Phoenix Mercury History

The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made five total appearances, winning it all three times in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and holds multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner has earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broken several block records.

    We Can Do This!!

    by SheShe on 7/23/23

The arena was electrifying! We got two wins in a row!! I believe we still have a chance to make the playoffs if we continue to have fewer turnovers, box out, and not give up second-chance shots! Mighty Mercury, we can be number one again!!

    Great game

    by W-sports fan on 7/12/23

This LA fan could not have been more excited to see the Mercury in person, too. I can exhale now that I’ve seen BG in person, thriving and what a fantastic game she had, too. The arena was packed with a cheering and enthusiastic crowd. I am so glad I came to this game. And, it’s a really nice arena as well. Very impressed.

WNBA - The Greatest Show on Earth

    by Tracee on 7/12/23

Superstars Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi and the Mercury crew did not come to play with the L.A. Sparks. They wanted this win, they needed this win, and win they did. Loved every second of this game, so much fun and excitement down to the last second. It was so awesome to see my South Carolina babies Henny Henderson and Zia Cooke play live! Along with the gorgeous Ogumike sisters and both teams. Definitely will be back. Let's pack this Footprint Center, Phoenix, so we can get these superstars the salaries they truly deserve!!

    Great time

    by ZM on 7/12/23

I love going to Phoenix Mercury games and other sporting and concerts at footprint center because of the great energy and atmosphere. The sound system is amazing and the people who work there are kind and helpful. Footprint center is easy to get to as the light rail is right there and free to ride. I highly recommend going there for any events that interest you in the future.

    Great basketball

    by Dani R on 7/12/23

If you love basketball, these WNBA games are so fun to watch. The energy on and off the court is great and they are way less crazy than NBA games. Plenty of food and drink options inside the stadium. And the dance team was the best!

    Mercury game

    by Phil on 7/4/23

Thoroughly enjoy watching the Mercury play. They had entertainment at half time which was nice. Last game we attended 2 weeks prior was rather dead as there were no dancers, no half time entertainment no tee shirts thrown to crowd. A bit improved this time even though they lost
