About

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

    Mannheim Minstral show

by DebbyKevin on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - Topeka

This concert was more Rennesance Festival, than Christmas. I enjoyed all the music, but thought it should've been more Christmas than Ren Fest! Also, I thought the stage, lights, etc....would be more, uh, decorated.

excellent show, but the place was cold and drafty. I think the concert should have been decorated Christmas like for the show to get you in the mood, atmosphere was cold and indifferent. need to be more festive for holiday shows

by Mommy2002 on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

An excellent performance. My husband, son and I had a wonderful experience and a lovely night to welcome in this glorious holiday season.. We loved the music and the drummer was a show himself (but we loved the rest of the show also).

The acoustic precision of Mannheim Steamroller is what made them famous IMHO, and they don't dissapoint.

Mannheim not as good as last year.

by Ornament on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

Once again the drum was overmiked. This time they were obviously trying to sell more CDs with Christmas music only. I'm not sorry I went, but I won't go back next year.

The Holidays Came Early This Year

by CJVillager on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

There is nothing like Mannheim Steamroller to start off the holiday season with a lilt, and a jump, and a bang. We are IN-THE-MOOD. We especially enjoyed the pre-concert talk and learning more about the amazing manifestations of Mannheim Steamroller throughout the nation and beyond. Thank you to the Phillips Center for making our evening possible.

    Mannheim Steamroller amazing as always.

by gilchrist on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

We've seen Mannheim Steamroller on three occasions when they've performed in Gainesville, FL. This concert was excellent as were the other two. Our only issue is with the venue for allowing very small children to attend without a seat. The small child sitting directly behind us on his mother's lap continually kicked my husband and both of our seats. Additionally, his talking and crying during the performance were very distracting. The venue truly needs to set a minimum age and require a ticket purchase thereby providing a seat for small children.

    Mannheim Steamroller was magnificent!

by JudyOcala on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

The performance of Mannheim Steamroller was the best start to the Holiday Season anyone could ask for. The music was superb. They had screens as a back drop that displayed everything from ice skaters, to dancers, and actors. Everything was well correlated from the lighting, to the music, and the sound. I would highly recommend this show for everyone to see. It was an excellent professional production.

    Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Concert-FAIL!

by G8trmom on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

Sixteen songs, of which 3-4 were actual Christmas songs known to most people. It was more of an Old English Court Dinner. Graphics were elementary and outdated-circa 1970. The only lights were a blue/red single lights. I had rather go to a Jr. High Band Concert than sit through that again. It was a total disappointment and a real failure to begin the holiday season. The sound was imbalanced with the drum beat the only thing that came through LOUD and clear. The 8 piece orchestra section appeared to be an impromptu ensemble from the local college. UGH!!

    Christmas Mannheim Steamroller Disappointing

by ocalagirl on 11/13/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

I have seen other Christmas concerts and this one did not meet the expectations that I had. The graphics were outdated and corny and the music was bland. I would not recommend this concert to anyone considering it.
