What an amazing experience to share with my son and extended family.
Great show for old school hip hop music and dance. Everyone was allowed to get involved with the music.
I actually saw the original Russian Nutcracker ballet as a child. However, I thought the Hip Hop Nutcracker would be a speaking play with dancing and singing, but it was all dancing. The dancers and the one female violinist were phenomenal, the DJ did a great job intertwining the modern music with the classical music and Curtis Blow was an excellent host.
If was definitely not what I expected. It claims to be family friendly event which it seriously was not. Please do not advertise as that. Brought my grandsons and daughters and none of us enjoyed it. Spent a lot of money for something not worth watching!!
The show was absolutely amazing. From beginning to end we loved every minute. The dancing was awesome.
Job well done!! The talent was amazing!! There was tons of energy and enthusiasm!! I would highly recommend to any and all!!!
Cost was fair for venue. Easy parking was in a garage under the event. Good security on entering. Elevators were crowded so had to take stairway two stories up. Seating was good in orchestra section. Easy to see over rows in front of me. Lighting and hearing were good.
I like the Hip Hop Nutcracker. My family enjoyed it as well. We attended with my Shia and five children (17,15,12,10, and 6). We saw it at NJPAC in Newark, NJ. The venue was beautiful. The seating was comfortable even though it was a full house. The performance was excellent. It encourages audience participation and was entertaining throughout. There is no dialogue but the expressiveness of the performers was so good that it was easy to follow the storyline which is slightly different from the original Nutcracker. I have a few critiques: 1. The performers perform hip-hop dances to the original Nutcracker Score. At times the dance seemed out of place with the dancing and vice versa. I was expecting the DJ to blend the original score with hip hop beats, but that only happened 2 or 3 times. 2. The dances seemed mostly repetitive. Maybe there could’ve been more group choreography. They relied mostly on b-boy style moves. I would recommend the show.
If you love Music, Dancing, Singing, and having FUN. This show is all that and more. The Legendary Kurtis Blow takes you down Hip Hop memory lane with all the greatest rap songs. The original Nutcracker story line and classical music is there just with a twist of Hip Hop flavor. The dancers and musicians are absolutely AMAZING! This is a must see show for the entire family. See you next year!
This is a fantastic show, good up beat dancing with the music of Tchaikovsky. Amazing work by the dancers a must see even if you are a classical dancer.
A must see entertainment for the entire family! Curtis Blow was the icing on the cake.
I enjoyed the show! The hip hop dancers were great. Kurtis Blow added flair to the show. Loved the oldies rap songs!
The show was a lot of fun and really engaged the audience. I really enjoyed the fresh take on the classic. The cast is really talented. The production quality wasn’t quite as tight as other shows but the relaxed staging is part of the appeal.
The music was not tge hip hop versions of the nut cracker music. The dance moves also were redundant and not very impressive. It didn't feel like a group of professionals dancers. I'm giving it two stars only because the host and DJ did well by playing some music to entertain us in the beginning before the performance started. The little girl with the voilin was great also.
This was an amazing performance! I wasn't sure what to expect, but oh my goodness, I would go see this time and time again. I loved that it was modern hip hop dance with the original nutcracker score. There is a modern storyline that felt natural. If you have the chance, please, go see this.
Although this show has spectacular dancing, it is not exactly as expected. I had expected that the nutcracker songs would have been sped up with more of a beat to them. It was very hard to watch hip hop dancing yet listen to tchicovsky music, for me it just didnt mix well. I still enjoyed the show and feel like this is a great idea but needs a change to the music. I brought my 11 yr old daughter and although she has danced multiple different genres since 3, she found it to be a tad boring and she just didnt fully understand the storyline. The embassy theater is such a beautiful venue and we hope to return for more shows in the future!
Loved the show. Took grandchildren to see it and they danced in their seats. Performers were very talented.
This is now a family classic for us and our kids. I love rocking to the old-school rap jams with my young kids.
I so much wanted to like it but this was about like a High School production. Just not good at all. Many people around us left at intermission. It was boring and I keep saying just not good because it wasn't I wanted to like it. Kurtis Blow came out for about 10 minutes hyped the crowd up and then left, as another reviewer wrote I should have left too. Don't waste your time or money.
The staff was awesome from the parking attendants to the staff working inside DPAC. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. They made maneuvering throughout DPAC very easy. The show was amazing. I loved it! It was my first time seeing Hip Hop Nutcracker so I didn't know what to expect. Very entertaining. Great job staff and all cast members!
