Jeff Lynne's ELO in Concert

"It's nice to have songs in your catalog that stand the test of time." So says creator Jeff Lynne about one of the most cherished troves in the history of pop music. As the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who masterminded the Electric Light Orchestra (or ELO for short), the Birmingham-bred Lynne created a fabulously futuristic yet eminently engaging series of hit albums and singles that may be just as thrilling to new generations of listeners as they were to the millions who bought them during ELO's original run from 1970 to 1986. Indeed, thanks to these songs' presence on the soundtracks for movies like ‘American Hustle' and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' it feels like ELO's hardly been away.

Yet until the new revival, ELO had been dormant since 1986, Lynne resurrecting the band only briefly for the 2001 album ‘Zoom.' Lynne stayed busy with solo albums and production work for friends like George Harrison and Tom Petty, two legends who'd join him alongside the late Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan in the Traveling Wilburys. Then the release of a new compilation in 2012 — ‘Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra' — spurred Lynne and original ELO member Richard Tandy to perform a benefit concert at London's Apollo. It led to a much grander return for BBC Two's Hyde Park Festival in 2014, with all 50,000 tickets selling out in 15 minutes. "That felt like I was breaking through a barrier," said Lynne of the end of ELO's long hiatus as a live act. The triumphs continued with a medley of "Evil Woman" and "Mr. Blue Sky" at the 2015 Grammy Awards, a historic concert at England's iconic Wembley Stadium in 2016, and ELO's 2017 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With the help of musical director Mike Stevens and 13 players, Jeff Lynne continues to bring the ELO experience to audiences worldwide in a two-hour show that includes such classics as "Evil Woman," "Strange Magic," and "Livin' Thing." Fans can also enjoy more unexpected pleasures like "Do Ya" by The Move, the ‘60s rockers that first teamed Lynne and his ELO cofounder Roy Wood, and the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." The new ELO songs Lynne wrote and recorded for ‘Alone in the Universe' (2015) prove that one of pop's most celebrated craftsmen has not lost his Midas touch.

One of the best shows of my life

by aspeer70 on 4/25/20State Farm Arena - Atlanta

I have loved ELO my whole life, but never had a chance to see them until now. The show exceeded my greatest expectations. The band played brilliantly, Jeff Lynne can still sing every song note-for-note, and the sound mix was unbelievably clear for a arena show.

I WAITED MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THIS!!

    by Marc H. on 3/8/20

I was born in 1974, so ELO has been there ever since. I grew listening to this band and seeing them live my first time in Portland, OR, Summer 2019. It was the best show I've ever saw, and I've seen hundreds. It was emotional for me because ELO is my early childhood, adolescence, and now middle aged life. I will remian a lifelong fan as long as I breathe. Jeff is a musical genuis and I will forever be grateful for his timeless music. I will also make it a point to go see them again when they come back. I'm going for front row every time I can. You haven't lived until you've sang Livin Thing with an arena full of people. It felt like I was goin' to Church and coming home to Jesus. Just spiritual. The energy was amazing! I found my drug.

    Too fantastic to rate!

    by Mimi on 1/4/20

Saw Jeff Lynne/ELO with my family in 2018. ELO was a huge party of my life growing up in NYC in the 70s and 80s and still play on! The songs never grow old, they remain timeless. They are upbeat, meaningful as well as sentimental. This concert was one of the top concerts of my lifetime, worldwide. Please go out on tour again!! We need Jeff and ELO in our world!

    ELO in Amsterdam

    by S. S. on 11/3/19

When we learned Jeff Lynne was playing in Amsterdam during our 2016 trip to the Netherlands, I had to get Tickets. I created an account on ticketmaster.nl and scored a couple third row seats. There are no words to describe the ELO experience Jeff has put together. It’s a complete audio/visual overload. Laughing, crying, you’ll go though the full range of emotions because his music and show presentation is so professional. We will be planning our 2020 tour around his schedule and hope to connect again. Make every effort to see one of his shows. You wont be sorry!

This is by far the best concert I had ever seen. The light show was out of this world and the songs the sound were amazing. When It was over I wanted to see it again the next day. Can't get enough of ELO.

    Pittsburgh Final

by Deelava777 on 9/17/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

As always, ELO was fantastic in every way! Loved it! Only wished the venue had offered the ELO Specialty drinks the way Philly did in 2018. It was great.

    Hit After Hit

    by J. H. on 8/28/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

It shouldn't be surprising that I forgot how many great songs ELO have. They coupled this with a pretty killer laser show, like it was the 1970s again. Coolest was when he had Dhani Harrison, George's son and concert opener, join him onstage to sing a Traveling Wilbury song. I felt an impulse to buy a ticket to this concert and questioned myself later. But, I was correct all along. Fantastic show.

    Incredible

    by sleepy cat on 8/16/19

I cannot stop thinking about this concert. It was amazing. I've been listening to ELO since the 70s. When I saw the concert was coming here, I knew I had to go. I literally starting crying at this concert for many reasons. I know he probably will never come back, it brought me back to years of listening to this music, the awesome collection of songs Jeff has, the energy of everyone on stage, the incredible band and vocals, This was one of the best nights I've had at a concert ever. I'll never forget this and I wish I could go again. If he was playing in another state, I would consider flying there, just to see him again. I loved this concert. I hope Jeff knows how many people love his music. I wish I could tell him personally

    Wild West Hero Light Show

by matthew on 8/16/19Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

Was looking forward to this concert for sometime. Came from Porterville(3 1/2 hours away) to Sacramento with my uncle and were treated to one of the best concerts we've been to. Dhani Harrison was a great opening act for Jeff Lynne's ELO. Excellent songs that went right along with the laser light show.

    Amazing@

    by S. B. on 8/15/19United Center - Chicago

The show and seats were amazing! The Silver VIP experience exceeded expectations. The "hot & cold hors d'oeuvres" -- NOT! How's about a succulent turkey breast carvery with whole green beens, 2 pasta choices and 2 sauces, a huge variety of desserts and separate table of various munchies (and others not mentioned)! The service & bar was great, fun pics too! It did not disappoint! (I was just disappointed that I had eaten beforehand). The concert was even better than expected -- a treat for the ears and eyes. Entertaining and impressive music, stage set up and performance complimented by an equally impressive laser light show... Great memories!

Go see him if get the chance!!

by Oso on 8/14/19Nationwide Arena - Columbus

Phenomenal concert, one of the best in my lifetime, sure Lynn’s voice isn’t as strong and enduring as it used to be, but the guy is 71!!! He’s a perfectionist and it shows in every part of his show, the tightness of his band, the light show and graphics, and the music! Saw him in 76, and this show was much better! Go if you get a chance!

    Best Concert Ever!

by jorapope on 8/10/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

This was the best concert I have been to ever! They played for 2 hours straight and I knew every song. I was glad Jeff sang a song from his Alone in the Universe album. When I saw that Dhani Harrison was his start up band I thought wouldn't it be great if he sang one of the Traveling Wilbury's songs with Jeff and it happened. That really made my night. Jeff, Thank you for touring in the United States.

by Concert Steve on 8/9/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I'll take a ride on Jeff Lynne's spaceship any day. A fantastic show with almost all of the songs you'd want to hear and they're performed to perfection. The only downside was that it wasn't longer. Awesome, awesome show.
