Left a lot to be desired

by Rawhit on 1/31/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

Came on over 20 minutes after the opening act left the stage. To much time promoting new stuff, and not enough of the good stuff (NO CHOO, CHOO, CHA BOOGIE)

you won't fall asleep at asleep...

by laughslave on 1/31/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

Over the last several years i've seen huge arena concert shows from the stones to streisand with their 20,000 size audiences in vegas and baseball stadiums... they were awesome... when i saw asleep was coming to town didn't hesitate to get tickets... upon arriving at the 1,000 capacity gilbert venue it took a little while to get used to the idea this was not going to be a million dollar extravaganza.... no dazzling light show, special effects, or liquor... but as asleep began their first song i was instantly glad i was in the room, they were awesome.... this was a total show about the music and their fantastic swing boogie style... i believe they did "route 66" third song in, that was the one song i was waiting for... as the show progressed, was unaware ray benson is such a great guitarist... started to wish we all were in a small bar and could've been dancing with the band rocking a few feet away, and i could've had a couple of drinks... but, it was great...

Asleep at the Wheel stays current!

by RobinC11 on 1/31/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

Having listened to this Texas swing band since the 70s, I can say with authority that they have not only polished their already formidable musical skills, but have kept things fresh through the years. It was great to discover they've grown along with the rest of us. The addition of new members and new themes are blended seamlessly and this band always delivers, whether on stage or cd. They are SMOOTH......

    The Wheel Keeps on Rollin!

by Ashridgegirl on 1/31/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

Asleep at the Wheel has never disappointed us. We have seen them 2 other times over a 20 year period and it is amazing that Ray Bensons voice has stayed so clear. The other musicians he has assembled are wonderful. Very talented group. My 80 year old Mom had never seen them and she loved it. She had heard the songs but never experienced a live performance. Thanks so much for a great evening of foot stomping, toe tappin music.

Amazing, masterful performers! To say that the Band puts on a good show is an understatement! Their music is classic, up-beat and brings back happy memories! Their masterful blend of country, blues, and jazz is truly intoxicating!! It's well worth watching these talented musicians live!!!

Asleep at the Wheel was fantastic

by CatfishLover on 1/24/10Cypress Saloon - Cypress

Asleep at the Wheel lived up to its reputation as the premier Western Swing band of its generation during a Friday night performance at the Cypress Saloon near Houston. The group executed flawless vocal and instrumental prowess that was contemporaneous and faithful to its genre. Each note that was sung and played showcased The Wheel's appreciation for the swing traditions of Bob WIlls, as well as the mainstream jazz scenes of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. All of the picnic tables in the club were occupied well before the headliner appeared at 10:00 p.m. The audience was already standing-room only as the talented opening band Amber Digby and Midnight Flyer played for the crowd's dancing and listening enjoyment. When Asleep at the Wheel appeared, the dance floor crowded in a hurry and at times, people were elbow-to-elbow on the dance floor and also in the standing-room only audience. Asleep at the Wheel showcases three gifted vocalists and an assortment of fine musicians. This is one of the best live bands I've heard in a long time.

Asleep at the Wheel was well worth the money!

    by pamcgee51 on 1/24/10Cypress Saloon - Cypress

I purchased the tickets for a surprise for my husband. He thoroughly enjoyed them, and just to see the sparkle in his eyes when they played a Bob Wills song was worth it. We stood in front of the speaker and next to the table with the t-shirts and CD's. I bought my husband a t-shirt, too.

    Just OK

by twotanks on 1/23/10GLASS CACTUS NIGHTCLUB - Grapevine

Ray seemed tired or distracted or something. The venue is great for dancing (we didn't) but not great for enjoying a concert (we wanted to). We got a table but then the people who only paid the $10 cover milled around and many/most were oblivious to the band. Elizabeth was great.

RAY, THE BOYS, AND ELISABETH WERE AWESOME! WENT WITH 9 OTHERS AND WE HAD A GREAT TIME. IT WAS A GOOD CROWD THAT SEEMED TO ENJOY EVERY MINUTE. SHOULD OF MOVED THE TABLES OR AT LEAST A FEW TO MAKE ROOM ON THE DANCE FLOOR.

Asleep at the Wheel are outstanding

by eyeintheskyguy on 9/28/09The Mansion - Branson

Asleep at the Wheel is one of my favorite bands so I'm going to write a good review. The Mansion Theater is very nice. We had 2nd row seats; the band wasn't loud, It was just right. If you like their type of music you can't find a better band. They are all excellent musicians, three of them can sing very well. The girl has an outstanding voice.. They had bus trouble getting to the show but they just laughed about it and still put on a great show. The only bad thing I can say about the night was I could have listened to them for another hour and a half and I would have liked the girl to sing more.

    Worth the trip!

    by gsb66762 on 9/26/09The Mansion - Branson

We traveled 120 miles for this concert and were not disappointed! We've listed to AATW for quite a while, have some of their albums (does that date me?) and were glad to be able to see them in person. Loved the music, the down home, glad-you-came style of the group, and was particularly impressed by the musical capabilities of the group members.

Asleep at the Wheel--can't be beat!

by DACNY on 9/2/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

These guys (and gal) can sing, play and sound just as good live as they do on recordings. It's a down-home party that you don't want to end. Come back to BB's and NYC REAL SOON!

    Best Band in America?

by Daemonomania on 9/2/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Fun and the band is incredibly talented. Endless corny jokes, great tunes, improvization, solos (on every instrument except the drums and stand-up bass), Bob Wills worship, and overall toe-tapping good times. Plus the bandleader from the Letterman Show dropped in to play the piano for a couple tunes too.

Asleep at the Wheel certainly wasn't!!!

by SWMBO on 8/29/09Birchmere - Alexandria

This is the __th time I have seen/heard them and even though my tastes lean more toward classic rock, this is a group that I will always make an effort to see. The fact that they always appear to be having fun themselves is contagious and is an important part of their schtick. My only regrets are that I did not get to hear Elizabeth sing Bump, Bounce Boogie and that I had to leave at the end of the main set and missed the encore that I am sure they probably gave.
