Great to see Commander Cody & Bill Kirchen together in one band again. The boogie woogie did not disappoint. Almost had Too much Fun.
didn't even know who Bill Kirchen was til a week before the show. found out he was one of the original members of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen and throughout their career he was and is their guitar hero. see wiki for all the background info i cant even begin to supply. they were fabulous!! tight, fun, inventive; real pros who love bringing music to an appreciative audience. If you've ever got the chance- go see him!
The best night! The music, the incredible ability of the musicians and their obvious comfort playing together. It was like being in a room with close friends who knew how to jam! Thank you! Also, they both spent a lot of time with fans after the show, talking, taking pictures and signing autographs. They went above and beyond to give us all a fabulous experience!
Fantastic show. Great music, Kirchen and Bell got to be two of the best guitar players in the world.
Kirchen is always in top form on stage. The Titan of the Telecaster never ever disappoints. The addition of Christmas diesel-billy songs was just icing on the cake. Then add Commander Cody! What a great recipe for holiday fun. Finally, the Birchmere remains one of best places to enjoy great musicians.
The Birchmere is the perfect place to get up close and personal with these 2 talents. Bill Kirchen's music is classic Route 66 toe-tappin fun and his guitar playing is TOP NOTCH. Jason D Williams is a sight to behold with his WILD and outlandish antics on the piano. High energy that makes you dance in your seat.
We knew we wanted to see Bill Kirchen again. We'd seen him twice before and always love his shows. He did not disappoint. However, the real treat of the evening was Jason D Williams. We had not heard of him until we saw him listed on the playbill. We Youtubed him and knew some of what to expect. What we did not expect was an opening act delivering an hour of high explosive energy! It was wonderful! I highly recommend Bill Kirchen any time, his guitar work is great. Personally, I think Jason D Williams needs to be a headlining act!
I had no prior knowledge of either acts or The Birchmere. WOW, what a show. Venue was perfect for both acts. Two different styles that rocked. I will see these guys again.
Absolutely awesome. Fun musical excellent and the best touch of the best music in the world
As usual Bill was superb on the guitar. The Christmas songs were really good. The Commander added a special night of music.
Excellent show. Bill is a great entertainer. His guitar playing is great, the material is fun, the band was tight but swung. Have to mention that Daryl Davis as opening act was an added treat, and when Daryl joined Bill and his band for a few numbers, it took it up yet another level.
I had never heard of Darryl Davis, the opening act, but he was the boogie woogie king! Then Bill took the stage with his Popeil pocket fisherman and his Telecaster and laid down the dieselbilly until it was time for the big Wayne Newton grand finale Hot Rod Lincoln epic. Only disappointment was that he did not finish the show with Milk Cow Blues and lead the audience out the doors in a Pied Piper fashion whilst playing his yellow plastic trombone.
What an awesome way to ring in the holidays! It was a fun, intimate show with familiar and new holiday songs. Some non-holiday tunes too...including his extended-medley version of Hot Rod Lincoln! And his guitar playing skills are just as sharp as ever! I highly recommend his holiday show...or any one of his shows! Awesome guests too!!!
It was a fun show. We enjoyed the music, and had great seats. Kirchen is getting a lot older, and it shows.
The Birchmere was a great venue for Bill Kirchen's Christmas show. All the songs of the season (Daddy's Drinking Up Our Christmas, Truckin' Trees, etc.) plus a few old and new non-seasonal favorites. The sound was perfect and there was a very large and enthusiastic crowd to add to the fun. If you love honky tonk and rock-a-billy and missed the show make sure to put it on the calendar for next year. By the way, the new stage lighting at the Birchmere is spectacular.
