Ben Harper

The music was just as expected...great blues....however the venue was beyond fabulous. Sorry to hear the decision to discontinue concerts here..a shame...
this seemed largely the Charlie Musselwhite concert with the focus on blues which was fine but not what we were expecting. during the encore Ben did a rant about some guy in the front row yelling suggestions at him the whole concert. really a buzz kil and negative way to end the eveningl. seemed like Ben didn't want to be there and perhaps spent an hour on stage. . Never will waste money on anything with Ben Harper's name on it again. Maryhill is a great venue but sadly they are giving up holding concerts. it was a sorry end to a long run of great events at maryhill.
Charlie Muslewhite was terrific! Ben Harper needs to leave his "political views"at the door.. We paid for good music not his political emotional rant.
Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite put on a good show at Chateau Ste. Michelle. We enjoyed the music and the between song talks. Charlie did not play or sing as much as expected. He was more like another band member than a co-bill. The sound guy had his hands full with Ben backing off the mic every now and again. It was hard to hear when he did that. We missed a lot of the tambourine story. Perhaps give Ben a head set. The winery is a nice venue. The people in the festival seating set up tables and a spread for themselves and their friends. That makes it challenging to find a place to sit. Perhaps charge people with extra furniture for two more seats.
It was a great show. I had always heard that he was a great performer, and it really is true . The band was tight and Musselwhite was a fantastic addition. Really a band that is rooted in the blues.
I'm not going to say that Ben Harper isn't popular because he is...the show was sold-out. But I don't understand why he isn't MORE popular than he is! And I'm just as guilty as anyone...I'm not sure if I would have gone to this show if it weren't for Charlie Musselwhite performing with Harper. I might have, but Musselwhite tipped it from a "maybe" to "I'm definitely going." And oh how glad I am to have been there. The music was simply amazing. Can Harper go off on a political tangent? Yeah, but that's who he is. If you don't like it or agree with it, tune it out for 30 seconds. But that is who the guy is. And we all know how good Musselwhite is. We all know how good Ben Harper is. But the band...the guitar player and drummer were phenomenal. And Ben Harper is such a classy guy...he keeps it all together. He shares the stage. He shares stories. He shares the applause. You can tell that these guys really like each other, respect each other. And it shows in how tight the entire performance was. It was a very special show. If Harper/Musselwhite come to your area, do not hesitate...GO. You will not regret it...it was just that good.
The venue is wonderful and the audience is always appreciative and adoring when the music is richly authentic. Charlie Musselwhite was simply wonderful and Harper and the band was brilliant.
The show had great energy and a wonderful variety of style and content. Our only complaint with the concert was the loudness of the sound system. At times the high frequency sounds were so loud as to be distorted and my wife and I were forced to cover our ears as they hurt. As we left and drove home we found we had trouble hearing each other speaking in the car. Chateau St. Michelle should be aware of the risks of damaging he hearing of their clients.
Great show! My only regret is not arriving early enough to be as close and I wanted and away from those wanting to socialize during the show. Ben & Charlie and company were flawless. Closing with When the Levee Breaks was epic.
Both Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite are incredible performers, together they just soared. Wonderful concert, would recommend these guys to everyone.
Ben Harper divides his audience by spending waaaay too much time talking about his political views. I paid money to hear him sing and play. Too bad Charlie is associated with him.
He played for about 45 minutes and then people started leaving. Half the place was cleared out after an hour. Ben played a few more songs after people left then it was over. Horrible show and way too short. So disappointed. The only good thing about the show was the venue.
I have seen both musicians an their bands before at separate times and they were excellent. Together on the same stage was much less enjoyable. They played more music from other artists than their own (or so it seemed). As a show I rate this very low. Sorry guys, not worth the money.
Hate when Ben gets a new band behind him. He plays all the new album they are promoting and nothing of what Ben is known for. Give us one classic Ben song. Please!!!!
Great show, fine security and parking the sound mix was over all good but became harsh during vocals certain guitars
These two performers are amazing on their own. Together they take blues to a whole new level!
Ben Harper just has that voice that cannot be replicated. Live music under the stars is the best. Great backdrop for his soulful sound.
