About

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

    Awesome performance dampened by venue

by Drew on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

The performance was awesome. Really great show. However, the amount of thrash caused by the venue started the evening difficult to enjoy the show. ASU gammach policies had us, along with a number of other patrons, heading back to their cars as their bag policy didn't allow my wife's small purse. Then when we got back they had me throw my 1"pocket knife away that I've had on my keys foe over 10 years and have taken all over the world with me without problem. The security level for an event like this was way overkill. Had 2 drinks that were just meh for $15 ea. To top it off the venue was HOT. Either the air was broken or they chose not to turn it on.

    Great Holiday Event

Great musicians, great music, and a wonderful use of large screen visuals to tie it all together.

    Mediocre at Best

by Cheryl M from Mesa on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

Disappointed that I booked early and was assigned Balcony tickets. We could not see full screen behind orchestra. He stage was completely bare. They could have put up some thing on stage so it was not barren. They didn’t play full sets of songs. Only played about 3/4 of each song. They need to change up the music or add new music. This is the same show I see every year. I doubt I will go to another one of their concerts. I bought tickets for friends and I was embarrassed this was the concert I took them to.

    Ehhhh

by CiennasMama on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

I love this music but was sorely disappointed in the live show. It was boring to watch, and the sound was off. It would have been just as pleasurable and much less expensive to listen to my discs at home and spend time with my family. My 13-year-old was so bored she wanted to leave.

    Nice concert

by Eileen on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

The venue was amazing! Mannheim Steamroller played flawlessly and the music was great. The musicians are glued to their spots on the floor and do not move around or interact much with the audience. I would love to see a camera on the musicians once in a while to showcase their talents on the big screen behind them.

    Outstanding!

by Italycathy on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

For many years, I would treat my cherished Mom to a Mannheim Steamroller concert. It was always such a gift! Although my sweetheart Mom passed last year, I joyfully invited my cousins to join me for this recent Christmas event. They had never been to a Mannheim Steamroller concert - yet because it was such an outstanding concert - we agreed to make this OUR annual event

    Disappointed

by Long time fan on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

The music was fine, nothing new but what you would expect at a Christmas concert. The disturbing part was being constantly blinded by bright lights from the stage, whoever was controlling the lighting obviously wasn’t qualified to do the job. It was extremely distracting, you had to constantly look down to keep from being blinded. We have seen our last Mannheim concert.

    Same show, different year.

by Cheese on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

Sorry. I love their Music, but this seems like a rehash of other concerts. Same videos as well. I have seen this show for 3 years in a row and it is the same show as before. This is probably my last time of seeing the group, as nothing has changed.

    Awesome performers; Disappointing production

by Pat on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

The performers were very talented, but had to leave at intermission, due to a migraine triggered by lights continually flashing in the eyes of those seated in the balcony. Should have been informed of this. Also, those in the balcony could not view the videos behind the performers. Seats should have been promoted as obstructed view.

    Great concert

    by Gman66 on 12/30/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

Great concert but exactly the same as it was a few years ago. Time to freshen it up with some new visuals and possibly new songs.

    Great presentation

by Christmas present on 12/30/23Findlay Toyota Center - Prescott Valley

Sound was perfect, we went to the Chicago concert earlier this year and the volume was so loud you couldn't understand the lyrics.

    Magical

by Cara on 12/30/23Findlay Toyota Center - Prescott Valley

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas was a spectacular event. Loved seeing videos about Chip Davis. Light show was also awesome. The musicians all played really well. We will definitely be returning next time. This was our second year visit.

A great show but aging…needs a bit updating

by Joe on 12/30/23Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

So, first, I really enjoyed the show. It was a reminder of the reasons why we choose MS for the season. That said, some of the production was just not aging well and needs an update. It is looking tired. Graphics in some area are just not great and while I loved Chip’s daughter singing…I would have preferred someone at the concert actually voicing it…the tickets are a bit pricy for a video.

    Awesome show

by Gigi on 12/29/23Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Enjoyed the show immensely. Parking access a bit of a problem (realize circle was closed) but traffic badly backed up. Understand use of technology for ticketing but for us older folks that’s a bit intimidating as well, felt like if I couldn’t access online-tough luck. Thankfully, it did work well. We also we’re interrupted by an usher needing to walk down our row to get someone off their phone.

    It was good

by CindyLouWho on 12/29/23Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

The staff was absolutely fantastic and very organized. The area was very clean and friendly workers. I have always loved the SteamRollers and we drove 4 hours each way to see them . It was definitely worth going to. I was expecting a more updated concert but after seeing them before to me it was just the same as always. I’m not trying to be a complaining person at all maybe the orchestra was just getting tired from all the shows. It was a very beautiful evening and a special memory. I do wish that everyone that loves their music goes just once . Happy NewYear to all and be blessed .

    Ok not great

by Diana R on 12/29/23Findlay Toyota Center - Prescott Valley

Really love Mannheim Steamroller’s music, but this show left a LOT to be desired. Again, the music was great, but the audio output was very low- definitely not concert level and the videos/ visuals they had on the big screens (which weren’t really very big) have not been updated since the 70s. All in all it was disappointing.
