Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

Amazing concert in a smaller more intimate venue with very friendly ticket prices. Bo Bice is an incredible addition to the group that has endured for so many years. I loved experiencing Spinning Wheel, Lucretia Mc Evil, Vehicle and many other great songs live during the concert and I'm still having very happy memories now.

  • Great!

A really good experience. Bo's vocals were spot on, and the band was tight! If you enjoyed Blood Sweat and Tears in the 70's as I did; you must see them now. Trust me, you'll love it!

  • Bo Bice BST were terrific

On (2-12-16) we were fortunate enough to catch the Bo Bice and Blood Sweat and Tears (BST) show at the Morongo Casino in the Palm Springs, CA area. . You younger kids should know that BST was a group that started in 1967. They were nominated for ten Grammy's...winning three and even beat out the Beatles's Abbey Road Album. They are back and this time they are headed up by Bo Bice, American Idol 4th season finalist --- second place to Carrie Underwood. To get familiar with Bo from that time, go to You Tube and find Bo singing (killing) Whiping Post ( an Allman bros tune). WOW!!! Now he is back fronting Blood Sweat and Tears and his voice is even stronger. While he is on Casino circuit, run---don't walk to get your tickets to one of his shows. You will not be disappointed. He and BST were GREAT!!!

  • Great band!

by DS1213 on 2/11/16Gordie Brown Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

The band sounded great and Bo Bice is a perfect fit! I was really impressed with his stage presence and play off the crowd. The only drawback was that the crowd was older and made it a little difficult to get into the music fully since we were all seated the entire time. That is to be expected I guess since sadly, horn bands are somewhat a thing of the past. The horns were great and the solos were awesome.

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears was phenomenal!!!

Blood, Sweat & Tears greatly exceeded my expectations and gave one of the best concerts I have seen in a long time. It was a wonderful flashback to times gone by!!!

The addition of Bo Bice as the front man to BS&T was a master stroke, you would think he had been with the Band since Day 1.

  • You've got to see this show!!!

by Talleelover on 12/8/15Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

So thoroughly enjoyed BS&T at the Birchmere on Dec 4th. The musicians are phenomenal but front man Bo Bice brought the vocals to life! He is a great performer and crowd pleaser. They performed all the hits but also gave us quite a treat with the instrumental jazz. They are a band for life. It never gets old. Thanks for a great evening guys, and thanks for the memories both old and new!

  • B,S & T...worth the 2 1/2 hour ride

by Pondguy on 12/8/15The Fox Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino - MashantucketRating: 4 out of 5

Despite the fact that not one original member is still with the band, they sounded great and played all the hits. Bo Bice sounds almost identical to David Clayton Thomas. Had I simply heard and not seen, I would have thought it was DCT. Bice is a great addition, and showed great respect for both the history of the band and the present group of musicians. Each member got a featured role at some point during the show. Dylan Eilse is the best drummer I've ever seen and nobody is a close second.

One of the best shows I have seen. Bo Bice is a dynamic singer and great entertainer. The musicians to a person are extremely talented. All are at the top of the professional ability with their musical instruments. The experience was fun. The time flew by.

by JamesCarlton on 12/7/15Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third time we have seen Blood, Sweat & Tears in concert. They are just as good as ever. Bo Bice sings almost exactly like David Clayton Thomas did in the original hits in the 1970s. Great show! We will keep going.

  • Excellent Show With Bo Bice

by deanva on 12/7/15Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Bo Bice is an excellent addition to the band. We saw them a few years ago and they are much better now. Probably no one could sound exactly like the original lead singer but Bo is very close. Great show. The rest of the band is great. The drummer is probably the best that I have ever seen. His solo got the only standing ovation during the show prior to the finale.

  • Blood Sweat and Tears w/ Bo Bice

by LarnRise on 10/27/15Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - MontgomeryRating: 5 out of 5

I was sceptical of Bo Bice fronting BST but he was respectible and kept the BST honorable past at the forefront of his performance. He interacted very well with the audience. BST was outstanding performing most of their notable hits and hits they should have written. Drummer Dylan Elise tied everything together with his driving talent and impeccable jazz drumming. He brought the house down during his drum solo and was eager to meet with fans. Nice intimate venue at Montgomery Performinf Arts Center in Alafreakingbama with only 1400 seats. 35 years of band members changes has not hurt the powerful rock and horns music they are known for. When they're in town go and relive the 60's.

This concert was phenomenal! The musicians were so talented and mesmerizing. Bo Bice was great. I have followed Bo since his American Idol days and he has grown into an amazing singer with a stage presence that goes on forever. I was very impressed with the Montgomery Performing Arts Center. Great venue.
