THE PREQUEL TO THE RECORD- SETTING, CHICAGO FAVORITE MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET
HEARTBREAK HOTEL follows the tender story of Elvis Presley in the early years of his burgeoning career as he and Sam Phillips create the music that will forever change their lives. As Elvis’s career skyrockets, both lifting and shattering the lives of those he loves, a secret love story is revealed, a betrayal is discovered, and “Colonel” Tom Parker changes the course of history, all in just 18 short months.
This brand new musical features hit songs from the King himself as well as the legends who influenced his iconic music, with chart-toppers including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Tutti Frutti,” “That’s All Right Momma,” “Shake, Rattle, and Roll,” and, of course, “Heartbreak Hotel.” This is where the story begins… “take a walk down lonely street.”
A good show, but Elvis could have been more convincing.
Top rate musical and cast! My 12 year old said it was the best play ever - he was singing along and enjoyed it immensely !
Not as good as Million Dollar Quartet. The message was a bit vague. The relationship with his high school sweetheart was at the core of the start of the show but in the end was merely a limited part of the show.
elvis was played by the understudy and he was very weak. his voice was fine, but his moves left much to be desired since elvis was KNOWN for his moves. the other singers were FABULOUS and strong. it was a shame.
The last few songs of second half we're great. The rest of the show, borring, dragging, not what I expected in a play about E. Presley
Show was fantastic. Definitely a must see. Venue was excellent.
The Elvis guy was ok but his part could of been better! But in my opinion the 2 black girls are power singers, to me without them the show would have been a boring play, those girls were the show, just wish I could’ve had the opportunity to meet them!!!
Loved all the music but story line was very weak. The fight for Elvis' s soul between Sam and the Colonel was good but other than that there was little to call a story. Throwing in his mother at the end was a cheap shot, could have been intertwined into the entire story. But like I said music was great.
Entertaining, informative, and fun glimpse into the life of Elvis Presley. The talented cast had us smiling and moving to the music the entire time--highly recommend to any music lover (not JUST Elvis fans)!
Overall great time! Loved the talent, great voices singing such wonderful songs.
Show was fun and support players were fabulous! High energy kept the theater rocking to all the songs. Only wish Elvis looked more like Elvis
Excellent music, great energy. A wonderful, fantastic show in every way. Well done!
The music is terrific, but there was no "there" there... not much of a story, and not much soul.. Enjoyed rocking out to Elvis at the encore.. which was the best part of the show.
Second act much better as more enjoyable songs; first act draggy.
Great cast, great show! This show should go on tour!!
totally unbelievable Had me on my feet the whole time. Actors and actresses were amazing and voices like you haven't heard. Should be on broadway.
Although the music of the era was well e used the Although the music was well executed, the book was weak and lacked engagement. Curtain call with the extra songs was the highly of the show.
Really enjoyed the show. The cast was great and the music was wonderful. The cast did an amazing job. I liked it so much that I could see it again! There is not a bad seat in the theater either! Like the small theater feel, we are usually at the other ones which are fine but this is quaint. I recommend Heart Break Hotel!
Really loved the show and the smaller theater. I would definitely recommend! Elvis did an amazing job!!
...the second half of the show has many of the hits Elvis fans of today will be familiar with. The actor who portrays Elvis does a credible job and has a good voice. Some of the other actors over- or under-acted their roles. We saw an understudy for the role of Sam Phillips who was quite good (one of the better actors in the ensemble). The storyline, which focuses on Elvis’ arrival to his early fame, was consistent-with the exception of a scene which features a medley of patriotic songs. This felt dropped into the sequence and was perhaps an attempt to be up to date politically but did not fit into the storyline. Additionally, there is no suggestion as to the back story on why young Elvis would fall so strongly under Colonel Parker’s spell.
