We were very excited about the James Bond theme symphony, and it exceeded all of our expectations. It was amazingly coordinated and educational, in addition to the stupendous orchestra performance and soloist performances.
Fantastic concert for New Year’s Eve! Fun theme and music with an appreciative crowd. Some dressed up, some didn’t and it was all good. The music was excellent! Darko always looks like he’s having fun and it’s contagious. Our favorite way to spend NYE.
The symphony was fantastic. However, paid too dollar for good seats and once the symphony started people from lower level seats came up and sat in expensive seats. They were pushy about it too. Seating not reinforced. Complained to usher and he said well the seat was vacant so why not. Next time I will pay for cheap seat and play same game.
I felt like I was back in NY in my old Italian neighborhood!!
As a recent transplant from Los Angeles, home of one of the top symphony orchestras in the United States, I didn't know what to expect when I went to see "Ode to Joy" with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra last Saturday night, 6/4. I was completely enthralled and overcome with the performance. It was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. The orchestra is magnificent, as was the choir and the soloists were extraordinary. Darko Butorac was electric. It was one of the most uplifting, emotional and magnificent performances I have ever attended.
We so enjoyed this season finale! The 9th is a favorite of ours and the solo vocalists were terrific...especially the tenor. Only wish the other vocalists could've sung without masks; but of course it made sense. Looking forward to next season.
Disappointed with the venue rules and building. Masks required at this point in time was unreasonable. The building venue was in deparate needs of gutting and installation of new seats and the air handler was so loud that we strained to hear.
Asheville needs an auditorium with enough seats to showcase our symph pny and choruses. Although Ticketmaster sent out messages every day, therd were no maps of Auditorium and which entrance from what street for parking. The web site had directions from East and West but no specifics. The auditorium itself had too few docents to help people find seats. After saying we needed proof of vaccination, no one looked at it. It would improve sound somewhat if the walls were covered in fabric. Overall for an $85 ticvket I was dissapointed in the venue itself, not the performance, except to know how much better it could have sounded.
Got to take a young adult who had never attended an orchestral event ever. We were both so happy and thrilled with quality of music
William Hagen, guest violinist, was stellar on Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, opus 35. Considered one of the most demanding and difficult solo violin pieces, his mastery was evident. The entire thematic program entitled, “Folklore Fantasy” was evocative and rich. Darko Butorac, conducting, was exceptional in his ability to draw the best from the orchestra and to explore the diversity and subtly of the program.
This was an incredible experience and I am overjoyed to have witnessed the performance by these talented individuals. I laughed, I cried, and was on the edge of my seat at times moving through this emotional experience with the passion each musician poured onto the stage. Looking forward to experiencing their work in the future!
First of all, it was an absolute delight.....the sound, the majesty and the beautiful competence of all were a sight for sore eyes. So grateful that we have such a stellar orchestre in our community. Much Gratitude.
The singers were amazing. The orchestra music was great. Overall a great evening. I had trouble staying in my seat. I wanted to get up snd dance to the music.
Fantastic evening, with two powerhouse women with the additional bonus of the Asheville symphony! Live music was brilliant. All safely protocols observed. I loved the volunteers wandering around asking politely, Not to video from the phone.. such a spectacular evening unfortunately I felt it ended too soon. Starting at 8pm 8.15 after introductions, the intermission after 40 mins, which was 20 mins and finally another 40 mins to finish before 10 pm. We had paid over sticker price and felt a slight disappointment it didn't go on longer.. we did love the evening..
Soul music was great. The song selection was easy to sing along too.
Fantastic vocalists and stellar orchestral musicians hit it out of the ball park on New Years Eve in Asheville!
Much better than anticipated. Symphony was great as were the singers.
Spectacular- The music and the featured guest were fabulous. I wish they had played longer- I could have listened for hours!
This was our first time seeing the Asheville Symphony and they were excellent. The guest singers, Morgan James and Erica Gabriel, were outstanding. Their renditions of some of the classic soul songs honored the original queens of soul who recorded them. The staff of the auditorium were helpful and friendly. The auditorium was nice, but lots of peeling paint on the ceiling above the stage detracted from the experience.
