About

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

    Anything but goofy

by Goofy on 12/31/23San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

This event was extraordinary. Very well done. Wish I had seen the original group. The artists were extremely talented. Love the journey through Mannheim's history. The music was phenomenal and didn't want it to end. Only criticism is, some of the videos displayed did not fit the music. Definitely recommend going! I would go again in a heartbeat.

Good and consider floor seats only if possible

    by Kim77 on 12/31/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

On the second floor of the theatre, the higher notes caused earrache. I think its just the accoustics of the theatre, but it would be wise to bring earplugs. Also, if you suffer from light induced epilepsy, please be warned that the entire concert has bright flashing lights - these could be toned down or done away with as I had to close my eyes a lot.

Concert on December 28 at the Civic Theater

by Susan on 12/31/23San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

We recently attended the Mannheim Steamroller Concert at the Civic Theater. The music was excellent, the show enthusiastic and the audience delighted. My only complaint, the "light show"deemed necessary to compliment the evening. Why is it that strobe and flashing lights accompany many concerts now days?Having them flash haphazardly around the theater and in the eyes of audience members seems unnecessary and for many, uncomfortable. There is much to be enjoyed without the constant movement of lights to distract and blind the concert goers.

    Magnificent Christmas Concert

by MS devotee on 12/31/23San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

After Thanksgiving each year, Christmas music by Manheim Steamroller is in my home and in my car everyday. It brings me peace and tranquility. As much as I enjoy the music every day leading up to Christmas, the Concert took me to a new level of enjoyment. The lighting, the videos were incomparable. Thank you!

by Wonderful Concert on 12/31/23Findlay Toyota Center - Prescott Valley

I’ve listened to MS since their first Christmas Album. Anyone remember Rush Limbaugh playing them? But, I had no idea their range. They played all different genres, all wonderfully! Every musicians played multiple instruments and really seemed to enjoy their performance. All the musicians smiled throughout. I loved their performance and highly recommend them any time of the year!

    Awesome!

by HS on 12/31/23San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

I’ve seen Mannheim Steamroller several times and the performance at the Civic Center San Diego was by far THE best. It was an awesome concert. The venue enhanced the music by the lighting, sound and even the falling snow. Every musician was outstanding. The drummer has big shoes to fill (Chip Davis) and he was spot on. I can’t say enough and can’t wait until they return to San Diego. Bravo !!

    Great music bad visuals

by Andrew on 12/31/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

The music and performers were great. The visuals, the videos playing on the big screen, were dated, low quality and poorly themed. In general the videos distracted from the excellent and energetic performance.. It’s time to update the visuals..

The music was great, the background scenery did not seem to match the music and was more distraction than an enhancement.

    Best concert ever!

by Cynthia on 12/31/23San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

I have always wanted to go to Mannheim Steamroller but never felt like I could fit it into my busy holiday season. This year I brought my father, kids and teenage grandson. We loved it! This was the best concert ever! We range from 15 years old to 85 years old and we all were rocking in our seats. We sat in the balcony and the seats were fantastic. Make the time and go, it’s so worth it. We will be back next year.

Everything I could have ever expected.

by Gwen on 12/31/23ASU Gammage - Tempe

Excellent show. The music was everything you expect with amazing visuals for each song behind the stage. The show was longer than I expected so it was well worth the ticket price.

Great show but would have been better if the singers were actually there instead of on the screen.
