Blackberry Smoke on Tour

Though they've had their biggest success in the country market, the guys in Blackberry Smoke are rock 'n' rollers at heart. When they hit the concert stage, that becomes immediately apparent, but of course, so does the twangy side of their sound. Ultimately, what comes across is a roots-rocking blend that incorporates the influences of classic Southern rock, '70s/'80s heartland rockers and yes, a dash of modern country. And whether they're delivering a chugging good-time tune like "Rock and Roll Again" or a reflective ballad like "Let Me Down Easy," what comes through the loudest is the band's authenticity. These ol' boys are the real deal, playing it their own way with no nonsense and no rock-star moves. And since they do exactly what they feel, don't be surprised if that extends to covers of songs by their favorite artists such as Little Feat, The Grateful Dead or Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Blackberry Smoke in Concert

Blackberry Smoke has always done things their own way, rising to stardom by building an audience from the ground up, remaining resolutely independent and staying true to their roots. The band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2000, with singer/guitarist Charlie Starr, guitarist Paul Jackson, and brothers Richard and Brit Turner on bass and drums, respectively, and that lineup remained intact into their breakthrough and beyond, adding keyboardist Brandon Still in 2009. They released their debut album, Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, in 2003, but it wasn't until their third album, 2012's The Whippoorwill, that Blackberry Smoke started achieving major commercial traction. Their next record, 2015's Holding All the Roses, reached No. 1 on the country charts as well as No. 29 on the pop tally, underscoring the band's pan-genre appeal. Their homegrown blend of Southern rock and country has remained authentic and untainted through it all.

Saw them in Douglas, Ga a couple years ago and last week in Augusta, Ga. Both concerts were some of the best I have been to. I went to my first concert 46 years ago and have been to 50+ concerts over the years. Blackberry Smoke will not disappoint the most seasoned concert goer. If you get the chance, definitely try to see them live.

This was my first time seeing Blackberry Smoke and they were great! From the first song time the last, the band was cookin'. Their sound is a mix of Black Crowes and Little Feat with some Allman Brothers thrown in. The crowd knew every word to every song. I would definitely go see them again.

Great show, very good venue, preferred parking allowed us to get right inside quick out of the freezing cold. I've been looking forward to seeing Blackberry Smoke for a long time and they did not disappoint.

  • Blackberry Smoke is one of my favorite bands

by Stradian 6 on 12/8/24Saenger Theatre Mobile - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

I found Blackberry Smoke 12 years ago and fell in love with their style of music. Blackberry Smoke’s sound is that Southern Rock and Roll that I grew up with, mixed with modern motives and real life. Blackberry Smoke’s sound makes me feel like I have been invited to a party where only my friends and family are invited. In fact some of their songs have become a sound track to my life. There’s nothing like Riding the backroads on my Harley with the sound system cranked to the max listening to “Everbody knows she’s mine”, or chilling with my favorite beer at the lake with “I feel a good one coming on” setting the stage for a good time. I’ve seen Blackberry Smoke play 18 times now and I’m looking forward to at least 30 more times more if the opportunity arises.

  • Fantastic concert/seats not so much you have been warned!

by toppkatt on 11/11/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 5 out of 5

Blackberry Smoke put on the best concert ever. However, my seats were in the pit, Row G, and they consisted of little white folding wooden chairs, like the kind people rent for outdoor weddings. The legs of the chairs were zip tied together so people couldn't separate them. This was a huge problem. The chairs were very uncomfortable, since the venue tried to cram as many in as possible. It felt like the lady next to me was sitting in my lap, and I'm sure she felt the same way about me. Not only was everyone "touching"their seat neighbors, but it was incredibly hot with no moving air in this area. I'm sure the "touching"made it extra uncomfortably hot. After about 20 minutes of trying to twist my body and leaning awkwardly to avoid touching my neighbors, I gave up. I left my seat that was close to the stage and went up the steps about ten rows back. Thankfully, there was an empty seat on the aisle directly under a huge ceiling fan. It was wonderfully cool, so much more comfortable, and I stayed there the rest of the night. The seat I moved to was one of the permanent ones - much more spacious with the a drink holder even. I will never buy seats in the pit again. Lesson learned! You have been warned!

  • Great show

by Dave P on 11/10/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve seen Blackberry Smoke a few times and was excited to see they would be in st Augustine when I was there. Love the Amphitheatre and the atmosphere there (saw Willie Nelson, JJ Grey Mofro in the past). Smoke were just great, Charlie Starr is such a fun guitarist to watch, he looks like he’s having so much fun playing. The band of is just great, three guitars who complement each other and not competing to be a star. I’m an old guy and I confess I cried when he Upped out Gary Rossingtons guitar and played Tuesdays Gone. The crown singing along with about ha,f the songs was just awesome. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen, and at 70 I’ve seen almost everyone.

  • They are the funnest band ever!

by Glo on 11/6/24Fox Performing Arts Center - RiversideRating: 5 out of 5

I had such a great time. They are all so fun and enjoying their job to the fullest. On point with everything and smiling and dancing and interacting with the audience. I didn't know it was a thing to give out the setlist.... The new drunmer Kent signed and gave it to me. I loved the small quaint venue and danced most of the night. It was such a fun time. They're awesome and I am now a bigger fan than I was before and a officially a follower. They play so amazing.
