Blackberry Smoke on Tour
Though they've had their biggest success in the country market, the guys in Blackberry Smoke are rock 'n' rollers at heart. When they hit the concert stage, that becomes immediately apparent, but of course, so does the twangy side of their sound. Ultimately, what comes across is a roots-rocking blend that incorporates the influences of classic Southern rock, '70s/'80s heartland rockers and yes, a dash of modern country. And whether they're delivering a chugging good-time tune like "Rock and Roll Again" or a reflective ballad like "Let Me Down Easy," what comes through the loudest is the band's authenticity. These ol' boys are the real deal, playing it their own way with no nonsense and no rock-star moves. And since they do exactly what they feel, don't be surprised if that extends to covers of songs by their favorite artists such as Little Feat, The Grateful Dead or Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
Blackberry Smoke in Concert
Blackberry Smoke has always done things their own way, rising to stardom by building an audience from the ground up, remaining resolutely independent and staying true to their roots. The band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2000, with singer/guitarist Charlie Starr, guitarist Paul Jackson, and brothers Richard and Brit Turner on bass and drums, respectively, and that lineup remained intact into their breakthrough and beyond, adding keyboardist Brandon Still in 2009. They released their debut album, Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, in 2003, but it wasn't until their third album, 2012's The Whippoorwill, that Blackberry Smoke started achieving major commercial traction. Their next record, 2015's Holding All the Roses, reached No. 1 on the country charts as well as No. 29 on the pop tally, underscoring the band's pan-genre appeal. Their homegrown blend of Southern rock and country has remained authentic and untainted through it all.

Way, way too loud and too much of the same sound. The warm up band Drake White was better music and more entertaining.
Took a chance on going to see a band I knew nothing about and had a hell of a good time. First came the opening act, Drake White, and while a lot of the opening acts I've seen really never blow me away, White did. He got the crowd involved and did a fine job leading into Blackberry Smoke. I don't usually partake of country music. Don't get me wrong I respect all the bands but it's just not my cup of tea. When I was checking out bands that were coming to The Fillmore I took the time to watch the video attached to Blackberry Smoke. It was very good and for $20.00 I figure I'd give it a shot. Well, I was quite impressed with the band and now own all their cd's. i consider them more of a Southern Rock Band. So if you want some good entertainment, these are the guys to watch, and the price was right.
I really like this group and they are true entertainers. However, this is the second time that I have seen them and feel that their sound guy is terrible. Someone needs to tell him that not every show needs to be setup like an arena and that you can achieve a big sound without extreme volume. You know its bad when you can barely understand the singer and can't discern the instruments from each other. It was obviously not the room because the opening band sounded great. I love the group but unless that changes I won't go to another show. Hopefully this is addressed. That being said if you don't care about being able to hear the music, the band certainly rocks! As for the venue, I thought it was great- like a much more modern and cleaner 9:30 club.
BBS rocked the house!!!!! First time to the Fillmore, though. Floor was packed....balcony not much of an option. Venue was charging $20/p to sit in good balcony seats...above and beyond ticket price. Really guys?! $9 a beer, $12 cheeseburger and $7 fries....BRING YOUR WALLET!!! Once again, BLACKBERRY SMOKE ROCKED THE HOUSE!! Too bad 'the house' wasn't a better place to get rocked....and see who was rocking you!
Went to see Blackberry smoke at the Filmore on Friday 2/4 , and they brought the house down. This was the first time I seen this band and I would no doubt see them again, hopefully in Lynchburg Va in April. I highly reccomend seeing these guys, they play these small venues and it won't be long before they are headlining their own tour. They are currently opening for Zac Brown band, but they only get about 1/2 hr playtime, your really need to see them when they are the main show. The Drake White band opened for them at the Filmore and I was pleasently surprised at how good they were as well. Bottom line, BBS was great, we had a great time , met some great people in the crowd and rocked our heads off !!!
We had not heard BS before and were really surprised at how good the show was. We used to see The Outlaws and Lynard Skynard back in the day and thought they were just as good. Reminded us of the late 70's when country rock was in it's hey day
Fantastic show. Great seeing the band be a headliner and playing more material than as an opening act for Zac Brown. It felt like a good time comin on and make sure you let those sleeping dogs lie!
Its the closest I can come to good 70's Rock n Roll without traveling back in time. Blackbery Smoke has that good ol southern rock feel and their presence on stage is exhilarating. The band is very talented. My wife and I had a blast!
Blackberry Smoke @ The FILLMORE, Silver Spring, Fri. Feb.8th, were power-chord energetic, exhilarating, exciting and strong-hold electric with a power-packed punch of hard driven dead-on guitars with precision. They should have gotten a pre-show agreement with the club for a contract to record it LIVE for a CD-Release due to the fact that their performance and delivery was that damn powerful and good. The venue was packed to the gills with fans and their unbelievable ticket price of only $15.00 proves that they just want to please their fans and not rake them across the coals on money costs!!! I'm pretty sure they played ALL their songs off the new album, "Whippoorwill", but changed the order and infiltrated about 8-9 others of course that were all their really great hits. I could name about 3 other really good hits I would have loved to hear, but the fact that they played their BEST ear-pleasing NEW song and radio single, "Pretty Little Lie" shows they are a commercial success!!!
This band is good, really good and they definitely blew away the opening band. That said, they don't seem terribly special. They are fine for a decent night out, but I wouldn't travel far to see them. They have the skills to be great, they just need to break out, let loose and go for it! Don't play so conservatively. The music is enjoyable, but if they want to get to the level of the Allman Bros., Molly Hatchet or Lynyrd Skynryd, who seem to be their influences, get those guitar solos and jams going! Less keyboards. Singer has an exceptional voice. They have the "look," too with all the hair and beards. My advice: get wild!! But then I grew up on heavy metal, ha, ha. Plus, all the songs seem the same style. Do a Buck Owens or Johnny Cash cover for some variety!
Good Band.... Good "intersted in watching the band vs. drinking" crowd. Please bring them back! They are only getting a bigger following!!!
Blackberry Smoke was full of energy and rocked the Paradise Rock Club. Charlie Star is an amazing song writer and it all comes out when seeing these guys live. Southern Rock is alive and well and Blackberry Smoke is carrying the torch! I would recommend anyone to see these guys play no matter what genre your into. A very talented band and great stage presence. These guys are a class act!
Catch these guys while you can in these small venues, Charlie and boys bring it.
This was the first time my boyfriend and I had seen Blackberry Smoke live and we were impressed with how good they were. Amazing show!
My first time seeing this band and I'm sooooo glad I did! What a fantastic show!
Such a nice atmosphere in there for this concert, the band was simply amazing! Highly recommend and would definitely go again if they were back in Boston sometime.
SEE THIS BAND!! Do not be afraid of the "Southern Rock" tag. If you love music and great musicianship you owe it to yourself to see these guys ASAP. Blackberry Smoke is the real deal. No cutting corners Solid Musicians with just enough "slop" to keep it lively. The songs are there with catchy melodies to back up the Good Ole' Boys" stories (and that is in no way a slam). Blackberry Smoke IS Southern Rock but so much more! I've said this in the past and I'll say it again. Not since the Classic Days of the original LYNYRD SKYNYRD has a Band deserved or needed the Music Worlds attention!!
Really great show! it's the Paradise that makes shows tough to bear... Small, intimate space, but crowded and the sound is terrible if you're in the back. Blackberry Smoke was awesome, Drake White was a really good opener
Loud and proud. They were awesome and put on an energetic hour and half show with many of the Southern rock sounds. The guitar sound was incredible and they just killed it. Will not miss them anytime they hit Boston in the future.
All that mattered, they played my personal anthem, "Good One Comin' On."
