Dear Evan Hansen on Tour

Continuing a national tour that kicked off in October 2018, the musical Dear Evan Hansen is proving no less enthralling a cultural phenomenon on the road as it became during its Tony-winning Broadway run. Deemed "one of the most evocative portraits of the inner turmoil of adolescence ever put on stage" by the Los Angeles Times, Dear Evan Hansen moves audiences as no other play has done in years. A seamless blend of memorable songs tied to a grippingly dramatic story, this emotionally gut-punching tale of the socially anxious title character's duplicitous transformation into a social-media hero is a rare example of a wholly original modern musical drawn from real life. Conceived by budding Broadway songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul — and based on an incident from Pasek's high school years — Dear Evan Hansen premiered at Washington's Arena Stage and had its Off Broadway debut at New York's Second Stage Theatre prior to its official Broadway opening at the Music Box Theatre in December 2016. Newcomer Ben Levi Ross, who began his professional career as the Broadway understudy for role originator (and Tony Award winner) Ben Platt, brings a different but no less moving skill set to his portrayal of the vulnerable and confused title character. Michael Greif, who won a Tony for his streamlined direction of the musical, continues to helm the production. Composers Pasek and Paul, along with book writer Steven Levenson, all earned Tonys for their efforts. (Pasek and Paul went on to win a best-picture Academy Award for their subsequent project, La La Land.) Songs from the musical — including Evan's first-act finale, "You Will Be Found," and his mother's second-act heart-tugger, "So Big/So Small" — have entered pop music's pantheon, and the original cast album won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2018. Projections of phone and computer screens designed by Peter Negrini make the show a timely reflection of technology's ambiguous grip on our attention and emotions. Not only for the young, Dear Evan Hansen has something meaningful to say to all who've ever considered themselves "on the outside always lookin' in."

Seen this show on Broadway in NYC just 4 years ago, and I thought this production was even better. Outstanding job playing Evan Hansen. I thought the set was even better than the NYC show. Overall, GREAT SHOW

    loved it!

by visited from Nashville on 5/30/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

This felt very pro from a production point of view, excellent sets, lights, sound, the computer screens were very slick too. We attended a Saturday matinee and our Evan Hansen started out with the understudy who was really great and then about halfway through the show they switched to another actor, not sure why but both did a great job. Excellent acting/singing all around.

    Great Show/Odd Experience

by Elyse on 5/30/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

Dear Evan Hansen was a wonderfully written show and well acted. However toward the beginning of the show, the main character's mic fell off but he quickly caught it and went on with a wonderful save. However, then a couple songs later, and it was announced that he main character would be changing to a different actor, and I almost felt I had to regroup to get back into the show. However, they did a great job recovering and continuing on with a great performance.

    I was found

    by L. O. on 5/28/23

It was an amazing show, venue was amazing, actors too, I was super excited to see Anthony Norman perform, but unfortunately he wasn’t there but the u/s was amazing, I was worried at first but then i read that he was an u/s for Evan on Broadway which made me feel better, better than any cast. And since it’s Memorial Day weekend a lot of people was on vacation, so the usher said sit wherever there is an empty seat, so we paid for a orchestra back right seat for 40, and we got orchestra front center that was worth 100 bucks.

I loved the casting for this show, I believe it was perfect, especially the guy who played Evan. Each scene was also choreographed in such a powerful way. I’ve been dreaming for seeing this show for years and give my experience an 1000/10!

Important Show for teens and parents

by SeanPsyD on 5/27/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

How could one not like a show that so resonates with social anxiety and depression many more teens are experiencing than parents are aware of, and also demonstrates the difficulties parents have in communicating and "reaching" their teens. Such an important show for even those that are not used to watching live theatre. Wish more teens and parents would see this show.

Great night of theater and music

by Mel on 5/27/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

My daughter and I purchased these tickets almost 1 year ago. This is a show she has always wanted to see. It did not disappoint. The “orchestra”/band was great. The first song started off on the weak side but wow… the cast really brought it and brought the story to life.

    Great show and cast….seats marginal.

by AJ on 5/27/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

The cast and show itself were fantastic! 5 stars for them! Would see it again. However, the seats themselves in this theater were really uncomfortable for a 3 hour show (the backs felt like they had no cushion). Also, if you have a really big guy sit in front of you (like I did) your entire view of mid-stage is gone — seats just aren’t elevated enough.

    Well worth the wait!

by Libby on 5/17/23Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

Our family was a bit late (almost too late) to the Dear Evan Hansen game but are true lovers of this show and finally got to see it! Worried we’d never see it in person, we drove a quick day trip from Maine to Syracuse and back on Mother’s Day in order to see this amazing show! It was worth every mile and the full 13 hours of car time. Thank you so much to the entire DEH cast and crew. We will never forget this show or experience.

    Matinee Magic

by Twist on 5/16/23Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

The cast was very relatable. The chemistry between the actors helped the story come alive. The sound system didn’t always keep up with the action.
