About

Bill Maher on Tour

As fearless as any stand-up to take the stage, Bill Maher has never been shy about letting audiences know what he's thinking. With the razor-sharp wit he's brandished since his start in New York's comedy scene in the late ‘70s, Maher's candor has made him not just a comedy icon but one who's keenly attuned to the ever-changing worlds of politics and popular culture.

In his regular live appearances, Maher flaunts the same caustic but clear-eyed humor that's made HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher a television institution since 2003. Skewering idiocies, banalities and hypocrisies from across the political spectrum, Maher doesn't flinch from controversial topics of the day, and he finds laughs in subjects that other comedians don't dare to touch.

Bill Maher Background

No subject in politics or culture is safe from Bill Maher's reliably ruthless wit. Politically incorrect and proud of it, he is a comedian and commentator who plays by no one else's rules. This quality has made him a favorite of audiences and TV viewers for over four decades.

After cutting his teeth at his hometown's legendary comedy club Catch a Rising Star in the late ‘70s, the native New Yorker gained a wider profile through appearances on The Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman. He got his chance to show off his own skills as a talk show host when Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher debuted on Comedy Central in 1993. The Emmy-winning late-night political show continued to garner laughs and controversy on ABC from 1997 to 2002.

Since 2003, Maher and his guests have enjoyed free rein on Real Time with Bill Maher, the fearless and freewheeling talk show that begins its 18th season on HBO in 2020. But as busy as he may be on his own show and as a guest commentator on CNN, MSNBC and elsewhere, Maher is always ready to demonstrate his enduring prowess as a live stand-up in venues throughout the U.S. and Canada.

    Bill Maher amazing!

by NewRulesFan on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Bill Maher's show was unforgettable. He was as funny as he is on his show. He is so great because he shares his hilarious perspective on American culture and politics. How grateful we are for people like him who help us question the America we love - it only makes me love it MORE!

What a waste of a brilliant mind

by Texsmith on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Bill Maher is so quick-witted, so smart, so well-versed on current events and politics...it is a shame that he has to go for the offensive gutter, using foul language, 2-year-old-type sexual humor, and abusive insults when he is so capable of looking at the common flaws of humanity and relating them in ways that make people laugh at themselves, without having to walk away feeling like they need to wash their hands. I'm not a prude and went in hoping to be entertained by his brilliant, fast, educated mind, but came away wishing I'd kept my $400.

    i love bill!

by mch4 on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

bill was great as i knew he would be - it was kinda hard to see him with the lighting the way it was and the chicks next to us kept getting up to get more drinks. also, because we've seen everything bill has ever done, we had heard a bit of his material before..... but i was still thrilled to be in the same room with him!! i was so proud of the audience because i don't think anyone walked out on his show which i guess can be a common occurrence.......

    Bill Maher is so funny!

by Alley924 on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

This was my first time at the Majestic Theater and it is so beautiful. Bill was so funny, and it is scary how right he is about politics, religion, news media, relationships, and pot. I love how he interacts with the crowd. He covered a lot in his hour and forty five minutes on stage.

    bill maher, great night!

by sindioses on 7/12/09Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New Orleans

while his material reflected much of what you see on his show on a regular basis (real time with bill maher), it is still hysterically funny and poignant to our times as always. the man hits on the nerve of america in a way that is relevant to people like myself pushing 40 or older. a younger crowd might not get all of his references and a few people did leave, offended by his use of language, but his racial comments were within the context of his material and discussing the possible thoughts or words of others, not his own. that and the fact that I knew the material from his show are the only negative comments I could make about his act. I agree him on most of his opinions and am not trying to be a yes man to him, but he and his act reflect much of what i am feeling about the political, social and economic landscape of this country and perhaps the world. that's why he is so poignant: he hits areas that matter to everyone; even if they don't necessarily agree with him, people are concerned about the same topics that he is. the venue was small and warm feeling, well lit and surrounded by beautifully lit water fountains, and the building and grounds themselves were very enticing to the eye and spirit. while the bar was well stock, a larger selection of other goodies would have garnered greater revenue for the theater. we subsided on drinks and candy, whereas coffee drinks and hot dogs and sandwiches at least would have been better to munch on. overall, the performance and environment were spot on with minor distractions that did not take away from the overall experiences, kudos to bill maher and the theater for a good show !

    Bill Maher Rules!

by Turdsniff on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Liked his ABC show Politically Incorrect years ago. Like his HBO show now. He rips Republicans and Democrats. I like it! He calls it like he sees it and pulls no punches.

Just going to this show will make you smarter!

by tommyhgun on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Bill Maher is one of the most thought provoking people of our time. It would not be fair to just call him a comedian; although he is wildly funny. He challenges many of our accepted societal idiosyncrasies and offers a different and sometimes hilarious viewpoint.

    Get some new material

by texaslady51 on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

I buy HBO for the explicit reason of viewing Bill's show and I "religiously" watch it. However, his timing appeared to be off this concert and I had seen most of the material he used. In that respect I was disappointed - however - I will always be a fervent fan and probably will buy tickets next time he comes to Dallas. I just hope he works on new material the next time. Perhaps the Texas heat got to him. The Majestic Theater is a wonderful venue. I love going there and hope to see more events scheduled.

    Maher in Dallas

by DJWaxyQtip on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

We've been waiting quite a while for Maher to visit Dallas, unsurprising as his humor does tend to skew against the principles of the southern region. He didn't disappoint, pulling no punches against the newly localized ex-prez Bush, religion, or any number of overzealous attendees feeling the need to add their own brand of disruption to the proceedings. Maher proved, as he does every week on HBO, that the fear of diminishing comedic returns in a post-Bush era are as unfounded as the American born-and-bred fears that he tears into with furious aplomb during his hilarious routine.

    Bill Maher was briliant!

by afindallas on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Bill Maher's performance last night in Dallas was pure genius. He was able to pull this off in George Bush's home town. That pretty much says it all. He's a genius and ..."some one you wanna have a beer with".

Maher was outstanding Live as he is on Cable

by FtWorthZiggy on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Bill provided the same timely commentary during his stand-up act that he shows with his HBO program, Real Time with Bill Maher. He was topical, biting, but most of all hilarious. His show compares to favirable to vintage George Carlin. He spares no one and comes across as scathingly funny.

    Bill Maher is the MAN!!!

by Dtown23 on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

He put on a fabulous show. My wife and I both loved the show and hope we get a chance to see him again. Come back to Dallas soon!!! The only thing we had issue with was the venue. The seats were not comfortable at all.

    Intellectual and Hilarious!

by Booduh on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

With nothing but a microphone and a music stand, Bill Maher shared current events and filtered them through his humor-mill to the crowd's delight. Not surprisingly, the big themes were Republicans and Religion. His Burka fashion show was a nice change of pace and quite funny. The show felt like a casual conversation and had certain audience members so giddy, they felt the need to shout out parochial sentiments, which Maher adeptly used to get a laugh. I felt very engaged throughout the show and must say it was very comforting to be in the same room with someone I watch regularly and look up to. I've spent many nights on my couch, re-arranging my schedule to watch Real Time and typically find myself learning something in the process. Last night's show was no exception. Maher's ability to communicate common sense, expose toxic human mechanisms and promote comfort with paradoxical ideas is supreme. He is a rare type of comedian. Intellectual and funny. His voice is both important and enjoyable. His show was absolutely the same! My brother and I enjoyed re-hashing our favorite moments at a quiet local bar after the show. We had almost as much fun doing that as we did at the show. I think that speaks for itself.

    Bill Maher - wow!

by overccc on 7/12/09Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

It was an amazing show. He addressed all of the lastest going-ons in political and pop-culture. The audience was so diverse and really responsive to him. He interacting with the audience - for better of worse. It must be interesting for him to come to a city like Dallas (with its stigma) and then to be suprised with the support of a full house.
