About

British hard rock pioneers Deep Purple hold the distinction of being named "the globe's loudest band" by the Guinness Book of World Records, with no signs of quieting down nearly half a century after their debut. Widely acknowledged as one of the hardest touring bands in rock and roll, Deep Purple continue to bring an impressive wall of sound to their live shows, powering through epic anthems like "Smoke on the Water" and "Black Night" with the same vigor and energy that carried them to superstardom in the early '70s. Riding high on the 2013 release of their 19th studio album Now What, the band will live up to their reputation with another high-octane tour in 2014.

Formed in the late '60s as a supergroup comprised of several notable British musicians, Deep Purple made their album debut in 1968 with Shades of Deep Purple. The album was a hit in the US thanks to a popular cover of Joe South's "Hush," resulting in a gig supporting Cream on their farewell tour. Follow-up album The Book of Taliesyn was equally well-received, but it wasn't until a lineup change in the early '70s that the band achieved significant breakthrough success, topping charts around the world with Fireball (1971) and Machine Head (1972). Machine Head would prove especially significant, going on to become the band's top-selling album and the vessel for hard rock classic "Smoke on the Water," one of the most widely taught and covered guitar songs in history. Over the course of 19 studio albums and more than 30 live albums, the band has remained an indomitable touring force, continuing to thrill fans with their electrifying performances on tour.

    Deep Purple Rocks

by ancientrocker46 on 6/14/11Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

The show was great. Steve Morse was awesome on guitar. The venue, as always, was wonderful, although I would still like to see more variety at the food vendors there, in particular, since there are very limited restaurant facilities nearby. And, the best part was, that much like the original event at Woodstock, we had a nice downpour during the concert and didn't have to worry about being 'conked on the head' as a result of being near the crane area.

    Deep Purple Show was great!

by pacabn on 6/14/11Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

Thouroughly enjoyed the show. The band seemed to enjoy playing and even though Ian Gillan has lost some of that famous screaming voice it still was a good concert. Not bad for a 67 year old man!

    Sweet like jello

by Richnamaga01 on 6/14/11Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

I've always wanted to see DP, I missed them in 76. This show was different. Great yes...different in the way that DP was playing with a orchestra. I mean with this orchestra their music sounded fuller, deeper like JELLO. And oh yeah Heavy. Steve, both Ians, Don and Me Steve ALL sounded Ausome. Yeah Gillians voice cracked a couple of times but he still amazed me. Rock on Brothers

Glad I had the chance to see them

Smoke on the Water still rocks. Steve Moss kept up with a symphony, the keyboard player is a virtuoso and the old guy can still hit the high notes impressively.

    Purple Power

by KAZ100 on 6/14/11Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic City

Although the band did begin the performance late, I still loved it! I had never been to this venue before ( Tropicana casino, AC); but it was a super place to see any show. Deep Purple can still rock hard even after all these years.

The band was great as usual. Ian Gillian voice aint what it used to be. I aint what I used to be either. With the orchestra just added another dimension to the show. I love DP. First concert I ever went to in 1973. Burn. Haven't missed one since. Long Live Rock n Roll.

Deep Purple song selection was wornout.

by CarmenSound on 6/13/11Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic City

Let me preface this by saying that Purple is my favorite band... With Ian's voice not what it used to be, I was hoping to hear a bit more newer stuff from "Banana's" and "Rapture". There were 3 or 4 songs in the set that just didn't do anything and didn't go anywhere. The orchestra was a nice touch but really didn't amount to more than playing along with the band. I was expecting some new arrangements or possibly a break down of a song that was only the orchestra...Child in Time comes to mind. I was glad to be able to see them after such a long break from the states and Ian looked genuinely happy to have a crowd respond to him. I wish they would do a survey from their fans on what they would want to hear them play.

    DP in AC

by AMERENDIN on 6/13/11Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic City

DP with the Orchestra was really unique. Sound was good. The only minus, they didn't play my favorite song 'Pictures of Home' for I don't know what reason.

    Great Show- Ran the Gamut!!

by BOP1953 on 6/13/11Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic City

Deep Purple continue to impress with their classic catalog of rock standards. The show ran the gamut, from Hush, through classic Purple and included some of the newer, recently released material. Backed by a full orchestra, the interplay was well done especially during "Contact Lost" as Steve Morse's guitar soared between the instruments and allowed for the full emotional effect of the piece. Save for a couple of drunken louts seated directly behind us, who would not shut up for the entire show, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I for one was glad to see the band again. Don't miss the tour if you haven't seen them for awhile, you won't be disappointed!!

    Deep Purple

    by MrMusic1 on 6/6/11Casino Rama - Orillia

Deep Purple have been one of my favourite bands for years. The band smoked! The musicianship in this band is impeccable! They really featured Steve Morse & Don Airey quite a bit, & they were on top of their game! I'm a big Ritchie Blackmore & Jon Lord fan too, but I don't think you could find two better replacements than Mr.'s Morse & Airey. Roger Glover had tons of energy & Ian Paice was his usual impeccable self as well. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was Ian Gillan. It pains me to say that because he is one my all time favourite singers, but you could tell this is getting tougher on him. I give him credit for getting up there & doing what he does, but he's over 60 yrs old . Robert Plant & some others his age can't hit those high notes & screams anymore either. Still he had a great sense of humour & stage persona. Still really enjoyed the concert & the orchestra was fantastic as well

    As professional as ever!

by caciopeia on 6/6/11Casino Rama - Orillia

I saw Deep Purple in Toronto, six years ago, and today they sound as cohesive as ever! Yes, i miss Blackmore but Morse is as genius as always...i have had the fortune to see his show many times and he always...always delivers...yes I miss Lord...but his shoes has been left in good feet and hands! ian delivering his drums reminds me of one of the reasons why heavy rock came to the scene with his particular signature...loved it! Roger...he looks and acts as young as back in '75...i love his energy and kinestetics...and yes, Ian is still there! Wow! after all this years he is the professional of professionals. Yes, his voice is gone, but his heart is still there and hope will be there until he dies...because if I had his fortune I would keep doing what he is doing until the day I die...what a gig! Thank you Deep Purple....keep rocking...and hope to see you all again... Caciopeia
