Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.
He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.
An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

Ben Folds still put on a great show even with mike problems and a piano that went out of tune in the middle of the set.
Ben's concert @ UPAC was amazing... just him and the piano, but you'd think that he had a whole band with everything he gets out of one (in this case beat up and malfunctioning) piano. A great blend of old favorites and new stuff- including some yet-to-be-released, which is always great. He absolutely tore the place up... and that piano will never be the same. A great musician, a great sense of humor, a brilliant performer!
I saw Ben in April with the band and now as a solo act. Both were remarkable performances. The solo act was intimate as he told stories to the audience about the different songs. And he still incorporated audience participation. He is an amazing musician and again does not dissapoint his loyal fans! His opening act Kate Miller-Heidke was an awesome choice.
I was so in awe of his talent of the piano. Even though the keys weren't working correctly, he still played on, and it sounded amazing. I loved that he played older songs, like Annie Waits, Gone, and Army. When he had the audience sing the background vocals of Smoke, the harmony was astounding. I liked being a part of it. All in all, it was pretty much one of the greatest concerts I've been to.
Ben Folds put on a great show, despite the piano that UPAC supplied (which sucked!). But he was a good sport about the whole thing and the concert was great. He even brought back his opening act for a song together.
Ben Folds has evolved into one of the best live shows around. Why he hasn't hit with a mega-hit at least once is beyond me. He has mastered the art of bashing the heck out of the piano keys, but can evoke Elton John melodies at the drop of a hat. This concert, at the UPAC in Kingston, NY, was a billed as a solo acoustic, and kept it's promise. Ben simply walked into our living rooms for the evening and deciced to play as many songs as he could over a 2-plus hour time period. His opening act was also a welcome surprise. Kate Miller-Heidke (hope I spelled it correctly) has an incredible voice, and her lyrics downright funny (I want you to touch my front bottom). The FACEBOOK Song was the cutest, too bad it's not on her CD, at least as an extra at the end.
Always funny.
This was my both my first Ben Folds concert and my first concert at the pageant. I loved every minute!
Ben Folds is great, plain and simple. To me, the fact that he was alone made it even greater. Surprisingly, he fit an incredible amount of songs into a 1 1/2 hour time period. I know he really is well known for being and amiable rock star, but he really got involved with the crowd and made us all a part of the concert.
Surprisingly talented opening act (Kate Miller-Heidke) as well as a great set-list by Ben Folds. Ben always puts on a great show. If you ever get the chance to see him, take advantage of it - just don't take my ticket!
The venue was incredible...it did not seem like there was a bad seat in the house. Furthermore, Ben's opening act (Kate Miller-Heidke) was unbelievable. I reccomend her CD to anyone. Ben's set was organic...he simply went off the vibes he was feeling. Truly an unforgetable performance. The reason I only gave the concert 4 stars was because the crowd was quite different from most Ben Folds concerts I have attended. They were quiet and not really engaged until the end. It was quite an odd experience at a concert where, normally, Ben gets everyone involved.
I loved that Ben went old school. Back to the old days of just him and his piano. I have seen him so many times dating back to the Ben Folds 5 days and just love these kind of shows where he just wants to rock out. The venue was great and the opening act of Kate Miller-Heidke blew me away! She gained a new fan in me last night!
When Folds first started to play I was somewhat disappointed to see it was only Ben and no band included. But I quickly learned Ben Folds can easily pull off a show that's still just as loud and inspirationas as his recorded albums. He even debuted a new song, "Belinda" lyrics by Nick Hornsby and music by himself. I was pleased to hear three a few song I have never heard before. The most impressive part of the show was how well Folds can get a crowd involved and make everyone have a great time. The auditorium's lighting would often clue in the audience and Ben would look to the crowd whenever we were to sing with him. It was an amazing show to be my first professional concert, and I am surely attending the next show closest to me.
I have been a fan of Ben Folds for years. I remember when I was young picking up Ben Folds Five: Whatever and Ever Amen. I was hooked. Everytime Ben has come to St Louis I would hold off on buying tickets and it would sell out... this time around I wasn't going to miss it! When Ben came out and sat down at his piano I was waiting for the band to come from behind the curtain, I realized it wasn't going to happen. As he broke into songs like "Annie Waits" I really was dissapointed that there was no backup insturments. At the point of the night when he played three songs from his new album, I was upset. Almost ready to leave. I stuck around and became very much impressed with his interaction with the crowd and how he put everything he got into that piano. The crowd participation brought people on their feet and really turned this classic act into a rock show. If you have been a folds fan for years and think a man and his piano is not for you, stay at home. But if you appreciate different takes of your favorite Folds and Folds Five classics, prepare to be impressed. This is a show that will remain in my memory as the most unexpected performance, go and check it out.
Amazing!! An incredible display of talent! Kate Miller-Heidke was also incredibly amazing as the opener.
the show started with an incredible opening act Kate Miller-Heidke(quiet possibly the best opening act EVER!!!) Then Ben Folds came and "wowed" the crowed with his talent!! The Pageant is one of the greatest venues I've ever been to (LA, Denver, Vegas and the STL).
That was on of the most excellent concerts I have ever been to.
Ben Folds definitely gives you a great show! He talked to the audience a lot.
Ben Folds shows never disappoint and this show was no exception. My husband and I try to go to all of his concerts in Kansas City and St. Louis. This was my second time seeing him at the Pageant. The first was right after "Way to Normal" was released. This time, with the new album right around the corner, we were lucky to hear some of the new songs. I was certainly curious to find out how songs that Ben had not written himself would come out, but he has tackled the challenge perfectly. Picking Nick Hornsby to write lyrics for him was a great idea. I've read almost all of Hornsby's books and he's amazing. The combination of Folds and Hornsby is fabulous! If you have the opportunity to catch Ben solo this fall, DO IT!
If you've ever seen Ben you understand, if not, join the magic...
