  • It's always great to catch some of the best!

    by meaculpa20v on 12/23/10Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

It's always great to catch some of the best musicians of our time or ANY time for that matter. The Fox theatre is gorgeous as usual. I was a little bummed they rushed through Sinister Minister and Victor didn't play the usual solo that I love so much. Other than that the songs were amazing. The Christmas selection were even better this year. Their guests, the Arash Ensemble, were simply amazing to see in person with their two note throat singing. Quite a treat :)

  • Bela at the Fox

Over the top. I've known of Bela from my old music days but never pursued his music. I decided to go and see what the music was all about. This was way over the top. I especially like the fact that they play both sets, (sorry for the opening acts but this really is the best way to see a band - Rush did the same thing). The Siberian group was a very nice surprise. Highly recommended.

  • Awesome show!

by TheDaveO on 12/22/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The show was flawless. The eclectic mix of musical styling and the technical expertise was everything one would expect from The Flecktones. The performances by Alash were hauntingly beautiful and thoroughly engaging. The meshing of cultures through music when Alash and The Flecktones played together was wonderful. I wasn't really in the holiday spirit before the show. I certainly was after!!

  • if you have a chance, GO SEE these guys!

    by stefano60 on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

on a rainy night i went to the beautiful old Orpheum theater downtown los angeles to see Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. even though i have been listening to their music for a while i had never seen them in concert before (i had the good fortune of seeing Victor at the Hollywood Bowl last year in a legendary concert with Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller). well, these guys are UNBELIEVABLE! their live show is SO entertaining! it is refreshing to see (and hear) such talent! their set was very diverse and included old material, jazz, asian music and, given the time, christmas music. now, i HATE christmas music in general, but these guys made me actually really enjoy those old tunes anyway! the show would have been phenomenal in itself, but it reached a new level when they brought on stage the Tuvan group Alash ... WOW! listening to something so unique, and then seeing how Bela & Co. managed to blend all those different influences into some great sounds was very inspiring. great show, i will definitely go back and see them any time they are in the area!

  • Bela Fleck and the Flecktones were sublime!

Fabulous as usual. I'd never seen their Holiday show and I really loved it. I truly enjoy the comedy they add to their shows and of course all of the fine music. The bands uniqueness with their instruments and music is so enjoyable. I loved their Christmas songs.

This was a concert of Master Musicians who came to celebrate Christmas with world sound of Jazz. And the bonus was being introduced to the Tuban singers from Tuba. Through in the best seats in the house, we had the best Christmas Concert ever.

  • Bela Fleck at the Orpheum in LA

by NoDozer on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible show! THis was my 3rd time to see Bela, and the best ever. Lots of holiday songs that are recognizable, at times, with lots of creative improvisation. The group from Tuva that performed with Bela and the Flecktones were totally unique and VERY talented too.

  • Performance was perfect, venue amazing!

by Wonderpup on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I bought the tickets because of the venue- Orpheum makes every performance special due to the architecture. I had no idea who Bela Fleck was, but read he did something Christmassy. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The Tuva throat singers were an added curiosity, but turned out to provide some haunting, memorable music. The band was tight, well organized and acted like they were having a good time. Came home a fan!

  • Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are virtuosos

by Anonymous on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

These guys are musicians' musicians. Fleck has been nominated in more Grammy categories than any other artist, selections, but when I boughperiod, and his body of work shows his astounding versatility and his mastery of his instruments. And Victor Wooten going straight from "Norwegian Wood" into Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite"? Unforgettable artistry. These guys can truly play anything. The minor bummer was the Xmas music t these tickets (great venue!!), I didn't realize it was a "holiday" tour to promote their latest Xmas music album. They had as special guests these great Siberian throat singers --fantastic what these guys could do with their voices and their ancient Siberian stringed instruments. Bela did 2 Vince Guaraldi tunes which pass as Xmas music because "Charlie Brown Xmas" and "Linus and Lucy" are always in the Charlie Brown Xmas specials, and those were great. But I can't be the only one who's sick to death of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas" "12 Days of Xmas," Jingle Bells, etc. Virtually all Xmas music is awful to begin with, and when it gets repeated relentlessly in every mall, supermarket, and office building for these several weeks, it's enough to make me want to wear my iPod everywhere. Bah humbug to Xmas music, even music as jazzed up as the Flecktones do it.

  • Bela Fleck and the Flecktones a MUST SEE

    by 405South on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

You really have to see these 4 musicians play to appreciate what they do. Their concert is a festival of virtuosity, but at the same time a fun evening. The guys genuinely enjoy what they are doing, while at the same time wowing their audience. Go to a show to see Victor Wooten if for no other reason, you just wont believe your eyes and ears. I had a smile on my face the entire performance.

  • Flecktones always inspirational!

by naturebassist on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Bela and his fellow artist painted beautiful picture of vibrant melodies and emotional harmonies. Every piece perfectly orchestrated. There is a reason why Bela has won more grammys in such a diverse group of catagories than anyone else. The Flecktones.... what a great Holiday concert!

  • Bela Fleck and the Flecktones were sick!

by Blainelaw on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was an absolutely extraordinary 2.5 hours of brilliant, generous, accomplished, fascinating, absorbing music. These guys can PLAY, and the addition of Alash Ensemble from southern Siberia was exceptional. There is nothing Bela can't play. And, when he solos, he never runs out of rhythmic and medlodic ideas. It's ridiculous! His bass player can do things with his instrument I've never heard before and his other sidemen were some of the best in the world. Really, really something.

  • Amazing as always

by maxbear on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen bela fleck and the Flecktones more than any other group and they always put on an excellent show. Also expect interesting guests on their tour. The only complaint I have is that they didn't play enough of their original music due to all the holiday melodies they played. While the holiday songs were cool, their original pieces were the highlight for me.

  • Happy Holiday Fun

  • Christmas jolt

    by 2tadpoles on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

We have been fans for years - since Bela was a teen! He has yet to let us down and this particular performance was truly inspired. It jolted us right into holiday season.

  • Bela and Victor bringing down the house in LA

by Slightlysonic on 12/21/10Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic night, amazing musicians - what chops!! Incredible stage presence, the guys all really felt like class-act people too. Casey the guy on fiddle was incredible too. I completely enjoyed Alash, and was skeptical prior to the show. Super fun setlist with some classics and all the rockin' holiday jams.
