About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • It was a night well spent :-)

by HilDubs on 11/10/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

Even though I only knew the older stuff that he played, the show was awesome!! He is a great showman and an amazing pianist. The opening act (Kate Miller-Heidke) was great too!!

  • Ben continues to blow us away!

by Anonymous on 11/5/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds performance at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas was absolutely phenomenal! The venue was perfect for his characteristic and charming chit-chat with the audience. We have seen him in arenas and small clubs and he never fails to entertain. There was a point in the show where he brought out the opening act to help him perform a couple songs and he busted out his camera to take hilarious pictures of things that didn't really happen. Tons of fun all around! Thanks Ben and Thank you Liberty Hall!

I see at least two bands a month on an average from Buckethead to Keller Williams to Dr Dog. Old acts and new, if you have not seen Ben Folds, What are you waiting for? I saw him three times this year and this was the Veranda! I will not miss a show if he is within a two hour drive. PURE GENIUS, PURE FUN!!!!!!!! Can't wait for his next show. friendnben

  • Embarrassing start, but excellent thereafter

by TheRatingSwiss on 10/30/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 4 out of 5

After an embarrassing start Ben started to touch the croud and rock. Excellent event, although I had to get familiar with just a piano and a voice.

  • Ben gave an all-out performance

by FanofFolds on 10/29/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

From start to finish nobody brings more energy, interacts more with the crowd, and plays as much music as this guy. I've been to a lot of concerts and seen some great artists. Ben is the consummate entertainer. His piano skills are unparalleled. He brings humor and authenticity. There is nothing cookie-cutter about his performances. You know when you are there you are getting a dynamic and unique performance. No artist is more worth the cost of admission than this guy.

  • Ben was AMAZING!

    by sconn8 on 10/27/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

I had iffy expectations because a friends saw him last time he was in Lawrence, and said Ben didn't seem into it at all. But he was AMAZING last night!! That same friends was at this show as well, and said it was a "great show!" It takes a lot for an artist to keep an audience entertained when it's just him and his piano, but he did it with ease. He involved the audience in his performance as I have heard he usually does. It was unforgettable.

  • WOW!

    by Aubrie1127 on 10/27/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first Ben Folds concert and I. LOVED. IT!!!! He is SPECTACULAR LIVE! I love it when he just starts singing completely random lyrics and all the crowd involvement he puts into his concerts. Ben is also very fan-friendly. I had him autograph 2 things AND take a photo. I don't think a lot of others would be that polite. I really can't wait to see him again!!! =] =] =] His new demo songs with Nick Hornby's lyrics were awesome, too!!! - Picture Window, Levi Johnston's Blues, and Belinda!

  • Ben never disappoints

by Anonymous on 10/27/09Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

This show was great. It had a more familiar and friendly feel than some of his shows I've seen. He seems to really enjoy Lawrence and reminisced about the days he played there when he was a nobody. The crowd knew just about every song he played, and was able to flawlessly pull of the multiple singing parts for "Not the Same" without Ben's instruction. I loved every minute of it. The opening band (Kate Miller-Heidke) was amazing, and her assistance on female vocals in Ben's "You Don't Know Me" was lots of fun to watch. All around amazing show, as usual for Ben Folds.

  • Ben Folds never disappoints me. Ever.

I've seen Ben Folds several times before in all types of venues and he never fails to amaze me. He plays songs from all albums. My mother had never heard of Ben Folds a week before the show and she loved it so much. He is so good with spontaneously being brilliant, even when there are technical difficulties. Everyone should see him live!!!

It was a dream come true, a magical musical adventure.

  • Great performer- lousy venue.

by Anonymous on 10/12/09UPAC - The Broadway Theater - KingstonRating: 4 out of 5

Ben folds was AMAZING. The piano he was forced to play was out of tune with broken keys. It is disrespectful to an artist you have booked to force him to play a piece of garbage- an excuse for a piano. Saw the same show at the Egg in Albany two nights before this show and it was great. Not going to this venue again.

  • Ben Folds is Amazing... UPAC center stinks!

Ben Folds is just amazing at everything he does!!!

  • Wow...

    by musicfanatic1 on 10/12/09UPAC - The Broadway Theater - KingstonRating: 5 out of 5

What a dynamic performer. He can really put ona show and keep people entertained. It was so enjoyable as a fellow piano player to see him play live and solo acoustically. Even though there were problems with the piano they provided him, he took it so well and just played right through. Yeah Ben Folds!!

  • I love Ben Folds!!!!

    by asul0816 on 10/12/09UPAC - The Broadway Theater - KingstonRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds is an amazing entertainer. I especially liked when he played one of his songs on a "box" because the microphone broke. I would love to see him in concert several more times.

  • Awesome show

  • Ben was awesome!

by Eastwing on 10/11/09UPAC - The Broadway Theater - KingstonRating: 5 out of 5

What a great solo show!Ben is as good alone as he is with backup, the way he includes the audience in the show just adds to the performance-Ben got two fully deserved standing ovations-awesome!

  • Ben was outstanding...

by metsmom on 10/11/09UPAC - The Broadway Theater - KingstonRating: 5 out of 5

As usual, Ben Folds was outstanding as was Kate Miller-Heidke. The only downside was the piano at UPAC. Ben said it was atrocious(in more graphic terms). UPAC (venue) should be ashamed!!!
