About

British hard rock pioneers Deep Purple hold the distinction of being named "the globe's loudest band" by the Guinness Book of World Records, with no signs of quieting down nearly half a century after their debut. Widely acknowledged as one of the hardest touring bands in rock and roll, Deep Purple continue to bring an impressive wall of sound to their live shows, powering through epic anthems like "Smoke on the Water" and "Black Night" with the same vigor and energy that carried them to superstardom in the early '70s. Riding high on the 2013 release of their 19th studio album Now What, the band will live up to their reputation with another high-octane tour in 2014.

Formed in the late '60s as a supergroup comprised of several notable British musicians, Deep Purple made their album debut in 1968 with Shades of Deep Purple. The album was a hit in the US thanks to a popular cover of Joe South's "Hush," resulting in a gig supporting Cream on their farewell tour. Follow-up album The Book of Taliesyn was equally well-received, but it wasn't until a lineup change in the early '70s that the band achieved significant breakthrough success, topping charts around the world with Fireball (1971) and Machine Head (1972). Machine Head would prove especially significant, going on to become the band's top-selling album and the vessel for hard rock classic "Smoke on the Water," one of the most widely taught and covered guitar songs in history. Over the course of 19 studio albums and more than 30 live albums, the band has remained an indomitable touring force, continuing to thrill fans with their electrifying performances on tour.

Deep Purple Concert St. Petersburg Florida

by DeepBlue on 2/23/23Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

Concert was excellent. Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Simon McBride and Don Airey - simply rocked. Legends that live on and have contributed so much to the music community. Ian Gillan teaches masterclasses on drums for all aspiring drummers. Souvenir sales could have used more staffing to limit time in lines otherwise the experience was flawless.

    Way too short

by Deepest Purple on 2/16/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

An hour and 15 minutes, I know they’re old but come on! Take an intermission or something, give the people what they paid for. I had the cheap seats in the balcony but if I would’ve paid over $300 then I would’ve been extremely pissed! I like Ian Gillian but his voice is gone unfortunately

    A Night With Living Legends

by Mitch Connor on 2/15/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

Deep Purple we’re phenomenal as always, this was my fourth time seeing them. The band was on fire, and Ian Gillan (singer) was very enthusiastic. If you haven’t seen Purple live, make it part of your bucket list!

Wished I had seen Deep Purple in the 70’s but loved them then and love them now. Disappointed they didn’t play Woman from Tokyo which is one of my favorites. Opened with Highway Star which was awesome.

    Georgia Thunderbolts are the future

by CM on 2/15/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

First time at Mahaffey theater. Quite an impressive venue, great mix and acoustics for such a large space. Tickets were a bit expensive for what was a relatively short show. Its exciting to say ive seen Deep Purple but top to bottom wasnt impressed with their performance especially compared to their opening act The Georgia Thunderbolts who were cut way to short to be honest at 30 minutes. And Deep Purple didn’t actually play all that long either especially considering tickets started at $60. I felt like i paid a lot more for the venue than the actual show itself.

Deep Purple still has it al! 70’s band still rockin in their 70’s! Played all the great classics and brought back great memories from 50 years of rock. Very much worth seeing before it’s too late!

    Great music, short concert

by Big Jerry on 2/15/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

As a veteran of over 400 concerts, the Deep Purple concert on 2/12 was technically a great show. The band played all their hits and sounded great…. But for 2 good seats in the orchestra section at 600+$ and the band leaving the stage at 60 minutes for an encore, then returning to play for another 15 minutes I would have to say this show truly lacked value.

They opened with Highway Star and ended with Hush!

by Lost in Jersey on 2/15/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

From Jersey tripping in FL and thought what a great bday present while traveling and celebrating. St Petersburg was a great lil town to find good food and drink. The Mahaffrey Theater is beautiful. The people were kind. Seeing Deep Purple there was the best. The sound was great. We had never been there so I wasn’t sure about out seats, I usually get last row so I can rock out without making anyone angry. I don’t think there is a bad seat in the house. Birthday celebrating with Deep Purple doesn’t get much better.
