  • Great night with BNL

by CLBPDX on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show, no other way to put it. The energy from the group was really strong, and the audience was having a great time. They played all of my favorites, plus some. It was a great Sunday night!

  • My first BNL

by zenalady on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I went with a friend, who has been a fan for many years. We both thought it was great, and spent most of the night on our feet dancing and singing.

  • Miss Steve

by Noho on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Miss Steve's stage presence and voice. What were they thinking when they picked Eraser for their encore song? They didn't play much off their new album - we went to see if they were still a viable band - they seem to be hanging on to their past too much. We have been to their last three concerts in Portland - proabaly won't go to another unless they put out a really great album that they will focus on at the concert.

  • by JLOWW on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I love BNL however since they're missing a member some of my favorite songs were not played but overall good show

  • I miss Steven Page!

by JLEEA on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

First off...Opening act Serena Ryder was awful. My spouse and I started laughing when she sang something to the effect of "Can I be someone else? Can I be somewhere else?" We wanted to shout "Yes, you can! Right now!!!!" BNL seemed tired. The energy just wasn't there. Everyone, possibly with the exception of Ed, should stay as background singers. BNL sounded best when Serena came on stage to help out. I saw BNL the last time they came to town (with Steven) and we left the theater with wanting to go out and get all the other BNL albums we didn't have yet. After this concert I had to go and re-listen to some of their albums just remind myself of the good (not that) old days. Sigh.

  • by Anonymous on 5/24/10Toledo Zoo Amphitheater - ToledoRating: 5 out of 5

Barenaked Ladies put on a great show. They incorporated the zoo surroundings in their show really well, afterall, the concert was in the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater! These guys definitely know how to put on a good, solid show. Nice mix of their old and new music. The opening act was a pleasant surprise and I liked that BnL invited her to sing with them on one of their new songs (Every Subway Car).

  • BNL holds their own

by rlwill on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Awesome show. Bittersweet without Steve, but BNL is holding their own. A good mix of old and new with Kevin and Jim really picking up with the comedic interludes that Steve was so good at. Very high energy as always and I would highly recommend catching them this tour!

  • Missed the big guy

    by JoeFan66 on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Even though I'd seen BNL three times in the past, I have to admit that I hadn't heard that Steven Page had left the group (shameful, I know). Before the concert, I told my friend, who wasn't that familiar with BNL, that they "have one singer who has a world-class voice, and another whose voice is decent, but that most high school choirs would have at least one member with a voice that is as good." So, suffice it to say that I was disappointed not to be able to hear that voice. I still enjoyed the concert -- good rapport with the audience, very good musicians, familiar songs (even if not sung by the original artist). But, I just couldn't help thinking of "Van Hagar", and that the unfortunate split has to be a definite step down for both Steven Page and what is left of the BNL. Steven will probably never be in a group that is as good, and BNL is now a rather average band...

  • by Anonymous on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I thought that BNL provided a great concert! The group had great vocals, played well, and brought a great sense of humor to the show.

  • BNL is great

by LongtimeBNLfan on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I've been a fan for a long time, since before One Week became a hit. So you have to take what I say in that context. I thought the show was great. Yeah, they are a different band without Steven Page, but they have been different every time I've seen them. I think the new stuff is well suited to the voices and tones of the band now, and I still enjoy the old favorites. I still love Million Dollars. I think the bigger role that Jim Creegan, Kevin Hearn and Tyler Stewart play only helps the band.

  • BNL Still has it going on!

    by BNLfan117 on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Even without S.P. there's still bucketloads of talent on the Stage! Very enjoyable show! ED,JIM, TYLER and KEVIN are wonderful musicians!

  • YES!!!!!!

by BigWeen on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

If I had $1,000,000 I would see BNL play over and over and over!

  • The Opening Act Saved the Show

by Gypsyprincess on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

BNL just didn't draw the audience in, The performance seemed very staged and lacking spontaneity. Technically they were exceptional, there were not outstanding moments... except for the opening act Serena Ryder- she rocked!

  • BNL at Keller

by kublahkhan on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

BNL offered a fine & generous performance in spite of the less than intimate surroundings. Promoters and planners do a great disservice, both the the band and the venue, when the two are so mismatched.

  • BNL was better than ever!

    by GordonSm3 on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. The band sounded great. The set was a really tight mix of the older favorites like "One Week", "If I had a Million Dollars", "Old Apartment", etc. and songs from the new album, like "Graffiti Love", "You Run Away", and "Another Heartbreak". I was so happy to see Kevin healthy and picking up a good bit of the vocal load from Ed. I wondered how some of the songs would sound without Steven, but really I think they are missing nothing. Their sense of humor remains intact despite some of the things that have happened to them recently. They came out and did a great encore which consisted of a really funky version of Eraser off of their kid album and they closed with "Blame it on Me" from their first album Gordon. Honestly, it was a great show from start to finish.

  • Sadly missing Steven Page

    by LoisCooks1965 on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

I love BNL but, something is just missing without Steven Page. The only way I can explain it is that the harmonies are less full. They are still pretty entertaining and the show was better than I had anticipated after hearing their newly released mellow CD. While I think Kevin Hearn is a great musician, he kind of sounds like a cartoon character when in the lead vocal roll. It just isn't his thing. Ed Robertson is still my favorite and always sounds great but, he needs to find someone else to "co-host" the Ladies with. Kevin isn't it. No offense Kevin. Sorry. Also, our seats weren't the best for sound quality. We were against the back wall in the middle of the first balcony & it really seemed to make the sound more harsh. The opening act, Serena Ryder was very entertaining. Really good vocals - she sounded much like Melissa Etheridge with hints of Janis Joplin and even Duffy now & then. She was endearing, and funny and I will be buying her CD.

  • Amazing!

    by BKitty911 on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

BNL rocked the house with lots of my old faves and many of their new songs which were great. I loved the silly things they did in between songs (and during some!) and they just put on a really great show.

  • by Anonymous on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Ed is still on top of his game. I miss Stephen Page. The two of them made for a better dynamic of humor and music.

  • by bethie on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show, but they always put on a great show!!

  • We loved BNL!!

by originalone on 5/24/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

My husband was sick and couldn't attend with our daughters and me. He always says "If I had a Million Dollars got me through chemo" so when you played it last night we phoned him so he could listen in. Great show! I must say that I've never been much of a fan of "Million Dollars" but it was terrific live. Loved it!
