Big Thief on Tour

Big Thief, the group known for uniquely soft and vulnerable folk-rock, hit the road for their 2022 tour celebrating the release of their latest album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You. With a style that draws comparisons to Phoebe Bridgers, Stevie Nicks, alt-J, and Fleet Foxes, the group is best known for the hit single "Paul," a phenomenally composed and equally sad song about an estranged lover trying to get back into your life. The song quickly amassed more than 55 million streams on Spotify and catapulted the group's 2016 debut album, Masterpiece, into underground fame in the indie community, leading to stops at South by Southwest and a live performance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers." The group followed up their debut a year later with Capacity, which peaked at No. 15 on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums chart. Fans praise Big Thieff's live acoustics, calling the performance "absolutely fantastic" and "one of the best shows I've ever been to." Tickets are selling fast, so get yours to see Big Thief today.

Big Thief Live in Concert

Assembled in 2015 in the borough of Brooklyn by Adrianne Lenker and Buck Meek, Big Thief is a four-piece folk-rock band that also features Max Oleartchik and James Krivchenia. The group has released five studio albums in six years, charting in nine different countries, including reaching No. 1 on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums chart for their 2022 release, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You. The album also hit the Top 40 on the Billboard 200. Lenker is originally a native of Minnesota who learned music at an early age from her father. At age 12, she knew she wanted to pursue music as a passion and career. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and met Meek, a fellow alumnus, and the two kindred spirits formed a powerful relationship both on and off stage. The two wed and divorced shortly after, but still remain bandmates and self-described "deep friends."

    Playing what THEY want

by Sprang on 5/15/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

A little dismayed that "Spud Infinity" is getting crammed into the "big finale" role, it's a fine song but not as good as they seem to want us to believe. They didn't play at least 3 of my favorite songs, nor their now-near-classic "Masterpiece", opting instead for a couple of Adrienne solo songs and new songs. The sound was surprisingly good and the guitars sounded great, vocals were at a perfect level. Bass was a little buried, though, he does a lot of interesting work high up the neck that got lost, so I missed hearing that. Full-band vocal harmonies sounded fantastic. I could have done without a couple of the extended jams that didn't really go anywhere. Buck Meek is not really a soloist in the true sense. He creates interesting soundscapes, and interjects jagged shards of sound, and is clearly a capable guitarist, but has a long way to go to really embrace the role if the band is going to extend songs beyond the length of their recorded versions. Maybe he's hiding under Lenker's abilities. The first few songs had both guitarists mostly on acoustic, before switching over to electric. We heard elements of the Indigo Girls, Sonic Youth, Kate Bush, Neil Young, Bettie Serveert, Dylan. The Neil Young thing is apt, as he would often do those intimate acoustic sets, and other times these blisteringly giant epic electric rock jams. In those jams, though, Young was the clear focus with long guitar solos.... Big Thief leans on Lenker's playing but the jams feel more like a full-band thing, more about head-bobbing than goat-floating. 'Cattails' stood out to me, a song they've probably played a ton of times, but sounded fresh, with everyone fully committed to it, with Lenker singing with full passion, bouncing around, all while fingerpicking both aggressively and accurately. Loved it! Between-song pattern was understated, earnest, heartfelt. Lenker sometimes seems to forget she's in a hall with a few thousand people, and not at a folk club. If you're in the back you can't hear what she's saying when she talks so quietly. A good band with a potential for a long career, and worth seeing more than once, as they seem to change their set lists each time.

    Just Meh

by Maya on 5/13/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The venue was filled with millennials who were too uptight to dance, and judged you if you did. The band didn't play any of their hits. They changed the composition on a lot of their songs too. They also played a lot of unreleased stuff which is cool, but at concerts I want to know the songs and sing along. I walked out feeling disappointed.

Boring show. They say the whole time and didn’t play their hits. Shark smile which is one of their biggest hits was not even on the set list. Overall meh.

The event was cool. I love the theater. I was hoping for a little more interaction from the band, but the songs still sounded solid.

    Waaayyyy too loud

by Jimmy on 5/5/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

I expected a really mellow and chill show from Big thief , but this wasn’t the case. They tried to turn all of their songs into heavier versions of what they usually are. The acoustics and sound were truly terrible. Drums and vocals were turned up way too loud, making the other instruments pretty much unrecognizable. Ended up leaving the show early , I probably won’t see them again. Disappointing , most of their songs are really beautiful and I was looking for a show that matched that energy. I think they might need a new sound guy

Big sleepy gap in time between opening and show, great music when they got on! However, the sound quality and balance was poor. That’s on Paramount

    Amazing band--didn't deliver

    by S on 4/25/22The Anthem - Washington

I adore Big Thief and I love their music, but when you pay $50+ to see a band you expect them to play their most popular songs! The whole crowd was silent nearly the entirety of it because they were only playing songs that no one else really knew! I wish they at least played their most famous song, Paul.

I’m not your age demographic (>65) had no transportation, and couldn’t get to the Anthem Big Thief concert from Arlington. I listened to their latest album at home, followed by several older concerts on YouTube !

    Beautiful introvert friendly gig

by Ace on 4/21/22L'Olympia - Montreal

Such a beautiful moment. Second time seeing them play, first time was in the UK before covid. This time, lots of new songs and some bang on oldies as well as a generous encore. Really talented musicians of course and loooved the long funky instrumental moments. When it started, the sound was quite muddy though but the sound man clearly adjusted brilliantly along the way. And what a beautiful venue!
