  • Still Have It

by ladiesfan on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Just saw BNL in concert for the 7th time and despite the loss of Steven Page they still have it! A little mellower than concerts past, but it was great to see all the guys getting a bigger piece of the performance pie. Jim and Kevin finally got to be front and center for their own songs and even Tyler got his moment in the spotlight. I was afraid the concert would focus solely on their new material but they offered up quite a few of the old favorites which got the crowd on their feet. Ed is right at home as the ring master but he never hogs the spotlight. They even brought out their opening act, Serena Ryder, to join them in a number. She fit in like one of the gang and it was nice to hear a lady's voice mixed in with the Ladies. Fabulous night!

  • Barenaked Ladies rock Minneapolis AND St Paul

    by niffer28 on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Barenaked Ladies brought their "All in Good Time" tour to the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. It's a nice venue with good sight lines and excellent acoustics, even in the upper nosebleed section where we were. This was my first BNL show, and while I regret never seeing them with Steven Page, they still put on one fine performance. I had read a comment from one person who felt the new CD is not as cohesive as their earlier works. I think that is an interesting observation, but when you see them in a live performance, it doesn't seem to lack cohesion; rather, it seems like four very talented and versatile musicians who each get a chance to shine and appear to be enjoying it a lot.

Seats were great. BNL was very entertaining! Venue was small enough to feel like you had good seats wherever you sat.

  • BNL was a Blast!

    by mremick1289 on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The new Barenaked Ladies did not disappoint. While it was different not seeing Steven Page with them - the 4 performed fabulously. They are great musicians, and had fun with the audience. It was nice seeing them in a smaller setting than the Excel Center (I have seen them there twice). As always, they put on a great show, and the new Album is great as well. I brought 2 first timers, and both cannot wait to see them again.

  • Fantastic Four!!!

by Katincali on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

A Barenaked Ladies concert will never disappoint! This was a fabulous show, if anyone thought they might be done after Steven Page's departure was absolutely wrong. This was a better show than their last visit to Mpls with Page in the group. They have shown that they are better than ever!

  • BNL-Great Show

The Barenaked Ladies know how to put on a great show! Loved the Orpheum!

  • Even without Steven Page, BNL was still Amazing!

by Psychlone on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Many people informed me that the Barenaked Ladies won't be the same without Steven Page with the band anymore. But, I still purchased tickets, as being a fan of them since their Gordon album of 1992; I knew they wouldn't disappoint, and I was RIGHT! Granted, the songs obviously won't sound the same. The rest of the band, especially Ed Robertson really carried the entire concert, with amazing vocals and beautiful harmonies with a bit different mixed melodies to replace the absence of Steven Page on certain songs. But, it still was a typical Barenaked Ladies performance with humor, jokes and just plain ol' fun, once again! There are certain jokes that can't be said online. But, I really loved the changes in lyrics with different songs to personalize to the city they are performing and also discussing the noticeable "Upper and Lower Santas" during their set of "If I had 1,000,000 dollars". All, in all. BNL (as usual) did not disappoint and it was absolutely spectacular event/concert! When, they return I will definitely be in attendance again! Gratned, it's not the same without Steven Page...But, for this performance I would actually give them a 4.9/5.0...Because, they didn't play my favorite song of BRIAN WILSON!

  • Not the same, but still lots of fun!

by Cckk on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

So, BNL is definitely different without Steven, but Ed, Tyler, Jim and Kevin still put on a great show. I missed some of the banter that usually accompanies the BNL shows; the Santa piece was fun, but there just wasn't enough of that silly dialogue. Missed hearing more of their old stuff, but understand they are trying to start a new set list with the new band configuration. Just remember... Classic BNL hits will always be welcome at concerts, but the new pieces will take a little more time to get used to. Also, the sound was a little harsh at times, making it hard to hear when the guys were just talking... I know I missed a couple off-the-cuff remarks because the sound wasn't clear.

  • BNL rocked!

As usual Bare Naked Ladies put on a great show. Even without Stephen Page they still were amazing. Best show I've seen all year.

  • BNL - And Then There Were Four

by TonyVinMN on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

The first outing of the newly re-imagined Barenaked Ladies turned out pretty darned good! I consider myself a true BNL fan. My first concert experience was an outdoor event in 1994. I've seen them on each tour since, in a mix of venues. The big question on my mind (and everyone else's I am sure), is how would they do without Steve? The answer is in two parts. As one would expect, the songs that previously featured Ed's vocals pretty much came off without a hitch. Kevin Hearn did an excellent job picking up the "second guitar" duties. And when the harmony vocals were intended to be subtle and truly in the background, Kevin and Jim were great. The difficulty came when the backing vocals played a prominent role in the song. While Kevin has a well-controlled voice, it is much higher than Steve's. The result was a harmony that was a full octive higher than the versions we all know and love from the sudio and live versions of the songs. In otehr instances, the harmonies just came across as sloppy. No offense to Jim...he's an amazing musician and can pull off some amazing vocals (as I will discuss below), but in some instances, it just came across as a one-in-the-morning karoake session. Kind of a let-down. But let's not forget that Steve is a trained vocalist...pretty big shoes to fill. One last comment about the BNL "oldies". This is moving into what I and others might consider "sacred ground"..."If I Had $1,000,000". There was a tour a few years back that the band decided to rotate through their anthology and play a different set of music at each show of the tour. At the end of the second encore, when they still hadn't played "If I Had...", the house lights came on and everyone started filing out...I just stood there with a blank stare. I thought to myself "These people are crazy! They're leaving and the show isn't even over. How could it be over...they haven't played 'If I Had $1,000,000' yet!" That show ended up a disappointment for me, although as I recall the rest of the show had been as amazing as ever! Well...this latest version of the song has left me wishing they had left it off the play list. I think they got a lot of flack for leaving it off the list six years ago, but this go-around was very obligatory and just lacked any real energy. Kevin's super-high voice couldn't carry the response lines. Ed had to beg the audience to belt out those lines to energize the song. In the end everyone was cheering, but I think an objective observer would agree...leave it out or find a way to get Jim to sing it with Ed! The second part of the two-part answer to how they handled the lack of Steven Paige is all positive. The new music for their current album, along with some selected acapella numbers that really nailed their harmony capabilities were simply AMAZING! I can't say enough good stuff about the music they are CAPABLE of making. Of course they have to honor their long legacy of great songs, but I am very happy with where they will be able to go in the future. These guys have always blended true talent with great songwriting, amazing guitar work and super-clever lyrics and themes. Their latest contuinues to deliver on that expectation! So buy the album, see the band, and know you're going to get a great experience!

Had great seats 5 rows from the stage. I love BNL, but miss Steve.

  • BNL still the best!

by Anonymous on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I was a little concerned based on the recent departure of Stephen Duffy but the boys still showed they could put on a great and entertaining show. More importantly, they made some of the older BNL hits their own.

  • I miss Steve

I think Ed Robertson is amazing, but the other guys should be back up singers ONLY!

  • BNL, AWESOME

by Kellcut on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Saw BNL at the Orpheum last night. This is the 3rd time we've seen them there and they ROCKED. I was a little apprehensive seeing them without Steven Paige, but they proved they can carry the show.

  • BNL Still the Best !!!

by Bieds on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The new BNL still has all the best you can ask for in a concert. I really thought that they were better now that Kevin Hearn and Jim Creggan are allowed to step up an interact more. Great concert !!

  • Barenaked Ladies were awesome!

by WeezerTheSneezer on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The guys put on a great show last night at the Orpheum in Minneapolis. You can tell that they still love doing it even after 20 years.

  • OUTSTANDING

by Jandermoose on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I have always wanted to see BNL in concert, and after seeing the show I can't wait to see them again! This was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They are not only very talented singers and musicians, but they are top notch entertainers as well. I never sat down through the whole show, I danced and sang, laughed and smiled, and thoroughly enjoyed my time. Please go see this band - you will not regret one penny spent on them.

  • BNL you were a blast!

This was the third time seeing the Barenaked Ladies in concert. I was a little concerned about how the concert would be without Steven Page, but came out feeling everyone stepped up to the plate and it was awesome!!!
