About

THE PREQUEL TO THE RECORD- SETTING, CHICAGO FAVORITE MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET

HEARTBREAK HOTEL follows the tender story of Elvis Presley in the early years of his burgeoning career as he and Sam Phillips create the music that will forever change their lives. As Elvis’s career skyrockets, both lifting and shattering the lives of those he loves, a secret love story is revealed, a betrayal is discovered, and “Colonel” Tom Parker changes the course of history, all in just 18 short months.

This brand new musical features hit songs from the King himself as well as the legends who influenced his iconic music, with chart-toppers including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Tutti Frutti,” “That’s All Right Momma,” “Shake, Rattle, and Roll,” and, of course, “Heartbreak Hotel.” This is where the story begins… “take a walk down lonely street.”

Amazing music performances from everyone. Acting blocking a little slow in places. It did not seem the actors were picking up ques. The best part, was the ending, ensemble was fantastic with Elvis music. Good experience overall.

    Heartbreak Hotel

by Showme86 on 8/28/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

While overall we enjoyed the show, we were disappointed at the blatantly gratuitous use of profanity. It added nothing to the story; it only detracted form the overall enjoyment of the show. The entertainers were incredibly talented singers. This was our first time at this theater, and we found it charming without a bad seat in the room.

The King's Spirit Was in the House

by PickyGuy on 8/27/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Great entertainment with superb singers and interesting information about Elvis' early years with Sam and Col. Parker, Sun and RCA, and the great "race" music (as it was called then) of the time. With front row seats, we could feel the energy and coolness and hostilities of the beginning of rock and roll. The performers, including Elvis, were phenomenal. They brought the style and the spirit of the music that moved me back then and still does today.

Great music, great Elvis, not so great story

by independentvoter on 8/27/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

It's the music I grew up with, and I can remember seeing Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show, my face practically glued to the little black and white screen. This production had an AMAZING actor/singer/dancer in the role of Elvis, and it was easy to watch him perform and be transported. He had the voice the moves and the lip. Thoroughly enjoyed his performance. The rest of the cast was good, some other standouts, but not all. And the story was not totally engrossing, especially the scenes around the high school sweetheart. If youre a crazy Elvis fan, you may be disappointed that there isn't enough music until the end of the play.

    Heartbroken Hotel

by Anonymous on 8/27/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The play was choppy and not as solid as Million Dollar Quartet...……..they did not play full songs all the way through. Too much focus on Coloner Parker and Dixie, Elvis' girlfriend. I wanted to hear Elvis full throttle, this was one was not close. More of a story line of how he took old Blues music and made it his own, with some skepticism on his authenticity. Was disappointed.

    Heartbreak Hotel very disappointing.

by Lakebyrd on 8/25/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

If you want to be talked to death, this is the show for you. Elvis sang three songs the first half. I didn’t come to have someone else feathered. Save your money.

It must be very hard to fill the shoes of a legend. Very small cast performing several roles. Great job by all.

    Early Elvis

by IndyInBaltimore on 8/24/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This show is the prequel to Million Dollar Quartet with the same producers. Elvis was amazing and most of the cast were great. The set was a little light on decor but you’re going for the Man. This is a small theater right off Michigan Ave next to 360Chicago. There are lots of places to eat before the show. Reasonably priced but the theater was half full. So worthwhile therefore you got to go!

The plot a little loose but the music very good. The refreshments dated—popcorn tasted like it was made last month. Seating and sound good.
