About

With over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. It’s no wonder the New York Times wrote, “Gary is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.”

A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program.

Gulman has made four successful TV specials including his most recent critically acclaimed stand-up special for HBO, The Great Depresh, a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019 he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He will next be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the upcoming Hulu comedy series, Life & Beth, and is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled K Through 12.

    Great show

by Debbie on 5/8/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Gary Gulman is one of my favorite comics. His stories that go off on many tangents and then return are just great; they keep you on your toes intellectually and are hilarious. Also, the Victoria Theater at NJPAC is a really nice intimate and comfortable theater.

    meh

    by B. H. on 12/6/22

About half of it was funny. Gary has a great handle on the language and when he gets into nuances of expressions, I don't think anyone does it better. He is so smart. We really love his typical material. That being said, in this particular event, there was too much negativity. In particular it wasn't even slightly funny when he was railing against Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Joe Rogan. I thought those comments were a complete misfire. Then when he got into his gripes against capitalism, I have to say he lost me. That stuff took too much away from a nice relaxing night out with one of our previously favorite comedians.

Give me comedy, not your one-sided politics

by Marty on 8/21/22The Pageant - St Louis

Gulman was okay until he trashed one political party. The difference between an okay comedian and a great one? A great comedian can pull off trashing both sides, or… …not touching politics at all. We saw Sebastian Maniscalco one week later in St. Louis and he was fabulous!!! No politics…and #1 comedian in the U.S.

Gary Gulman’s show checks all the boxes!

by Tracey on 6/15/22The Pageant - St Louis

What an authentic, well-read, culturally aware, and brilliant puzzle master in his craft. Putting together a comedy act that checks off all the boxes is hard to pull off. Gulman is very present with his audience as he intricately takes apart and reconfigures his comedy act to fit his crowd. So well done. I appreciate him and his attentiveness to being fully present, highly attentive and deeply comedic simultaneously. I Laughed so much, and I am honestly still discussing what he said with others- I’m so glad I got tickets.

    Perfect concert

by Dan Steadman on 6/14/22The Pageant - St Louis

Gary took on the powerful (Seinfeld, Chappelle), the corruption of dentistry, ranking the Beatitudes, and even some pretty local St. Louis observations (can't we also be the gateway to the east?) in his brilliant comedy concert. He's the best in the business - and the Pageant was a great venue for him.

About 50% of his jokes were funny. Definitely worth the money spent.

    Laughing till it hurt

by Bob G. on 5/31/22Moore Theatre - Seattle

Gary Gulman is a master comedian! He has a unique ability to tell a story, filled with digressions, that has a beginning, middle, and amazing and surprising ending. Very insightful and clever. We traveled from Salt Lake City to see him and have been long time admirers. Well done Gary - we kept repeating your jokes for days.

    Gary absolutely crushed it!!

by Liz on 5/19/22Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Thank god getting the will call ticket was easy! I would have been happier however, if my ticket had come in the mail. As for the show, it was fantastic! Gary did 75 minutes of all new material and he shined! From talking about Jerry Seinfeld being a billionaire to doing a British accent, to pacing the stage as he delivered his perfectly timed jokes Gary is a master craftsman at the top of his game! He looked healthy and happy and I was glad to see him. I'll definitely be back for the next Gary Gulman show!!! :-) :-) :-)

    70% Funny

by LisaBIndy on 4/11/22Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts - Indianapolis

I like Gary Gulman - I am a fan. This show was a pretty mixed experience. I would say 70% funny/smart, 10% funny/edgy in a way that makes you slightly uncomfortable, and 20% just angry. His bits about billionaires and Seinfeld fell flat for me in large part because his anger was not at all hidden by his cute smile. Does he really think that if Seinfeld didn't have a warehouse for his expensive cars the homeless problem would be solved? Felt like a personal vendetta rather than a comedy show... Lot's of good stuff to laugh at and chew on - still recommend!

    Great show - Odd crowd

by J. A. on 4/11/22Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts - Indianapolis

Gary's act is well crafted, laugh out loud funny and thought provoking. He elevates the experience with well turned phrases. The audience was strange. There was a couple on the front row that talked enough that he had to stop his act twice and they were almost removed. A few people yelled out and interrupted the pace of the performance. If you are coming to see a comedian, let him do his job.

    Gary Gulman funny man!

by Bill A. on 4/6/22Carolina Theatre - Durham

I bought tickets to Gary Gulman after hearing him on NPR and then buying a CD. Intellectual and funny...Hard to compare him with anybody else. Unique humor, and not raunchy.

    Needed this!

by Jo on 4/5/22The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

What a great time we all had during this one man show. Gulman refrained (well, he hit us once) from the usual derogatory Southern slams. His timing and delivery are spot on. You have to be a tad esoteric for some of his references but that's what makes him unique. Even us Charelstonians caught all his literary references.

3rd time...and we'll be back for the next one!

by CAMcD on 4/5/22Carolina Theatre - Durham

Our 3rd time seeing Gary Gulman. What a pleasure to attend his comedy event. He's so smart, clever and clean...doesn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for his humor. He's sophisticated, but relatable. Such a great show! We'll plan to see him every time he's in town.
