  • big, but so few things to do.

by DEmmons on 10/21/25Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

I brought my two sons to Big Texas Comicon this year hoping to fill the gap left by PAX South, whihc has been canceled for a couple years now. We arrived in high spirits and in full cosplay, and cosplaying itself was a highlight of the trip, as many other people had joined in. We attended a panel with John Rhys-Davies and Lawrence Makoare which was the othr highlight. Sadly, after that, we quickly found there was literally nothing else to do but walk around the main hall until we got tired and went home hours earlier than planned. PAX was full of things to do, and most were free. This was more like a flea market for geeks. And while plenty of things for sale were interesting, we didn't primarily come to shop. There was very little in the way of organized activities to join at all and the main focus seemed to be funneling people into lines to get autographs and selfies with the celebrities in attandance, which is great if you're willing to spend $50 minimum for an autograph, and usually much more. this theme was present throughout - a nice Neverending Story exhibit was there for picture taking, but each character and prop there was a separate purchase. the Jurassic Park exhibit and the mini arcade were the only free activities at all. compared to the gaming-centric con we used to do as a father-sons day, where there was so much we couldn't fit it all in one day, this was quite a disappointment, and my kids (teenagers, not babies) were aksing to leave by mid-afternoon.

  • Well organized

by Justin on 10/21/25Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

I attend cons all over the country and this was one of the best run cons I’ve seen. Lines were managed well with plenty of spacing for vendors.

  • Could’ve Been Better for the Price

by Oscar on 10/21/25Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 1 out of 5

Not the best Comic Con experience this time around. It was pretty small and didn’t have much for TCG or Pokémon collectors mostly art and 3D printing stuff. For the price, I expected more variety or interactive areas. Kind of felt like you could see everything in 30 minutes.

  • Fantastic event

First time at this event, it was packed with energy , a fantastic well organized event. Looking forward to more!

  • It was ok

by Rina on 10/21/25Rating: 4 out of 5

The professional photo op was a bit to rushed and a little unorganized. The actual celebrity section had the celebs a little to close together and with the lines they kept going past the tape markers and it was really crowded. The vender booths where kinda to close to especially when you had people stopping in the middle of the walk way. The food was over priced like 11 dollars for just a hamburger no side and 5 dollars for a soda is asking to much with this inflation already being so bad... But other than that me and my husband enjoyed it and were happy we got to meet most the people we wanted to.

  • Best overall convention! Staff very friendly.

by Larriator3950 on 10/20/25Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Not overly crowded. Wait times where not very long even the one to get into the show. Show opened at 10 so I arrived at 845 to pick up my badge which took 2 minutes. Wait time time to get in was another 45 minutes which the staff had everyone enter in orderly and professional unlike alot if other cons when the doors open its like letting a mob through. Once inside I took my time to walk to the celebrity area and was able to get autographs from the cast of Happy Days. Are were very friendly and just struck up a conversation. Also met and got 20 selfies with John Rhys-Davies ( his helper took). Mr Davies was very kind and acted like we were old friends and just kept making different expressions hense the many pictures that were taken. I have never had such a great experience with any others like that. Granted all that took less then 1 hour so I had the rest of the time to look at all the vendors (as I stated before was busy but not overly crowded) so I had plenty of area to walk and shop. I will definitely be back a d just loved everything. Also some celebrities would just walk around and just talk.

  • Overpriced and not a COMIC con

by Cranky Thundercat on 4/25/25Rating: 2 out of 5

This seemed more like a celebrity fanfest than an actual COMICbook convention. I agree with the other reviews about lack of organization on Saturday. There was a huge crowd just packed in the lobby area with no one knowing what line to stand in. My family and I had a 3-day pass and stayed at the hotel there (which is the way to go; no worries about parking and you just retire to your room in the same building afterward). Friday seemed like the best time to attend as there were no crowds at all and no lines. We also went to Spacecon a couple weekends later and that setup was waaaay better. Granted, it was at a different venue, but the layout, organization, and guest appearances were absolutely superior the Big Texas in every way.

  • 1st Timer

by Anna on 10/21/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Had a nice time. Little confusing about where to go, how to find the area, and where or if we were supposed to get tickets. All fell into place. Glad we went. Can't wait to go next year.

  • Lines and Lack of Direction

by VP on 10/20/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

The event was great, lots of cool things to look at and neat costumes everywhere. The problem I had was the lack of direction in the Fan Experience area. I think a large sign indicating the process would have been very helpful. So many people (my party included) showed up for photos and had no clue where to go. When you approached the area, there was a “holding pen” to the left, which appeared to be some kind of line. But then there were actual lines to the right and winding around behind the holding pen. I was told by an attendant that I should go get in line asap because people were already lining up for sessions two hours later. No signs telling people where to go. I watched the poor event attendant there answer the same questions SO MANY times. Then, once you got into a line for whatever photo session you had, there was no room between the lines. I thought a larger venue would have helped, but I’m sure that someone with experience in these events could find a better way to do the celebrity photos in the same place. Also in the fan experience area, the gentlemen calling up the sessions was only doing a “last call” for most of the groups. There wasn’t actually a first or second call, but then it’s the last one? Other than the lack of direction and space, and the confusion on session calls, I had a good time. Thanks!

  • Average Con - needs better organization

by TXcon7777 on 10/18/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

Picking up VIP passes, required us to wait in a long line. There should be a separate entrance for VIP’s. There was no obvious signage for where to go for VIP passes, volunteers seemed confused as to where we should go. Celebrity lines had extremely small and way to narrow taped lines.

  • Big Texas Comicon 2024

by Patsy on 10/17/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

It was really great being at the Comicon this year. Took a lot of pictures of Cosplayers and met a few comic artists. My daughter enjoyed her time there too.

  • Almost over the top

by Chip on 10/17/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

Overall very fun. Even though I was there for certain guests, I was disappointed there were not very many comic dealers. This is a Comic Con. Tons of manga and even some sports related stuff. Saw candles for sale. Lines for certain celebs were long if you purchased the autograph ticket. I waited a long time for Sean Astin. I purchased the Fan Experience for Elijah Wood and was in the vip line for his autograph. That was nice. I know for next time I need to save up for the vip experience so any auto I want to get I'm in the vip line and won't wait as long. Parking for me was great since I got there early. Also if the comic con starts at 10 am, let people in at 10 am. Don't start giving speeches. That took 20 minutes and then you had to let the HUGE line in. Start the speeches at 9:30 to be done by 9:50 and then let people in at 10 am who already are anticipating getting in. Also all vendors need to take cash. Ran into one that was card only. Also the lines for some celebs were very close together. With the wait I had for Sean Astin, it was difficult to stay. Tired feet, no airflow and sometimes got lightheaded. Rent more space next time so the lines aren't so tight. Also if I left the room the Comic Con was in, but didn't leave the building I still had to have my bag checked again, even though it was checked before. More waiting and a waste of time.

  • Not enough helpful direction

by TZed on 10/16/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

There was a lack of direction finding the correct entrance on Saturday, our second day. Which was different than on Friday. There were plenty of volunteers in the interior of the building, but not enough outside in my opinion. Or signage!

  • Not worth the time or money

by Bored Dad on 10/16/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

Getting in took forever. Had a three day pass and had to wait in line for a wrist band every day? Not the best variety of guests. Food and drink options poor snd expensive even for a con. Where were the panels even held? Signage and directions non existent. Whole experience was mid. Should have saved my money for more stuff at the Space Con coming up next week.

Everyone was nice and it was just overall a fun experience

  • Nearly great!

by Shane on 10/16/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

Good experience. For it to be great. Have more room for the photo op experiences as well as monitoring of the lines. While waiting in line… We were in group 3 of nearly 6 groups for Charlie Hunman Session A. While waiting we saw multiple people were not placed in a group line and were allowed to go to the line for the photo op. People were civil about it but it could get ugly if not addressed. Last but not least… There was no WIFI for guests. Cell service was spotty at best. Having WIFI would significantly improve the overall experience. This review goes from 4 to 5 stars if these items are addressed.

  • Disappointing....

Basically a vendor mall. Little other than the usual merch.

  • BSC

by Black Spade Collectibles on 10/15/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Not only did Big Texas Con allowed me to meet someone I grew up with (Ron Pearlman)… but I also got to see other wonderful people who can truly appreciate worlds and characters that bring joy to our lives! It was a pleasure and we will definitely see you there again!

  • Big tex

by debts on 10/15/24Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

The con was alright, though definitely suffered from some organizational issues, the most major one that everyone experienced was the fact that when one stepped out even once outside of the con, not even necessarily outside of the building, when you went back in, you’d have to get your bags rechecked EVERY SINGLE TIME, which was so absurd even the people checking the bags acknowledged this. I understand safety being a big issue, but I feel that once one gets their bags checked the first time, it’s useless to get it checked again, and only ruins the experience of the convention as a whole, slowing everything down. The other issue is just that there was so many people at the convention, making it incredibly crowded, and next year could use with more floor space rented out.
