Bat for Lashes in Hollywood- A Night to Remember.
by PlanetPerfecto on 9/2/09The Music Box at the Fonda - HollywoodFew vocalists out there 'truly' sound as good live as they do in recordings. Natasha Khan is one of those rare talents. She is as original as she is talented, and her energy is uniquely warm, even while delivering haunting, melancholy songs filled with a maturity beyond her years. My first viewing of a live performance by Bat for Lashes only served to confirm this opinion. The show at the Music Box @ The Fonda in Hollywood on August 31st, was apparently the last one of a month long tour- however you would not know it from the spirited performance, energy, and haunting vocals that Khan put out on stage. Simply amazing. I have little more to say, others will no doubt have better, more detailed reviews. The venue was great, although I have to say that the 6'4 tall bushy-haired blonde guy in front of me was blocking part of the show despite my best efforts to get away from him [Thanks Natasha for moving around on stage plenty so we could see you!] - The reason I bring this up is to suggest that should you purchase tickets to this venue, you may want to consider Balcony seating as I heard it was infinitely better. This certainly won't be my last Bat for Lashes concert. I'm still trying to convert friends and convince them that she is indeed "the next big thing", until that time, I will enjoy her in relative solitude and thank my lucky stars [and Big Sonic Chill on FM94.9 in San Diego] for discovering her. The Opening Act was also great, however I have to admit I have no idea who they were, nor did they seem to announce a name [that I could hear anyway]. Forgive my ignorance on this, they were very talented as well, and certainly deserve more thorough praise.
