About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • A fantastic evening

by doclobster on 10/7/25DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

An awesome melding of Ben Folds and the Grand Rapids symphony. I'm not sure how he picks which songs he uses but there was a reasonable mix of songs you would expect him to play and others a little outside your mixed tape. His anecdotes are always amusing although I think he could have shortened a couple of them and squeezed in one more some. DeVos theatre is a lovely environment for the venue. I would have bought an album from him at the end but he didn't bring enough. If this interests you, get one at the intermission rather than a5 dollar bottle of water.

  • Ben Folds with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra was fantastic

by Alex on 9/30/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I had a pretty great seat at the Atlanta Symphony Hall and had a great time seeing Ben Folds perform there. The songs translated very well to the orchestral arrangement.

  • Too political

by ABT on 9/30/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I love Ben Folds, but he talked too much and was too political.

  • Symphony: Great - Ben: Awesome - Concert: Short/Rushed

by ChrisFromKnox on 9/29/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

We traveled around 4 hours to come to this show. It was my first experience with the symphony and I was very excited to see Ben with them. I went in expecting to hear a great deal of his discography and the show started at 8:10 (scheduled for 8). They played 6 songs before announcing an intermission at around 8:50...I was a little confused but hey I am the new guy here...so let's see what happens next. Around 9ish, everyone returned to the stage and they performed another 6 songs then announced the end of the show...I was super confused now and kind of annoyed. Ben said to clap and he would come for an encore to which the audience responded and he came back for 1 additional song then left for good even tho the orchestra was still seated for a while and we all remained clapping. Eventually it was clear he wasn't coming back out and everyone got up and left. We made it out of there by 10:05...so actual play time maybe 100 minutes at best. I guess I had greater expectations for someone who has such a large and diverse discography. Side note, Ben took a bit of time to share political beliefs about current affairs and the current administration. I understand the "use your platform"mentality but in the end you risk sowing division between your own fans and that just doesn't seem to make sense to me in today's charged political climate. I would have preferred if that time would have been used playing a 14th song maybe? Seems like a better use of the time wasted on that in my humble opinion but alas...I wasn't the one with the mic. All in all it was a great short show and Ben and the orchestra were incredible!! Would I go see another one? Probably not. I can save the political observations and watch YouTube videos of the same songs at home for free without that stuff. I went there for an escape into music and not to try to solve complex political issues when I just wanted to hear some of my favorite songs. I was not alone in this sentiment either. Fellow fans felt the same way as I did and we discussed that leaving the venue together.

  • Took Forever and Ever to See Live but Amen!

by Whiz Man on 9/29/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I'm a bit bummed because we were about 20 minutes late and I'm sure we missed a couple songs. Ben puts on a great show with a little humor thrown in. He still sounds great! I got really choked up at The Luckiest which is unusual for me with a song I've heard so many times. I will see him again if possible. He has so many amazing songs that we just got a small sample during this show. He got a little political but nothing obnoxious. The orchestra was great though it does give a very different vibe from a traditional concert, for example the lights were turned all the way up the entire time. The drinks were the most ridiculously overpriced I have ever seen at any venue.

  • Great Ben Folds Show with the ASO

by BFF on 9/29/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Ben several times with the ASO and also the Philadelphia Orchestra, and this was another great show in that format. I love that his music is greatly enhanced by the contributions of the ASO and I am happy to support these talented artists doing what they do best! While I appreciate these chances to see Ben with the ASO in Atlanta, I also miss opportunities to see him play solo or with a small band. I miss the live energy of his traditional rock shows and miss hearing songs that don't translate well in the orchestra format. It would have been great to have an orchestra show on Fri. and a separate solo performance in a different setting in Atlanta the next night. I would have been happy to pay to see him play two very different shows and hear more of his amazing music.

  • Great music, odd seating set up

by Intothemystic73 on 9/24/25Tannahill's Tavern and Music Hall - Fort WorthRating: 4 out of 5

Ben Folds was FANTASTIC (as usual). I was not happy with the seating arrangement at Tannahills though. The chairs were super uncomfortable and jam packed in. There was no center aisle. We got there during the opener and there were people in our seats (2nd row center) so we thought we'd wait until she was done so as not to disturb. Since there was no space between opener and when Ben came out, we were not able to get to our seats or communicate to people that they were sitting in our seats. We would have been disturbing half the row and then everyone behind them as well. I had to go to bartender and then wait through the first 2 songs before anyone came to help us. Then we had to walk in front of stage to get into our seats while they were removing people. A center aisle would have been helpful and honestly for a show as expensive as that, I would have expected better seating arrangement from Tannahills. We were packed in like sardines. I guess it's all about the money.

  • Best one yet!

by Jamie Kay on 9/24/25Tannahill's Tavern and Music Hall - Fort WorthRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Ben Folds many times, but this one was extra special. I loved the small venue vibe at Tannahill's in the stockyards. His opening act, Lindsey Craft, was fantastic and I would love to see her again. Two thumbs up.

  • Therapeutic music for a tragic day

by Cindy on 9/13/25Orpheum Theatre Sioux City - Sioux CityRating: 5 out of 5

Ben’s sense of humor and lyrics were therapeutic on a tragic day. So proud of our Sioux City Symphony, too.

  • Great performance, TERRIBLE Venue

by Aaron on 8/19/25Rio Tinto Kennecott Stage at America First Square - South JordanRating: 2 out of 5

Ben Folds put on an amazing show (5+ stars), but this is truly one of the worst concert venues I have ever seen a show at (ZERO stars). Why you anybody construct a stage for a concert venue that sits 50 feet off a major thoroughfare and approximately 75 feet from railroad tracks where mass transit trains pass by (loudly) at regular intervals? The seats are comprised of hard plastic folding chairs set on top of an astroturf carpet, sandwiched between a Megaplex movie theater and several restaurants. Which leads me to my next question/complaint - I’m not sure sure why I paid $57 dollars per ticket, when I could’ve just bought dinner at the hamburger joint adjacent to the venue and sat on their patio and watched the whole show for the cost of a burger (as several people did). The only thing separating the “venue” from the aforementioned restaurant patio was a concrete wall that was approximately 24 inches tall. Finally - the fact that the only concessions offered are available through the baseball stadium is disappointing. It’s also ridiculous that beer is offered - again, at the stadium, but only if you’re willing to consume it in a beer garden at the back of the venue, because you can’t take the beer back to the plastic chair you paid to watch the concert from. I’m not sure why they don’t just set up a stage inside the baseball stadium, rather than this pseudo-amphitheater style experience someone thought would be a good idea. At least inside the stadium you would be dealing with last background/traffic noise. I would be genuinely surprised if they are ever able to book any worthwhile acts to perform at this venue.

  • Funny and entertaining

by Bryan on 8/12/25Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I wasn't to sure about going but the price was right and the wifey wanted to. It was very entertaining and funny I would go again.

  • Excellent show!

by Doug on 6/26/25Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time! Terrific venue! Ben was excellent and worked throughout his performance to connect with the crowd. Lindsey Kraft was very good as well as Ben's opener. Would certainly go see both of them again.

  • Ben Folds rocked the room!

by Ray D on 6/25/25Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

I own a few CDs of Ben Folds but I have never seen him Live at a concert. Being able to see him at the Bergen PAC in Englewood was perfect. The opening act (Lindsey Kraft) was entirely too long. Once Ben Folds started singing and we heard his phenomenal piano playing we all forgot about how long we waited for him to enter the stage. He rocked the room! This sold out crowd called out their favorites and many sang along with him.

  • Awesome, as always!

by Steven P. on 6/24/25Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

He has not lost a step. He was amazing, as he always is, and we will continue to go see him whenever we can. Such a great night!

  • Always worth it.

by Scott on 5/24/25Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

His shows never disappointed. He is interactive and tells lots of stories behind the music. And the combination with the Youth Orchestra was awesome. It is great to see a show from someone who cares so much about music.

  • Sound

by Stephanie on 5/22/25Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Ben Filds with Howard County Youth Orchestra was great. The sound system could have been louder in the undercover back rows.

  • Excellent

by HDH on 5/10/25CH Mayo Presentation Hall at Mayo Civic Center - RochesterRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed both Lindsey and Ben’s performances. Lots of laughs and good music.

  • Very Entertaining

by Sammy Jo on 5/10/25CH Mayo Presentation Hall at Mayo Civic Center - RochesterRating: 5 out of 5

Great music and very entertaining. Loved the stories along with the music. That man can make a piano sound like an entire band. LOVED it, even in the rather odd venue (Mayo Civic Center). Fun concert, and the crowd loved being involved.

  • best night of my life

by olive on 3/23/25Rating: 5 out of 5

OH MY GOSH when I say that I'm an insanely big fan of Ben folds, that's kind of an understatement. I'm a little bit younger, but I was raised on his songs, I kid you not there's not one I don't know. I was so excited when he came to Boise for the paper airplane request tour, and it was truly a dream come true, his talent on the piano is insane, and he even had some fun improv bits, my airplane got picked, and he played Adelaide (just for me as I like to say) I don't think that there's anyone who just kind of likes ben folds. if you know who he is, you're a die-hard fan. and that's definitely my experience. his music is impacted me for years, and getting to see him in real life was an absolute dream come true. if he comes to a city near you, I cannot recommend going enough.!!!!

  • Seats

by Loki on 3/19/25Victory Theatre - EvansvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Our Row C seats were completely obstructed by large speakers. If they’re going to place equipment in such an inconvenient location, a warning should be placed on these seats before someone spends their hard-earned money on worthless tickets. The venue did place us elsewhere but had this been a sold out event, we would have been staring at nothing the entire show.
