About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • Ben Folds ROCKS!

by getrustygirl on 4/20/10Vic Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Fold's was AWESOME at the Vic!!! He claimed the piano was out of tune, but he played through and sounded great! Love how he chats with the crowd and makes up songs as he goes!

  • Best concert I have been to.

The way he is able to get the crowed worked up and into every song was awesome.

One of his best shows. He is very witty and a talented piano player.

  • Ben Folds was Incredible!

by solodesigns on 4/20/10Vic Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Despite the poorly tuned piano that poor Ben was given at the Vic on Monday night, he put on quite the performance! From Annie Waits to Song for the Dumped Ben was in top form. A few times he forgot the lyrics to some songs but that just added to the charm of his performance. So glad I finally got the chance to see Ben live!!!

  • ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!!

Ben couldn't have done a better job performing, entertaining, and playing the most original music!!!! Hands down, would go see again

I thought the event was quite unorganized. I didn't feel it was publicized very well and just happened to notice a poster about it in the basement by the cafeteria or I wouldn't have ever known about it. Tickets were supposed to go on sale at 10 am, they went on sale at 9 am. I couldn't find any information about parking...whether it was included in the ticket price or it would be an additional fee at the event. Everywhere I read, including the tickets themselves, said the show would start at 7:00 pm. It ended up starting at 8:00 with an opening act - never saw an opening act advertised or posted anywhere. Ben came out after 9:00 - over 2 hours after we arrived. Good, quality acts...but again, felt very uninformed as a consumer. =( Disappointed and probably won't attend an event at UD again.

  • Great Night

by MissStacey on 4/19/10University of Dayton Arena - DaytonRating: 5 out of 5

Both Ben Folds and Kate Miller-Heidke gave unforgettable performances. It was full of energy, and they are both unbelievably talented. Ben Folds brought back a lot of his old music, and played a couple new songs too. In true Ben Folds fashion, he even improved a song about Denny's. He is one of the greatest entertainers out there. Please go see this show. You will NOT regret it.

  • Ben Folds was amazing!

by Waspstar on 4/19/10University of Dayton Arena - DaytonRating: 5 out of 5

I really liked the way that he was able to improvise on piano without having the other two band members there. It was a great to really see what he's capable of. Just awesome! Also it was really cool the way he involved the audience. His fans recognize his music isn't the usual boring, 3 chorded, bad lyrical, bad voiced so called musicians crap.

  • Another great show

by dunham03 on 4/19/10University of Dayton Arena - DaytonRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds played another great show. The show was only Ben and a piano, which was fantastic. I have seen him before with his drummer and bassist, both are very talented but it was great to see just Ben. He played some classics as well as a couple new songs from the upcoming album release (Sept, 2010). Over all a great show.

  • Solid Performance...

by JohnnyAYQ on 4/19/10University of Dayton Arena - DaytonRating: 5 out of 5

Never knew much of Ben Folds until he hosted that "vocappela" competition on TV. So looked him up and liked his style. Concert was very good, he was very entertaining and engaging... the VENUE...??? ehhh... not sure I'd attend there again, the University Of Dayton Arena... College kids are SO rude, don't know how to conduct themselves as humans... and it's mainly the girls... texting during the show, talking etc... BUT, "Ben Folds" was very good!

  • Ben Folds Rocks again!

by ryguy5 on 4/19/10University of Dayton Arena - DaytonRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Ben Folds 3 times in the past 13 months and he has rocked every show! The first time I saw him was with a full band, and the second was just him and a piano. He rocked the entire set for this show including some of his famous improv songs, he played all the crowd favorites and some of his b-side show tunes. We also got a track that will be on his upcoming album. Ben Folds always gets the crowd involved in many ways with singing, yelling and at this show, actually invited a girl up on stage to sing part of a song with him. The opener for the show, Kate Miller-Heidke also rocked her set and came out for a duet with Ben for one of his songs. Overall it was another amazing Ben Folds performance.

  • Ben Folds is a musical genius!

by purplepurpleviolet on 4/18/10Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds is always entertaining. His concerts are full of funny stories and awesome music.

  • Ben Folds was great. The crowd was not.

by Blahx3 on 4/16/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 3 out of 5

Very good show by Ben Folds. The crowd, at least where we were located, was very rude. You could not hear the opening act at all due to the crowd talking loudly. When Ben took the stage it wasn't as bad but still put a damper on the show. HOB is a nice place but he needed a bigger venue.

  • Ben Folds Can't Live W/out

by FeralWaves on 4/16/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Ben Folds 12 times since the mid-90's. He is an amazing songwriter, musician, singer, showman, comedian, etc... His shows are a must for anyone who needs music in their life. Each show I have seen gets better and better. He creates an intimate atmosphere, as if you were sitting in his home studio; yet he projects his music, schemes, and wit on a large scale that you just can't live without. I've seen many concerts, and he by far is my favorite live show. Next Ben Fols show that comes your way... Don't wonder, just go!!! You life depends on it! Gotta go, my redneck past is nipping at my heels.

  • Great!

by ryanam on 4/16/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

It was great! Opening singer was meh. Some annoying kids pushed their way in front of us on the floor once Ben started. No sense of personal space, self awareness and just talked through the whole thing.

  • I'd drive another 4 hours!

    by gjc136 on 4/15/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

The five greatest things about Ben Folds 1) He rocks - every time 2) He doesn't play for the $, he plays because he loves the piano...you can tell because he's always so into the music 3) He interacts with the audience (and is hilarious) 4) He always has a classy opening act (Kate Miller Heidke kicks a**!!!) 5) He is one of the rare artists out there that doesn't have a bad song.

  • Ben Folds

by lukemarveldraw on 4/15/10Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds was great and he put on an amazing show. He was a great showman and had a good re pore with the audience .

  • He was a great entertainer!!!

by kekochin on 4/14/10Town Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I have been to his concert about 10 years ago in Tokyo, Japan. He has the same energy and lift the audience very much. I was so much impressed by his piano and his ad-hoc music was fun!! As Town Hall was not the huge space and I feel very close to Ben Folds. That was also great.

  • Sometimes you have your cake and eat it too!

by Chrisisemo on 4/14/10Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 4 out of 5

I had never heard of the opener until that night and I was blown away. They were so good that we both bought the cd. She had a great voice and he was excellent on the guitar. The stories she told were initeresting and the lyrics were great. I highly recommend you check them out. Anyway, Ben was great also. It was the first time I had seen him even though I've been listening to him for over a decade. He played for about two hours and still left me wanting more and I will definitely see him the next time he comes to the area. The only thing missing was he didn't play a few of my favorite songs but that is understandable since he's been making music for so long. If you like him at all you should make it a point to see him perform live.
