Capathia, her singers and the ASO gave wonderful performances, very dynamic and professional. The problem for me was with the audio mixing and amplification. When both the orchestra and Capathia reached crescendos, the sound became muddled, distorted and way too loud blasting out from a large pair of speakers high above the stage. At times her voice was buried by the overpowering orchestra. This is not an orchestra problem. It is a mixing board problem. This was uncomfortable for me and destroyed what could have been great moments in the performance. When she sang quieter songs with more gentle accompaniment you could really appreciate the complexity and beauty of her voice. I just wish there had been more of those moments. I am not used to hearing an orchestra heavily amplified, if at all. Is it assumed that we all suffer hearing loss?
Talented beyond measure Loved all the songs The orchestra was Amazing
The Asheville Symphony was a pure delight at the NYE She's Got Soul event. They were professional, played a variety of songs and just treated us to a most amazing evening. I can't wait to support again in the future.
Lucky to get a pair of seats on aisle left of the mix table so what we heard was what it was...đ It's fun to watch and hear the symphony 'let its' hair down' and play something 'not so serious' seriously....noticed the 2nd violinist was obviously 'into' what she got to play, which is as enjoyable as listening to everyone have some fun.... The 'Alt' Series needs to be continued, as we attended the Star Wars event at the Salvage Station as well, which the audience begins to be part of the show. And that's part of the show that's hard to imagine going on with the regular events.... ;) More please! ...and Happy New Year to all... Jerry
What a wonderful evening, great music and it was over by 10, plenty to time to get home before the ball dropped.
The New Years Eve performance of She's Got Soul was not nearly as good as the New Year's Eve 2022 performance of 007 songs. This show was mostly disco, not soul. Hard to believe you can have a show called "She's Got Soul", and not do an Aretha Franklin song or two. Micheal Jackson's "Thriller"is a great song, but you can't honestly call it "soul music". Hopefully they'll choose a better theme for New Year's Eve 2024.
Table seating next to the stage was worth the extra money. The wine and charcuterie board was included with a large variety of cheese. The tables and decor were festive. Capathia Jenkins was incredible. Every song she sang sounded like the original artist.
However, the audio level of Bella Fleckâs banjo was too low for me to appreciate his fine skills. That was disappointing, especially when he did the solo finale.
The Asheville Symphony was fantastic. They are a professional group and I look forward to their next concert.
The pianist was fantastic. The music choices were great. Downside was there was no leg room at all. It was very very tight and the seats were so uncomfortable (top back bleacher section) that one of our party has had severe back pain since. It would be nice if they would update the venue.
As the former orchestra manager of the Miami City Ballet, I can't help but listen with critical ears. The entire program was conducted and performed at an exceptionally high level. The Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor stood out in particular, with a stellar rendition by pianist Jacob Bernhardt. Kudos to the entire production. Asheville Symphony deserves a venue that befits its status as a fine regional ensemble. Harrahs Cherokee is not that hall. Peeling paint and poor acoustics anywhere from mid orchestra to the rear diminish the experience. Paint and acoustical treatment would work wonders.
Everything was delightful about the concert except the last piece. It was way way too long and repetitious for a last piece. I think if you look around the auditorium you would see that the age of the people was over 50. A short piece wouldâve been a lot better.
Thanks to Darko, his fabulous orchestra and the two amazing soloists for a great show!
My partner and I had a great time. The performances were incredible and the sound was amazing. We will definitely be going again.
Very enjoyable New Yearâs Eve event. Wonderful performance
Outstanding New Year's Eve performance with the Asheville symphony....
Sitting in the N-balcony and listening to the wonderful sounds of the symphony as they played the Bond franchise was like being at a major Broadway production. Vocalists Mikki Sodergren and Jonathon Christopher were absolutely superb as they sang the hits of 007. What a magical night and great way to ring in the New Year. This was the very best symphony experience I have ever had. Darko Butorac was superb as maestro for this wonderful event. His wit, knowledge and command of the orchestra was without a doubt the best I have ever seen. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
The Asheville Symphony was exquisite! We were thrilled with the James Bond performance, and the 2 featured singers were incredible! This was such a great way to bring in the new year!!!
It was an amazing experience, the Asheville Symphony was phenomenal and the two vocalists were just great. Most of the famous Bond soundtracks and songs were included. Overall a memorable experience. Would highly recommend if James Bond come to town again!!
