The show was absolutely teriffic! The band was outstanding and sounds just like they did years ago; so much so I thought that I was listening my album. If you have not seen them live then you must check them out next March when they will be back at the Birchmere; you will not regret it. Worth every penny.
I traveled 800 miles to hear these guys and they didn't disappoint!!! The Best!!!
Great, great concert! I enjoyed all my old favorites, & the new songs I didn't recognize sounded pretty awesome, too. I like the more intimate feel of HOB - wonderful small-hall concert. My 19-yr-old son went with me, although he had no idea who they were, & he even enjoyed them!
Great performance as usual. Loved hearing both the oldies and the new tunes! Only disappointment was them not playing "Cloudy". House of Blues was the perfect spot-- keep bringing them back! Can't wait to see them again!
I loved it. Great memories! I would definitely see them again.
My seat was at the stage's edge, just below Freddy V. So I got every note of that great old Alto sax (with the new neck) and his eyes as he played. They played all their hits, as expected and desired. They only made slight modifications to a few songs which is just the way I like it. Play it like we know it and love it. They played a few other songs which we didn't know but were enjoyable. Klyde Jones has a very rich and creamy voice along with playing several instruments. He played this one guitar that sounds like George Benson. Klyde is extremely talented and I would recommend getting his solo album in addition to the group's latest - Times Squared. I don't know where these Scottish gents got all that soul from but I'll make sure to see them again when they return to the southland in a few months. Their music never gets old. Rocky did a drum solo (I usually loathe drum solos) but this not-so-young brother hit the mark with his talent. They didn't play "If I ever Lose this Heaven" which would have topped the set off for me. I've already checked their "Work to Do" list and plan to see them again in March and May.
My husband and I have been fans of the Average White Band since the 70's and had the pleasure of seeing them in concert last night in a very small intimate setting (Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, CA). The group sounds fantastic and only wish I could have made it to the Nokia Theater in LA the night before where the group also performed with Tower of Power. (Saw T of P a few months ago at the Grove in Anaheim and they blew us away too!) Nothing better than a night of old school funk to get you feeling good! AWB did not disappoint and they sound as good as when I saw them 30 years ago (can it really be that long ago?) when I was in college. They played all of their hits and a few other goodies School By Crush, Cut the Cake, Pick up the Pieces, Got the Love, Person to Person, Work to Do!!! Awesome! Would definitely see them again.
they still have what it takes to Rock a House. I had to stand most of the time, the music was exhilerating. Half way through many took to the floor as the music carried us to that perfect "rcokin" spot!
This band was fantastic start to finish. There is an essence about them even with the new members. They are excellent musicians and 'hear' all the nuances of their music. I had an absolute blast and an unforgettable time. Viva AWB!!!
Thank you, Thank you, thank you! We saw AWB in Providence , RI back in late 70's. I am ashamed to say that I didn't realize they still performed. We took 4 friends with us and we converted them to the AWB fan club. My best friend loved you so much that her husband bought her your CD the next day. The only thing missing was a dance floor! This was our first time at BBKings and we all loved the cabaret setting.
Great performance!! One of the best I've seen in a long time.. Had B.B. King Blues club on it's feet!!!!! These guy's played a mix of new and old that brought back old memories and made me want to buy their newest CD... An intimate performance at an awesome venue!!
Great show. Jazz Alley is a small venue so there really isn't a bad seat. They played their old favs along with some of their newer stuff. I see them everytime they come to seattle and I'm never disappointed. They move around on instruments too, which I didn't expect the first time I saw them. Had a drum solo in the show as well which really highlighted how good the drummer is.
Awesome is all I can say. The cross talent in this current line-up is unbelievable.
The Average White Band was as impressive and dynamic as when I first saw them in 1977. They only get better with time. Jazz Alley is the premier showcase for the best of the best in the Pacific Northwest.
Dont let the fact these guys haven't had a hit in some time discourage you from seeing them. They are a SUPER TIGHT band with stand out musicianship. Alan Gorrie is one of the best funk bass players, (heavily influenced by James Jamerson) and singers in any band. These players have honed their craft and together they are incredible and highly entertaining. You will recognize most of their songs but most importantly you won't be able to sit still. Jazz Alley is a super-cool venue to see any group and AWB was a stand out!
Amazing show - exceeded my expectations. I brought my old AWB record album and my son got two of the original band members to autograph it! Pick Up The Pieces was my son's favorite song when he was about 2, so it was a memorable concert for him too.
I know it hard to remain as agroup over a number of years, but it's not fair to the fans when they expect to see aheadline band, who not only don't have the same personel, and can't play all the song that the band is known for. It was a great opportunity for a once outstanding band to return to the vocals and soun d that made them famous. We as fans need to know when the presonel changes. The Band that perform is not the same band that you even have on their picture, on this web site. I like the Band, they did the best with what they had. too bad it fell short compared to the Average White Band we know and love.
We danced all night! This band was so tight. I couldn't believe the sax player, the drummer and all of them really, we had a BLAST!! we bought their live cd and plan on jammin' with it tonight. GREAT SHOW! nico
The show was simply amazing, one unforgettable evening! A must see!!!!
