Bill Maher on Tour
As fearless as any stand-up to take the stage, Bill Maher has never been shy about letting audiences know what he's thinking. With the razor-sharp wit he's brandished since his start in New York's comedy scene in the late ‘70s, Maher's candor has made him not just a comedy icon but one who's keenly attuned to the ever-changing worlds of politics and popular culture.
In his regular live appearances, Maher flaunts the same caustic but clear-eyed humor that's made HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher a television institution since 2003. Skewering idiocies, banalities and hypocrisies from across the political spectrum, Maher doesn't flinch from controversial topics of the day, and he finds laughs in subjects that other comedians don't dare to touch.
Bill Maher Background
No subject in politics or culture is safe from Bill Maher's reliably ruthless wit. Politically incorrect and proud of it, he is a comedian and commentator who plays by no one else's rules. This quality has made him a favorite of audiences and TV viewers for over four decades.
After cutting his teeth at his hometown's legendary comedy club Catch a Rising Star in the late ‘70s, the native New Yorker gained a wider profile through appearances on The Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman. He got his chance to show off his own skills as a talk show host when Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher debuted on Comedy Central in 1993. The Emmy-winning late-night political show continued to garner laughs and controversy on ABC from 1997 to 2002.
Since 2003, Maher and his guests have enjoyed free rein on Real Time with Bill Maher, the fearless and freewheeling talk show that begins its 18th season on HBO in 2020. But as busy as he may be on his own show and as a guest commentator on CNN, MSNBC and elsewhere, Maher is always ready to demonstrate his enduring prowess as a live stand-up in venues throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Superb! My family agrees that it was worth every cent. Acoustics were excellent.
Bill Maher is a great comedian. We are talking sharp, biting wit. He says the things that others are afraid to say. Good performance overall. Wish he had done a "New Rules" segment in his performance (like he does on his show). He gave Obama a walk on some things -- wish he had zinged him a bit more. Democrats, Independents, and open-minded Republicans would enjoy this show -- he (rightfully so) skewers prominent Republicans (Bush, Palin, etc.) Overall, a most enjoyable evening.
If you like Bill Maher (and the Majestic Theatre in Dallas was full of us), you would have loved this evening with Bill Maher. Something for everyone (or to offend everyone!). A running gag throughout was that Bush was somewhere in the theatre. Also, I guess Governor Good Hair couldn't fit this one into his busy teabagging schedule.
He was great and he really wished George Bush was in the audience. It was pretty funny. Maybe he was. He did a great job and mostly a friendly crowd. The best was the people leaving during his religion jokes. Anyway, he was great. Dont have to be super into politics.
Very funny and natural. My only comment is that some of the jokes were the same as on his HBO show.
Once again Bill Maher wit and humor was outstanding. He is able to take complex issues and make them funny and insightful.
It takes a certain kind of person to like Bill Mahr's humor and sensibility. It seemed that the whole theatre was full of those who love him. He was raunchy, extremely funny and right on target (in my opinion) on what is happening in our world today. If you watch his show on HBO then I feel you would love his act. It was great!
Witty, funny, thought provoking. Wish my conservative friends or any conservative would attend one of his shows. Maher explains the error of their ways in a comical, entertaining way. A way in which they might understand. As it is he's preaching to the choir. But he was extremely funny, better than I expected.
It was so great to finally see Bill Maher. The venue was perfect and it was so great to be in a theatre of like minded people laughing at the same things I find funny and agreeing with stuff I hold dear to my heart. I hope Maher comments about how we in conservative TX aren't all like the buffoons we are sometimes made out to be.
AWESOME, Right on target, never missed a beat!! It was better than TV because it was ALL BILL MAHER!! LOVED IT!!!!
Would see him again. Tells it like it is. No bs here.
perfect Sarah Palin Sucks ...the way he keeps everyone on check, both sides is a must, but the Bush Administration should be prosecuted
a must see if he comes through your town or even close to your town << never predigest on who he dishes << very great show
Bill was spot on with this performance. I highly recommend it.
Bill Maher delighted, shocked, and amazed the crowd at the Mahalia Jackson Performing Arts Center. Bill was bold, unafraid, and hilarious! Way to call out the religious establishment for their mind numbing dogma. We drove 6 1/2 hours to see him. Bill, we love you here in Alabama - remember we have liberals here, too!
Bill was relaxed and pretty much fun mixed with political, religious commentary. You do not have to agree with everything Bill has to say to enjoy his show, a full 2 hours of entertainment.
This was the best show! I have been a faithful follower ever since Politically Incorrect aired on late night TV so many years ago, and I haven't stopped watching! I was very lucky to have seats front row, center stage. This was an experience I won't forget. You've got to come back to the Big Easy again, Bill. We love you here!!
Bill Maher was excellent. Laugh-out-loud, clap-your-hands, stomp-your- feet, standing- ovation funny. His humor evokes memories of George Carlin. Warning: If you are a Republican, you are likely to be highly offended by Maher's political humor.
I had to travel 3 1/2 hours and spent about $1000.00 to see Bill Maher in New Orleans and it was worth every penny. He is the best topical comedian since George Carlin.
Extremely entertaining! His material was mostly current, completely relevant and truly funny. My girlfriend giggled like a schoolgirl throughout and once laughed so hard she actually spilled her drink, on me, of course. Harped a little to much on Bush (old news) but really didn't spare jabs to anyone including our new president, his wife, congress and conservatives. If you are a Republican or a Limbaugh fan, Mr. Maher probably hit a little close to the belt. However, should your political ideology lean further left, then the only pain you felt was from your butt sitting in the seat to long. Really enjoyed the show.
