Very well organized and loads of fun

by Effxcts on 10/11/23Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San Antonio

The Big Texas Comicon not only delivered amazing celebrity guest appearances, they were also very well organized. Their photo op sessions were posted on their website and throughout the venue, as well as listed in a pamphlet handed out at check in. Photo op lines were organized by times, row line up numbers, and admission pass tier. Only thing that could have made it better would be wider rows to stand in, as you kinda had to stand up straight to not rub up against the person beside you. They made microphone announcements 15 minutes prior to each panel and always listed the room number to go to, which also had signs posted throughout the venue. They also announced last calls for photo ops numerous times to ensure everyone had an opportunity to get their photo taken, which they'd pre-paid for. There were numerous vendors with so many different products. Few of the vendors were selling similar products, but with variations, so you did need to shop around a bit before making a decision to ensure you got something you loved at the best price. But there were only a few overlaps with the exact same product at multiple places (funko pops were the exception to this, though some vendors had discontinued or signed versions that others didn't have). Which was nice because that meant the variety of items at the vendors was vast and the variations on similar products was also large. The staff and vendors were all friendly and very welcoming. However, there is one thing to note on the amount of staff. Though there were plenty of staff located throughout the venue to guide you and answer questions, it did seem some areas with fixed staff position were lacking people. For example, the photo op pickup table. 1 guy sorting all of the prints made it so he couldn't stop moving. If he was too slow to put a photo on top of the printer, attendees would just reach over and grab their photo on their own, which I'm sure isn't exactly what the venue hosts wanted. If someone wanted to buy protective sheets for their photos, he'd have to make that sale and stop getting the photos out of the printers. The lady working the laptop to process digital prints for those that purchased it was also in need of help, as she had a long line forming. 1 more person at each position to help that station would have been useful for the staff, and to cut down the lines. And maybe 1 more person working the photo op line, as many times people stepped out of their rows and the lines got slopy, but the staff didn't see because the 1 person had his back to the line the majority of the time. Cell reception in that venue is always horrible. The vendors and staff had their own private wifi to use through the convention organizers, in order to ensure communication and payment processing, but maybe guest wifi for the attendees would be nice. If possible. Many times I wanted to look something up like a graphic to customize a product a vendor was going to make for me, or text a friend the photo I just took with my favorite celebrity, but I wasn't able to, due to no cell service. I also wasn't able to follow any of the vendors Instagrams or check out their social media at the time, and that is more of a do it now thing because once you get home, you either forget or just don't end up following them. It's more of a convenience for us in attendance, but would be a super nice thing to have in the future. One other note. In order to attend the panel, you had to leave the arena. And even though you have a wristband, in order to get back in, you have to go through bag check all over again. After each panel broke, people would immediately want to go back into the event arena, which formed a massive line at bag check. While I understand the need to check bags again for safety, we never left the convention center. And then had to go through the exact same line new attendees were going through. Maybe having a separate bag check area for those with wristbands could help with those trying to reenter, to help the lines. It was agrivating to have to wait so long to get back in, and imagine if you had a photo op schedule coming up. I could be frustrating to those having just showed up going in for the first time right as a panel group breaks, and getting caught in that mess. Overall, it was a very smooth experience for me, from checking, to getting my wristband, to ensuring I knew what event was starting, where to go, and how much time was left. Ample friendly and welcoming roaming staff throughout the venue and clear guidelines and directions posted everywhere. There was even food available for purchase inside the venue, which was nice because I didn't have to leave to eat. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and was extremely happy with the celebrity guests they brought in. They had some top quality celebs from many genres and something for everyone. I do plan to attend again in the future, especially if they bring in celebs that I'm interested in seeing/meeting.

    Texas Con

by Future on 10/11/23Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - San Antonio

It was really great 👍, better than I expected and very organized. Nice staff and perfect venue for the time of year. Plenty of vendors and local groups. More swag would have made it better.

Felt lame this year wasn’t a lot of people dressed up. And my photo op person canceled and I could not cancel my whole day cause I bought the tickets no refunds. My kid cried for 2 days due to her photo op, so this was probly my last year going
