About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • Ben Folds is an awesome performer!

    by schen7185 on 4/13/10Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first Ben Folds concert and I hope it's not my last! He performed Time which he said he doesn't think he's done live before. He even included his opening act for "You Don't Know Me" and the female singer (forget her name, from Brisbane, crazy ass voice) did a great job with him. I think his sarcastic humor (Free Coffee), playfulness (randomly decided to bust out on drums- didn't even know he played, made up songs), and ingenuity (had audience sing 3 part harmony to "Not the Same") really shone live onstage, even more so than in his recorded music. Really I won't forget what an amazing time I had! Thanks Ben <3

  • Ben is an amazing talent. AMAZING!

Saw both the Town Hall show on 4/13 and the Fri night show in NJ...while Friday's show was the better of the two (Ben just had more energy and played tighter), I was still blown away again at the show in NYC. Never knew that Ben can play drums---and REALLY play! He's obviously having a great time even if he is "All by himself" on this tour, and it's worth every penny every time.

  • Great concert!

Great concert! I'm a big fan of Big Folds music, he really knows how to rock the piano. And apparently the drums as well...which he played for a song. Not only a great musician, but a great entertainer...knows how to energize the audience. I'll definitely get a ticket for his show the next time he's in town.

Ben Folds always delivers a great live performance. I've seen him several times and he never disappoints! He previewed his new album coming out as well. If you like his music at all, you will love one of his shows!

  • Absolutely Amazing

This was my first time seeing Ben Folds (and my fiancé's 6th or 7th time), and the show was absolutely tremendous. Probably the best concert I've ever seen. The opening act, Kate Miller-Heidke was extraordinarily talented and funny. Ben is a musical genius. I loved all of the funny stories he told and how much he interacted with the crowd. I would definitely see him again.

I've wanted to see Ben Folds live for quite some time and I'm happy my first experience was just Ben and his piano at the Hershey Theatre. The venue was terrific; the theatre has been renovated recently to its former majestic beauty. Ben Folds, of course, was highly recommended to me by everyone who has had the opportunity to see him in the past and he certainly did not disappoint. Humorous, and always engaging, he took the stage and quickly started churning out the songs. The setlist was an eclectic montage of songs from throughout his career. My favorite moment would have to be when he called what appeared to be a teenage girl to the stage to duet in "Bitches Ain't Shit". My friend who accompanied me to the show was not familiar with Ben Folds outside of "Brick" and "Landed" and she said she loved the show. All in all, it was one of the best shows I've seen in quite some time and I definitely will be seeing him again in the future.

One word. Epic. It wasn't one of those concerts that you have to have every song memorized to enjoy. It was not only entertaining but there was also interaction with the audience. The tickets were a birthday present for my fiance and he thought it was one of the best concerts he's ever been to.

Ben Folds was, of course, amazing. A true master at work. A pure joy to watch...he truly energised the audience. And we loved Kate Miller-Heidke too. It's always a wonderful bonus when the support act is so amazing.

Ben Folds. With a piano. And a drumkit. What more need be said?

This is the third time I have seen Ben Folds solo with no band. Each time was great, but he has learned to really keep the crowd motivated with interaction. A great show from a very talented musician.

Ben Folds was great!! Really enjoyed the venue and the fact that he made up songs as he went along. Lots of crowd participation.

This was the first Ben folds show I've ever seen and it was truly kick-ass! It was incredible! Keep up the good work, Ben!

  • Great night!

    by Hipster724 on 4/13/10Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I would totally recommend seeing Ben Folds (or any artist for that matter) at The Town Hall. The venue is small and intimate allowing for an amazing experience. The opening a act-Kate Miller-Heidke was incredible! I've never heard of her before so now I have someone new to add to my IPod. 5 star night!

  • Ben Folds Live and Fighting!

by MLNY on 4/13/10Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great, great and great concert. Ben reminded us once again that all he needs is himself and having a extra instrument or two lying around only amplifies his performance. A true genius on the piano, not to mention the drums, who knew!

  • Awesome

    by amadeus432 on 4/13/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I thought the concert was GREAT! We enjoyed Ben Folds both as musician and entertainer. Also, his opener - Kate Miller-Heidke - was an absolute blast and very talented!!!

  • Ben Folds knows how to play the piano & the crowd.

    by martian52 on 4/12/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 4 out of 5

This was an incredibly enjoyable evening. Ben would wind us up with a rocking number and then toss in one of his softer melodies, and all with his signature wry lyrics. His interplay with the audience was excellent. There were many moments of audience participation from sing alongs, to clapping to the beat and I think most of the audience left with smiles on thier faces and tunes in their heads. I know we did!

  • Best show I have ever been too...hands down!

by kdalbs on 4/12/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds + Piano = Amazing! The Hershey Theatre was the most intimate venue I have ever been to for an artist of this magnitude. He was less then 200 feet away for $32. Seats were comfortable, seemed to not be a bad view in the house. Acoustics were incredible. He played almost all of this best music, got the audience involved as usual, and even played some songs from his upcoming album. This is the second time I have seen Ben Folds. Last time was in a gymnasium with his band and, while it was a great performance too, I don't think anything will top this anytime soon. I don't say that lightly, as I have been to 8+ Dave Matthews shows, a Coldplay concert, several Dashboard/Taking Back Sunday/The Starting Line shows.

  • Ben the Banger

by XPNmusicfan on 4/12/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 1 out of 5

He has to bang so hard on the piano keys that his fingers bled? What happened to the beautiful melodies from the CDs? The songs were barely recognizable. Granted I am much older than the average attendee, but I am an avid WXPN listener and know good music.
