  • BNL was so so

by rincontbird on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

I'm a huge fan of BNL and the concert last night was forgettable. It definitely appears they'd lost their motivation and more so appear to be on their last leg. Do get me wrong, the songs were sung well, and they added some humor; but for the most part it didn't live up to the hype and expectations I derived from attending their previous concerts.

  • BNL still rocks

by TLuke on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

The energy is back. They actually seem like they're having fun. We were concerned that they wouldn't be nearly as good without Stephen P. While there are some songs they just can't play anymore, there's still pleny to choose from. BNL has always done a good job of reimagining older songs to keep things interesting. They played for just under 2 hours. I'd go again.

Always fun to see Barenaked Ladies, but I miss Steven Page. Things seemed a little more freeform without Steven and Ed bantering. Fun show, though nevertheless.

  • Great show!

by Firstimelive on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Went to my first BNL concert. Very entertaining. I did not know any of their new stuff, loved it when they played the "oldies". Great venue too. I would go again. Wish people would sit more, standing for an hour so I could see got old -- not the band's fault.

  • BNL delivered... as usual!

by MTCC on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Despite Stephen Page's absence, BNL put on an excellent and very entertaining show. High energy, amazing music. The band seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage, which made it great for the audience.

  • BNL RULES!!!!!

by gurlintheworld on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was simply awesome - I can't say that enough. These guys are truly talented musicians and performers. The sound of the acoustic guitars was unbelievable.....just beautiful, actually. The harmonizing of their voices in downright amazing!

BNL rocked as always. In between shows, I forget how funny they are! They did not disappoint this time either.

  • Ehh....

    by jgus828 on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

Between Ed & Steven I was always more of an Ed guy. But after seeing them perform last night, it's clear how much Steven meant to the Ladies. The show started out very well, great paced songs and then the middle of the show came. What seem to be about a 5 or 6 song stretch is was mellow and low key. I know some of their better songs are this, but to put them all in a row, it really took the energy out of the show. Jim & Kevin sang some songs and unfairly, Steven songs. They have their own distinctive voices and songs on the new album, but it's just the same hearing them do Steven's songs. The banter done between the band sounded rehearsed and wasn't that great compared to prior tours. It's almost like they are forced to do this now even without Steven there even though it seemed that Ed & Steven fed off each other. The show did pick up again towards the end of the show, but the encore was less than spectacular. This is my 7th time seeing the Ladies and probably would see them again with this lineup. Unfortunately the show was just average and it's obvious how big of part Steven had with the band.

  • BNL is still entertaining, but not quite the same

by OGTeach on 5/18/10Orpheum Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

I've been a BNL fan for a long time so I couldn't abandon ship when Steven Page left the band. I went to the concert with mixed emotions, knowing things weren't quite going to be the same. I was wonderfully impressed with much of the music off their latest album, they've made a wonderful transition to a four piece. What disappointed me were their attempts to play songs that were originally sung by Page. They don't live up to the original and left me bummed out and missing the old BNL. Fan favorite "If I Had a Million Dollars" was a let down, with Kevin Hearn filling in on lyrics originally sung by Page. Hearn isn't Page and it showed on that song. I would be fine never hearing that song live again if it meant it wouldn't be butchered by another member of the band. I think I can love the new BNL, but part of me will still be longing for what used to be.

  • Great show -- very entertaining!

I had forgotten how fun BNL is in concert. They never disappoint.

Great show! These Guys are hilarious! I am seeing them again in Omaha!

  • by BNLrox on 5/18/10Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

You have not lived until you've seen this band play live. If you are a BNL fan, you should promise yourself you'll see them, because you won't regret it. They played many of their classics, plus lots of goodies from their incredible new album. Interaction with the audience is standard fare with these incredibly lovable guys. Their always-hilarious improv--especially loved Ed's nod to The Talking Heads and the band's "Intergalactic Chiropractic"--had me laughing until I nearly cried. I laughed, sang along, and screamed until I was hoarse! I could go on and on.... I just think they're doing an incredible job after all the rough times they had two years ago. Thanks for not giving up, guys, and making the world a better place with your music! ♥

  • by Anonymous on 5/18/10Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

I bought these tickets on a whim, just looking for something to do. I wasn't really looking forward to the concert at all. How wrong could I have been!! These guys are the greatest musicians/entertainers I have seen in a long long time!! They absolutely had the audience engaged from the start to the end!! I will see them every opportunity I get from now on!!

  • Great Show...seating not so great!

by frahmgl on 5/18/10Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

What a phenominal venue...and what an amazing band! Been following them for well over a decade, and this show laid to rest all concerns I have over Steven leaving. He's still missed!!! but the band plays on! Seating was a bit dissappointing. Perhaps because I bought a single ticket? I purchased in the first 3 minutes of access. I had fanclub ratings and bought the VIP package, and yet I was seated quite a ways back. Dissapointing. Time to bring back the Ladies Room lottery system!

  • A one of a kind live show !!!

by jfaldetta on 5/18/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

No other live act puts on a show like BNL if you haven't seen them live go you won't be disapointed.

  • Great show

by mrohlee on 5/17/10Louisville Palace - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Great, fun show in a great venue. BNL puts on a really great show with a good-sized set list. Louisville Palace is also a great and BEAUTIFUL venue. Highly recommended.

  • bare naked ladies

by Anonymous on 5/17/10Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 3 out of 5

The overall concert was good. The opener was too long then you had an intermission that was WAY too long. That late in the evening, all I wanted was to see The Bare Naked Ladies whom I paid for to see! Drunk people dancing during the concert was annoying, and the people behind them, could not see. I know that you can't control them, but in the beginning, I feel that your workers could tell them to sit down or move to the upper bowl, where no one was sitting, if they wanted to dance. It is bothersome too, with people continuously getting up and down going to the restroom or to purchase more food and drinks. But I know that is where your establishment makes money. Understandable. Your workers were phenominal!!! And very clean.

  • BNL still fun, but not quite the same

by ArubaTuesday on 5/17/10Toledo Zoo Amphitheater - ToledoRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen BNL 30+ times, have taken three rock cruises with them, so I consider myself an expert on this band. I admire them for being able to move on without former co-front man, Steven Page, but let's face it, the band is just not the same without him. Ed Robertson has a great voice and does most of the song writing, but noticed without the several breaks where Steven used to take lead, Ed's voice was not up to the constant song after song, and this was following a self proclaimed day of rest (no concert day before). Kevin Hearn is fine for a song or two, but he just doesn't have a good or strong voice. Jim Creegan sings lead on a couple of songs and I feel he has a better voice than Kevin. Tyler has a crazy mustache and glasses right now, he looks creepy! But that's Tyler. I miss the old days when the band were a band of brothers and musicians and friends and an amazing band to see live. During our last cruise with them in '09, it just wasn't the same, you could tell the party was coming to an end. The remaining four are still fun, but not quite the same. I probably won't hurry back to see them soon, but again someday. Best of luck guys, and THANK FOR ALL THE AMAZING MEMORIES!

  • Bare Naked Ladies was fantastic!!!

This was the best concert I have ever been to! Wow. and even songs about the good old QCA

  • Haven't lost a step

by juanfungi on 5/17/10Toledo Zoo Amphitheater - ToledoRating: 5 out of 5

This was the third time I've seen the band over a span of 10 years or so. Honestly, I was a bit concerned considering the change in the lineup but I can honestly say - this was my favorite show of the three. BNL in the studio is about clever songwriting and catchy hooks. BNL in concert is about a skilled group personalizing a relationship with the audience - something more than you can pull from the cd. Let's face it, with many bands, you could buy a six pack, a cd, and fireworks and have as good of a time for half the money. Not the case here. BNL localizes a show better than any band I've ever seen and their songs lend themselves well to pulling the audience together. In addition, it doesn't really matter what genre of music you prefer, the show, the crowd, and the musical craftsmanship will pull you in.
