Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chuck Negron from Three Dog Night, & Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad were AWESOME!! They still rocked it out with HIGH ENERGY and BIG SOUND for over FOUR HOURS!!! Three encore songs! The Horn section was sweating buckets and really kicking it, Powerful. The solo by the new drummer from New Zealand was amazing! Bo Bice, the lead singer for BS&T is a young, phenomenal singing talent. Wow!! The price was reasonable ($48). I was able to get last minute seats online in the center of the center section (in the "sound sweet spot"). Fantastic! Thanks for a great evening, PBA!

  • Great band, was then, still is!!

Great band. Horn section is the soul of the band. Lead Singer did a great job and a good front man for the group.

  • Great concert, awesome sound system at the venue

by GD10 on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 5 out of 5

We had a wonderful time and the concert was truly amazing! We would have loved to be closer for pictures as I'm a professional makeup artist and my boyfriend works in lighting - but our seats were decent and we were impressed with the awesome sound system at the Pompano amphitheater. Everyone was laid back and happy - great ambience!

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears, Three Dog Night

by Bbadnerb on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 3 out of 5

There were some good songs played but the bang was not there anymore. It was something to do but I paid up for good seats and that was not worth it.

  • Warm up was the show

by Greatwhite0773 on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 3 out of 5

Neuron and Farner kicked ass. They were the show. Beneath and tears was slow to play any of their real hits. They should have been the warm up band.

  • Concert pretty good

by JL22200044fffrrr444 on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 3 out of 5

Disappointed that BST did not play many of their famous songs.

  • Bo Bice

by Rrabcdak on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing concert. Bo Bice was as good as David Clayton back in the day. All songs were great the band tight and speaker system clear and enjoyable. Chuck Negron was as good as in the day and grand funk awesome. Loved it

  • More then expected!

by sbff on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 4 out of 5

Surprised and delighted by all the acts! Fun to sing along with music from my "younger" years and Bo Bice is fantastic- loved the instrumentals of BST. Three and a half hours-Three great acts in one place...great night. Only thing better would have been on a weekend evening :)

  • Bo Bice takes BST to new level - Great Show!

by Floridabeachboy on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Went in with mild expectations having seen BST about 8 years ago- was enjoyable but not memorable. I knew Bo Bice from American Idol and had an inkling he might be a good fit here. Well, turns out he is a great fit. He brings power and heart to every song he does from the BST catalogue. Backed by a solid but what seems to be a revolving door of players other than a couple of band mates, Bo made the show great - yes, great!. What an unexpected surprise. One other note, there is a drum solo by Dylan Elise like no other I have seen - you have to see it to believe it.

  • Blood Swweat and Tears

  • Mark Farner: Eye Candy then and MORE now. Oh, Baby

by Msdeb1234 on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 5 out of 5

The thing I love about concerts at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre...getting to the front rail for a close up picture !! And seeing Mark Farner work his magic up close...unforgettable !! This singer and songwriter puts his heart into each song. Strong and with BETTER moves than Jagger, he entertains with the old favorites that feel fresh and exciting. He stole the show.

  • Concert was amazing!

by micarnate on 10/11/15Pompano Beach Amphitheater - Pompano BeachRating: 5 out of 5

There were 3 separate acts, Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad had so much energy and was incredible. Then Chuck Negron came on and they were fabulous - sounded just like he used to. Blood, Sweat, and Tears now has Bo Bice as their lead singer and he sounds like David Clayton Thomas. The band was awesome. Great venue to see a great concert. Felt like I was in my twenties again.
