Blackberry Smoke on Tour

Though they've had their biggest success in the country market, the guys in Blackberry Smoke are rock 'n' rollers at heart. When they hit the concert stage, that becomes immediately apparent, but of course, so does the twangy side of their sound. Ultimately, what comes across is a roots-rocking blend that incorporates the influences of classic Southern rock, '70s/'80s heartland rockers and yes, a dash of modern country. And whether they're delivering a chugging good-time tune like "Rock and Roll Again" or a reflective ballad like "Let Me Down Easy," what comes through the loudest is the band's authenticity. These ol' boys are the real deal, playing it their own way with no nonsense and no rock-star moves. And since they do exactly what they feel, don't be surprised if that extends to covers of songs by their favorite artists such as Little Feat, The Grateful Dead or Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Blackberry Smoke in Concert

Blackberry Smoke has always done things their own way, rising to stardom by building an audience from the ground up, remaining resolutely independent and staying true to their roots. The band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2000, with singer/guitarist Charlie Starr, guitarist Paul Jackson, and brothers Richard and Brit Turner on bass and drums, respectively, and that lineup remained intact into their breakthrough and beyond, adding keyboardist Brandon Still in 2009. They released their debut album, Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, in 2003, but it wasn't until their third album, 2012's The Whippoorwill, that Blackberry Smoke started achieving major commercial traction. Their next record, 2015's Holding All the Roses, reached No. 1 on the country charts as well as No. 29 on the pop tally, underscoring the band's pan-genre appeal. Their homegrown blend of Southern rock and country has remained authentic and untainted through it all.

  • so suprised !!

by tallredhead on 4/6/13House of Blues Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I purchased tickets to this concert not knowing ANYTHING about the group Blackberry Smoke other than the brief description of Southern rock roots and similar to Lynard Skynard. for the price, I figured what the heck..... well this band ROCKS! their music was soulful, with plenty of rock to satisfy my rock roots. They had such a diverse, rich set of music unlike the opening band, Drake White, who were good but songs were too similar. I would definitely see this cool band again! Pleasantly surprised to say the least.

  • Blackberry Smoke has a great sound these days !

by Lvcorona on 3/27/13House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

They played all the songs off the new disc plus several other tracks , the band sounded o k but the vocals were bad . Not the fault of the singer but bad PA system . I hope to see them many more times but in a better venue !

This group is worth seeing. I had never heard of them until they were recommended in a Zach Brown email. I will be following them for a long time.

  • Blackberry Smoke in Dallas

by BaylorMan on 3/23/13House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Having been a fan since hearing about the band and checking them out on YouTube and hearing their CD's.....I had to catch them when they came to the House of Blues in Dallas on March 21st. So glad I did. Drake White was the opening act and I really enjoyed his show. Blackberry Smoke hit the stage and ran through their set with very little time between songs, which was good. The set list flowed perfectly. They are as tight a band as I've heard in quite sometime. They had the crowd in the palm of their hands from the moment they came on until the final note. They played all the songs the fans came to hear and they played them extremely well. Great show! Don't miss this band when they come. I can't wait for them to come back - I'll be there for some more Blackberry Smoke.

    by Les59 on 2/21/13Bluebird Nightclub - BloomingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My first time at the Bluebird and what a cozy, warm atmosphere to watch and jam to my favorite new band, Blackberry Smoke. I missed their sold out show in Indy because I waited to the last minute to get tickets so after crying in my beer for my stupidity I vowed not to make the same mistake twice and what can I say? I was blown away for their awesome musicianship and just downright southern boogie woogie at its finest!!!!! I love their cd's but their stage presence is second to none!!!! What a great live band!!!! I will travel near and far to see them again!!

by HaywireDrummer on 2/14/13Bluebird Nightclub - BloomingtonRating: 5 out of 5

These guys are fantastic!! This show ranks near the top of my top five favorite concerts! Blistering songs from the first chord to the end of the encore! It was a smaller venue, but these guys played as if they were headlining at Madison Square Garden!! I will definitely go see these guys many, many more times.

Great show! High energy, this talented band combines classic southern rock with country flair. This is the second time I've seen these guys and I will see them again. Don't miss out the next time this band comes to D.C.

  • Blackberry Smoke ROCKS!!!

Happened to find these guys several months back online ,have since seen three times, NC, SC and the show at the Filmore in Silver Springs MD. The show at SS MD was the best so far. These guys just crank out good southern rock and roll. It was a five hour drive to SS MD but the show was well worth it. Their live performances really make this band. Next stop will be at Ziggys in Winston Salem NC in April. Cant wait. as for the Filmore in SS, closing at 11:00pm is a joke. for the price of the drinks they can afford to pay for electricity to stay open until midnight.

  • Smokes rocked!

by Bevmania on 2/11/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

The Smokes put on a fabulous show! Very tight on their instruments, awesome vocals, and energetic performance. Southern Rock for a new generation and they did their predecessors proud! Expect to see them on the Grammy Stage next year.

  • Blackberry Smoke at the Fillmore!

by Norm13 on 2/11/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 4 out of 5

Best venue in D.C. area; free parking, plenty of grub/pubs within walking, and uncrowded restrooms. Drinks are expensive, so plan accordingly. Blackberry Smoke was outstanding. Not a Fla guitar army (3), but two were plenty; these guys work together as well as anyone this side of Keith/Ronnie. Many of the songs were very similar, but blending in some Led Zep and Allman material kept you listening closley for nuggets. Sound quality and volume were spot-on. No Skynyrd as some profess, not even Molly Hatchet, but sooo much better than the pop-country acts filling arenas. Best show for the money on tour today!!

  • These guys deserve a Grammy!

    by Clint1066 on 2/11/13Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

So tough to categorize their music into 1 single genre, which is why I love them so much but also why they will likely never ascend to full stardom. Ex - Zac Brown (co-writer on a few BBS songs, & owner of their label - 'Southern Ground') just won a Grammy in the country category. Listen to at least half of 'Whippoorwill' & there's no way you could call that country. And on the flip-side, they have at least 3 songs just on that album that could easily win for Best Song - Country category. Very much a hybridized sorta sound...lots of Black Crowes in there, along w/Allmans, Skynrd, maybe some Hank Jr, & even a dash of Kid Rock! But enough of that - all that truly matters is that I'm 41 and have been going to live shows for 25+ yrs & this was easily among my top 5 . Right up there w/seeing Pearl Jam in Athens, GA on a rainy night, outdoors in 1991. Eddie Vedder had a horrible sore throat & still killed it. This was damn close - these 5 guys just know how to please a crowd, plain & simple. As a GA native, transplanted up to BOS, I couldn't be happier to see the success & the crowd that BBS drew at the Paradise. Really hope they can branch out beyond the SE & make it happen nationwide. They're good enough to open for any of the big names, & probably better than a lot of them too!
