British hard rock pioneers Deep Purple hold the distinction of being named "the globe's loudest band" by the Guinness Book of World Records, with no signs of quieting down nearly half a century after their debut. Widely acknowledged as one of the hardest touring bands in rock and roll, Deep Purple continue to bring an impressive wall of sound to their live shows, powering through epic anthems like "Smoke on the Water" and "Black Night" with the same vigor and energy that carried them to superstardom in the early '70s. Riding high on the 2013 release of their 19th studio album Now What, the band will live up to their reputation with another high-octane tour in 2014.
Formed in the late '60s as a supergroup comprised of several notable British musicians, Deep Purple made their album debut in 1968 with Shades of Deep Purple. The album was a hit in the US thanks to a popular cover of Joe South's "Hush," resulting in a gig supporting Cream on their farewell tour. Follow-up album The Book of Taliesyn was equally well-received, but it wasn't until a lineup change in the early '70s that the band achieved significant breakthrough success, topping charts around the world with Fireball (1971) and Machine Head (1972). Machine Head would prove especially significant, going on to become the band's top-selling album and the vessel for hard rock classic "Smoke on the Water," one of the most widely taught and covered guitar songs in history. Over the course of 19 studio albums and more than 30 live albums, the band has remained an indomitable touring force, continuing to thrill fans with their electrifying performances on tour.
I’ve been a fan of Deep Purple since the 70’s. They still rock!!!! Great venue and music. We had an awesome time!
This was my first show at the Mahaffey and it was awesome. The sound, the seats, the staff all A+. Deep Purple still ricks and the sound is there. Thanks to both parties for a wonderful experience.
They played all their top hits which are now all iconic songs! Must see show! Highly recommended!
The opening band - Georgia Thunderbolts were good but nothing special. Deep Purple rocked as hard as anyone I've ever seen. Musically they were dead on!!! Ian's voice was good but had a hard time with the higher notes. But a great show.
The music was spectacular and it was nice to relax and enjoy the concert without worrying about your surroundings.
Loved the show. Sound was mixed extremely well. Not too loud, not too low and you could clearly and distinctly hear all the instruments and the singer's voice. Very well mixed. They played many of their greatest hits.....Smoke on the Water, Lazy, Highway Star, Perfect Stranger to name a few. I would strongly recommend any "Purple fan" to go see them before they retire. 4 of the 5 members are 70+ and you will never know when they may decide to retire for good. Overall, great show, great sound and after 50+ years of rockin', Deep Purple still rocks the crowd. Don't miss a great show from some of the original Rock-n-Roll gods.
Non-stop music!! Was awesome to see musicians from different genres playing and enjoying all others and even performing with each other! The finale when all were playing together ROCKED!!!! Not enough words to express what a great time and experience this was!!!!!!!!! Thank you ALL!!!
They were more heavy metal than I remembered. They were good.
The opportunity to see Deep Purple at the Tower Theater, was an incredible experience. The chance to see my hero's up close and personal not to mention their incredible sound was exciting to say the least. There set was everything a Deep Purple fan could have wanted. The visual component only added to the musical performance. I for one was so glad to have had the opportunity to see Deep Purple at this point in their career and the chance to see them in this small venue.
I really enjoyed the Armory. Easy access to parking. Restrooms were modern. I like have a bar on every level. Our seats were very comfortable.
Finally got to see these rock icons who still put on a great show. Saw Stevd Morse the night before with flying colors. Hes a monster guitarist. I was really most impressed though with keyboardist Don Airey. He in every way lived up to the legacy of Jon Lord.the set was a little short at 90minutes but what do you expect from 65+ yr. Olds. Lol. Perfect Strangers rocked!
This was an excellent concert!! My husband and I both agreed this is the best venue we've ever seen any concert. Sound was great, seats were great oh, venue was absolutely beautiful. Parking was very affordable as well. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!! We would definitely go to more shows here for the right price.
The Venue was cool, the band rocked out. I liked the graphics.
It was great I was blown away! There was no Hush about it. Cool Armory.
Easy parking. Easy access to seats. Kind of expensive shirts. I’ d add some food not just drinks. Overall fantastic experience.
Great venue. Awesome show. Classic rock band. Winning. Smoke on the Water and Hush to name just a few.
Armory Minneapolis excellent venue , great concert, good music, good acoustics, !! Recommend venue and Deep Purple
Played most of the hits. The venue was perfect for a concert.
This is the fourth concert I’ve attended at the Armory. Nothing but good things to say about the venue. Deep Purple didn’t disappoint!
Our experience at the Armory was excellent! We had Club Level standing tickets on the 2nd floor and the sight lines and sound were perfect. It was nice to also have our own bar and bathrooms up there. The band was excellent. Overall a great experience!
