Awesome show. Ben can still murder a piano just like he did in the 90s!
soooo I am 17 and possibly the only human who can confidently say I "grew up"on Ben folds. but I got to see him in concert when he came and it was truly a dream come true. he does such an amazing job engaging the crowd and he has such a pure voice. it matches everything that you've listened to for years. I hope he never stops touring, because I hope to see him at least 400 more times. I love his music so much because he has the true talent for the piano, he knows what he is playing and at first glance people may not care for his voice but his music comes from such a whole place and it's amazing. I got to see him on the paper airplane request tour which was such a cute concept and I had so much fun! I hope he knows what his music is doing for peoplelike me!!
Phenomenal show!! Ben Folds is amazing to see live! His fingers fly across the keys so fast it’s unreal; and his voice sounds as good today as when I first saw him in 99! I especially like how he divides the show into 2 parts, with the latter being solely for requests from the audience. I hope he comes back to NOLA soon!!
My family went to see Ben Folds at the Filmore in New Orleans, and it was amazing. We have been fans since the 90's (except my teenagers who have been fans for several years). The piano sounded like two people were playing- I had no idea the instrument could do the things he made it do. Just a terrific show!
Ben Folds stripped down with just him and a piano was amazing. I have not seen many major artists perform live solo, but he certainly did and he pulled it off amazingly. Ben Folds is my generation’s piano man.
The Ben Folds Paper Airplane tour is a feat only artists at the highest level could pull off. Ben's extensive catalogue is on full display as random audience requests fly in on paper crafts. The pure audiophile will certainly note the age in Ben's voice, but the more discerning ear will hear that the songs and their usually cutting lyrics have only grown deeper roots in to the wells of human existence. It's my opinion that, as with many such singer-songwriter artists that all fans should find at least one opportunity to see them live. There's no doubt that the polished and produced recordings of Ben's music are fantastic, but to hear them in their native and intimate form brings out and displays emotions that just aren't able to be captured in the studio. This show is truly bucket-list material and I hope they continue for years to come, as these raw shows are, to steal a Fold's line, What Matters Most. Sf
I love Brick, beyond that I barely know his other music, but I knew how talented he was and he delivered. Truly impressive musician and I would highly recommend any music lover go see him for his raw ability, very cool show.
Went to the show expecting newer material and hoping for some Ben Folds 5 material. First half of the show was a nice mix, second half he took requests and played some great stuff I don’t think I’d hear. Well worth it, amazing musician.
as always, Ben played to please his audience. a good mix of ballads & pumped up classics. The paper airplane request was a great idea & fun!
45 minutes of Lyndsay Craft’s middle school performance was dreadful.
Ben Folds put on a fantastic show in Raleigh this past weekend! The venue, Martin-Marietta Center for the Performing Arts, was great-wonderful acoustics and no truly 'bad' seat in the house. During the second half of the show, Folds chose requests written on hundreds of paper airplanes that concertgoers "flew"onto the stage. 😀 Very unique and fun and his voice sounded great. As usual, his trademark humor was present, too!
Ben Folds was great. The first set, while a little short was a great start. And the paper airplane requests part was perfect. I wish it was longer, but it was definitely worth the money and time to be there. He's a great performer and the venue felt really intimate. The opening act was something else. I think there is great value in Lindsey Kraft's art and I'm genuinely happy that Ben Folds is sponsoring that. However, being surprised with a 40m one-woman confessional show isn't standard, or that pleasant. It was way too long and while I appreciate her musicality in general, she's not even close to the pianist or musician that Ben Folds is. So it really felt underwhelming. Also, the audience was a pretty solid mix of folks age 8 -> 75. Because of that, a big section of the audience was not her prime demographic. And a big portion of the audience needed to see Ben Folds before 9p so they could go to sleep :-D. If I could go back and make her set 3 songs that she had Ben Folds play piano on, that would have been totally fine and might have left me Googling more than "how long is the opening act for Ben Folds?"
Ben Folds never disappoints, and it's not only parents bringing their kids, it's the other way around too. This middle boomer has seen him 9 times, all but one with his Millennial son. The venue is magnificent, only complaint is the sub arctic temperature in the room. It was 40° outside and I was tempted to go there to warm up. Despite that, looking forward to more shows there. Will dress in layers
Attending a Ben Folds concert is always a special experience, and this show was no exception! Folds brought his signature blend of humor, talent, and warmth to the stage, filling the venue with energy and nostalgia that felt quintessentially “Ben Folds.” The venue’s intimate atmosphere was perfect, allowing fans to connect with every lyric, joke, and piano riff. Folds’ mastery of storytelling through music shone as he took us through both new hits and timeless classics, each song delivered with his unmistakable style. He effortlessly engaged the audience, often letting us sing along, turning it into a shared, unforgettable experience. For any longtime Ben Folds fan, this concert was a dream come true. Love a paper airplane concert. And he played “Kate”!
I had no idea how good a musician Ben Folds was. He is fantastic! Improvisational skills, singing, piano, percussion (with his feet) were all really impressive. I will plan on seeing more of his shows!
This was my fifth Ben Folds concert, so I’m obviously a fan. His skill at the piano, coupled with his songwriting skills are killer. And he plays that piano like a percussion instrument, which is a lot of fun. We laughed, we sang, we teared up during “Gracie”. The sound levels were perfect without earplugs, the audience around me knew how to act in a theater show. It couldn’t have been a better experience.
Ben Folds is a talented musician and I have always enjoyed his music. I was excited to see a stripped down show with just him and a piano. He started strong and vibrant and held the crowd up until the break. After the intermission he has a paper airplane request system that everone enjoyed and I myself thoought it was very cool. I did feel that as it progressed it wasnt a true rerquest system and he was playing what he wanted regardless of what the paper said, maybe -maybe not. Perhaps some of both. Not playing some certian songs definitely took away from the overall performance for me. That's very subjective I know but several people there voiced the same opinion. maybe next time Ben...
We had a great time at the From Wilmington, With Love show featuring Ben Folds! The other artists that performed were fantastic and all were there for a great cause.
The best concert experience I have ever had! Ben, his piano, storytelling...it was just the greatest way to experience an artist's music. The paper airplanes were so fun too...a new experience every show!
Ben, you're a great musician who plays great music that people love, but you need to keep your politics to yourself during your shows. I have never understood why artists think that offending a large portion of your audience is good for business or good for your career and legacy. Also, your family dynamics and the vulgarity is also something you can leave back stage for everyone's benefit. The off color content adds nothing to the show. It detracts from it immensely.
