BASTILLE IN CONCERT:

Fans lucky enough to catch Bastille on their 2013/14 world tour can count their lucky stars —as one of the fastest rising groups in British music, the band's days of performing in smaller venues are certainly numbered. Boasting good looks and a winning blend of indie rock, hip hop, and synthpop, the four chaps from London have a knack for connecting with audiences at their carousing live concerts, entering the crowd to mingle with adoring fans and pose for the occasional mid-set photo op. With a string of highly anticipated US tour dates and a Coachella appearance in 2014, Bastille are well on their way to storming the American mainstream.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Bastille formed around the solo project of singer-songwriter Dan Smith, who shares his birthday with France's historic Bastille Day. The band's 2010 debut single "Flaws" was an underground hit, leading to a 2012 deal with Virgin records that resulted in the band's 2013 debut LP Bad Blood. The album peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned six singles, including the international No. 1 "Pompeii." A reissue and remix version of the album in late 2013 drummed up anticipation for the band's 2014 world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The energy was incredible and the crowd and venue great. Dan came out into the crowd during his signature Flaws performance which was truly an experience."

"Bastille is amazing live! Dan is a true talent and mastermind! Kyle killed it on keyboard, Woody was awesome on drums, and Will rocked on the bass."

"The whole band rocked the house and performed all of their best songs off of their album Bad Blood in front of a sold out crowd who was jamming and singing along."

Wolf Gang opened up for Bastille and we were pleasantly surprised! They really got the crowd going! First time we heard of them and they were awesome! Bastille put on a top notch performance! Loved every second of it! Best part is when lead singer Dan went into the crowd to perform!!! Definitely would see again!

    Amazing Night!

by BEKD on 6/7/14Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - Columbus

Bastille and Wolf Gang were thoroughly enjoyable. Bastille played the majority of their songs from "All This Bad Blood". They even played a new song which is called, "Blame". My friend and I went to this event and had a wonderful time. Bastille is better live than on their album. They're crazy good and worth spending your money to go see. Also check out the supporting band and check them out. They set the tone for the night and they were a great opener for Bastille. Honestly, I would go see these bands again.

    Bastille at Masonic Auditorium

by GReys on 6/6/14Masonic Auditorium - Cleveland

Bastille themselves were amazing. They're quality live performers becuase they sound just enough like the recorded tracks while being able to change it up for a live feel. I only gave the event 4 stars becuase of the venue. I was on the floor 3 "rows" away but it was still a little hard to see. The stage was kind of small so there was less opportunity to squeeze into "front row". Also, security was really rude. Usually after concerts it's not unusual for fans to wait by gates but we were literally harassed by 6 different personnel. I wouldn't have been so upset if I recognized that we were doing something wrong but there were only a hand full of us standing around on the lawn by the parking gate. They were physically threatening and getting in our personal space and herding us onto the side walk. But getting back to bastille: I completely recommend seeing them live. They sound great and it was overall a fantastic show. At one point Dan will walk around in the upper section during flaws and interact with the people with further seats. He comes off a bit distant or subdued on stage (not really the right word I'm looking for, but because he's such a shy person his stage presence isn't very outgoing if that makes sense.) He's very polite I suppose. Every time he spoke it was to thank the crowd. There was none of that rock/pop star pomp is what I'm trying to say.

    Bastille was even better live!

by musicluvr12 on 6/5/14Upstate Concert Hall - Clifton Park

This was by far one of the best concerts I've been to. Both Bastille and Wolfgang had so much energy and knew how to work the crowd. The venue was intimate enough to allow a real connection between the band and audience.

This concert was great! Fortunately the weather was beautiful, so being outside was a nice treat compared to indoor concerts I've been too! I also thought it was cool that the lead singer walked around the venue during one of the songs and interacted with many audience members! I hope Bastille comes back to the Burgh soon!!!

Bastille was the best concert I've been to!

by KL22 on 6/5/14Upstate Concert Hall - Clifton Park

I have been to a large number of concert in my lifetime, but Bastille was by the best. The band was incredible live, and had an amazing set list of old and new songs. They interacted with the crowd and seemed very humble. Dan even came out and walked through the crowd while singing. I was very impressed with their performance and would see them again in a heartbeat!

I love Bastille more than ever!!

by Armybrat2105 on 6/5/14Upstate Concert Hall - Clifton Park

I love Bastille! They are by far my favorite band, and seeing them live was a dream come true. True, the venue was hot and squishy, but it was well worth it. They are great live and I would go see them again in a heart beat. The opener, Wolf Gang, was really great too! I only knew like 2 of their songs, but I defiantly will check out more of their stuff. Overall, a fantastic experience!

    Good thing Bastille is amazing.

by MaggieHashtag on 6/5/14Upstate Concert Hall - Clifton Park

This is my second Bastille concert (second of three this year) and They always deliver. They were even better than I remember! Dan, Kyle, Woody, and Willy are so incredibly talented! I'm pretty sure that was their third show in a row too so I'm absolutely blown away with the talent and overall sound. It's clear they have a ton of fun performing. I brought a friend who had never heard anything other than Pompeii and she was blown away as well. She told me, "I normally don't like seeing bands I don't know--it's no fun, but hot damn Bastille was amazeballs." The venue, however, was nasty. I couldn't see, their sound system was poop, and there was not enough room to accommodate the crowd they allowed in. The staff was horrible too. I went to go use the ladies room and they yelled at me for trying to sneak to the back to meet the band. They just kept yelling at everyone. The first concert I went to (Royale in Boston--check it out) was better suited for a band and the crowd was more civil. Overall, you can't go wrong with Bastille. They're worth a crappy venue.

    Best concert ever

    by Sammy0601 on 6/4/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Now I have been to maaaannnyyyy concerts and none have ever been like this. Stage AE is one of my most favorite venues to see a show at. They have the best staff, great help, and they always have great performers. Their opening act, Wolf Gang, were so amazing and they got the crowd involved and just put on a great show. Then Bastille came on and it got even more perfect (if possible). Everyone was so nice and there was no pushing at all. I waited in line for about 7 hours and I was the 91st person in line and I somehow still got front row which made everything so much better.

Bastille and Wolf Gang: fun and recommended!

    by YoBro2014 on 6/4/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

I had a great time at the Bastille concert, with Wolf Gang as the opener. Both music groups totally rock. I'm just awestruck at how great a singers and musicians are in both groups. I would have been very content paying separately for both groups, but I was happy to see them at the same time. While I enjoy both groups music, I didn't know the majority of their work. Obviously they are well-known among the 20 year olds as they made up the super majority in the audience. I'm in my mid-30s, and I like to think that I'm in the in crowd when it comes to music. Bastille and Wolf Gang are a bit off my radar aside from the few popular hits on the radio. None-the-less I highly recommend seeing them perform live as you will have a lot of fun. While I would have given 5 stars, I only gave 4 to the fact that the AE Stage only let the audience in some time after the time the concert was to start. Then it was something between 1 to 2 hours before the concert would start. I suspect that they wanted it to get dark enough for the light show that goes with the Bastille concert, but I would have liked to have been in the "know." I guess I don't attend enough live concerts like this to be aware of these late starts, but it's rather disingenuous to claim that a concert starts at a certain time but actually starts 1 to 2 hours later.

    WOW!

by Megoodles on 6/4/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

I attended with my boyfriend, and we both had an amazing time! The line to get in was long, but went by quickly and was very organized. Although the food selection was lacking, the beverage selection was nice, and we enjoyed eating together on the grass. We loved the outdoor theater! The opening act Wolfgang were very talented and charismatic, as were Bastille. Wasn't too crowded either, so we had room to move. Definitely an enjoyable experience. The only downside was the merchandise table was EXTREMELY unorganized and people were very pushy. Managed to get a shirt though and make it home before midnight. Overall, pretty fun night!

    Amazing!!

by Anonymous on 6/4/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

This was the first concert I've ever attended, but it was a great experience! The crowd was hyped and the vibes were great. After going to the concert, I realized how little Bastille manipulates his voice through auto tune, etc. The opening act was good, and their music is pretty cool, but they didn't have much energy and didn't really amp up the crowd.

It was so fun!! My friend and I are ones that tend to jam out at concerts and we totally did that at Bastille. It was so cool that Dan walked around!!!! We had an amazing time.

    Great Show

    by JAK3R on 6/4/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Awesome show. Wolf Gang opened for them and they were a really good band as well. Bastille put on a very good show, looked like they were having some technical difficulties with earpieces, but didn't take much away from the show much at all. I though they could have been slightly more interactive/sincere addressing the crowd between songs, but not horrible in that regard. All in all, definitely a worthwhile show!
