KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD IN CONCERT:

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard sounds like a transmission from garage rock’s past heard over the crackling transistors of a handheld radio. The lo-fi septet is certainly an unusual assembly -- three guitarists, two drummers, a bassist, and a harmonica player -- but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They wrap ticket buyers in an intoxicating haze with the can’t-help-but-sing-along hooks and fuzz-laden guitar riffs that abound on both straightforward singles like “Cellophane” and spacey epics like “Head On/Pill”. Fans looking for classic garage rock and psychedelia sounds played with youthful enthusiasm will eat up the bizarre sonic gumbo that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard serve up whenever they go on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Melbourne, Australia garage rock septet King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard began in 2010 as the side project of an adventurous group of musicians. But Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Joe Walker (guitar), Cook Craig (guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/ vocals), Eric Moore (drums/theremin), Michael Cavanagh (drums), and Lucas Skinner (bass) soon found that they preferred the fruitful experimentation that resulted from that one-off jam to their regular gigs. The group debuted on wax with 12 Bar Bruise in 2012, followed by Eyes Like the Sky a scant five months later. The group has maintained this breakneck pace, though they always add fresh twists to their signature style. For example, their critically acclaimed 2015 album Quarters featured four psychedelic jams that were all exactly 10:10 long. Their fearless creativity has made them a popular live act, and their garage rock sing-alongs and psychedelic rave-ups have thrilled audiences around the world.

    Pretty Solid

by Ukrus on 8/29/19Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Venue is great, love the Aragon but line was longest I’d seen to get in. Guess Gizzard doesn’t have many North American shows so it’s was PACKED. Could have accommodated that better, but it’s a minor complaint. Plentiful staff, never waited more than a minute for a beer, or to use the restroom either for that matter. Missed the opening act waiting in line and buying merch (mercy selection was lacking a bit), second band “Orb” was fine, not inspired to see them again but didn’t dissatisfy me in any way. King Gizzard put on a good show, played some new album, was happy to see classics like Evil Death Roll, I’m In Your Mind, and Rattlesnake. Parking was easy too, to be honest. Overall pretty solid event, would go again.

At the top of their game

    by M. on 8/28/19REBEL - Toronto

Angry environmentalist thrash metal concept album, from a band with a prolific history of genre-bending releases. You have to see it to get it; just buy the tickets.

Mindblowing. Blew the mindfuzz right away.

by Lissa G. on 8/21/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

King Gizz releases concept album after concept album and is known for their trippy, mesmerizing visuals at their shows. This was no exception, and was possibly one of the top five concerts I've ever attended (I speak as a 37 year old with lots of live music going experience). They played a few songs from Infest the Rat's Nest, some from Flying Microtonal Banana, and other albums. They played some of my favorites, such as "Crumbling Castle", "The Great Chain of Being", and way more gems. I think they are the Tool of this generation, or the Pink Floyd of my parents' generation...or maybe Black Sabbath?

    Super Bad Ass

by OnehungaJones on 8/21/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Crazy good! I wasn’t super familiar with their full discography walking in... didn’t matter. The raw positive energy and moshy funky fun was contagious & their masterful musicianship was undeniable. They rocked the absolute hell out of the Paramount! One of the best live shows I’ve seen in a while, & I’ve seen some really good ones. Consider me a converted hardcore fan. King Gizz is for real!

    They Were legendary

by GregZONIC on 5/23/16Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

My first ever concert, I know concerts were supposed to get hype, but this, this was something else. First off all three bands were pure amazing(Only having heard 2 of the three). I was front and center hugging the stage, I got a good view, some good pics, good vibe, and most of all good freaking time. WOULD DO IT AGAIN. P.S. Mind Meld You guys are gonna get big I know it!

    All Hail the King

by Saltybran on 5/23/16Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

The energy these guys put into their show is amazing. It flows through every person lucky enough to be in the same room. No encore which was kind of a bummer, but after playing non-stop for almost 2 hours makes up for that.

    Best show I've ever seen.

by Snarskio on 5/17/16Bowery Ballroom - New York

This is a band I will ALWAYS see live no matter what day, time, venue. They bring the most high octane energy I've ever seen and I've never had a bad time. I even brought two friends to the show who have never seen them and they both loved it. Not seeing this band is doing a disservice to yourself.
