KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD IN CONCERT:
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard sounds like a transmission from garage rock’s past heard over the crackling transistors of a handheld radio. The lo-fi septet is certainly an unusual assembly -- three guitarists, two drummers, a bassist, and a harmonica player -- but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They wrap ticket buyers in an intoxicating haze with the can’t-help-but-sing-along hooks and fuzz-laden guitar riffs that abound on both straightforward singles like “Cellophane” and spacey epics like “Head On/Pill”. Fans looking for classic garage rock and psychedelia sounds played with youthful enthusiasm will eat up the bizarre sonic gumbo that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard serve up whenever they go on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Melbourne, Australia garage rock septet King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard began in 2010 as the side project of an adventurous group of musicians. But Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Joe Walker (guitar), Cook Craig (guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/ vocals), Eric Moore (drums/theremin), Michael Cavanagh (drums), and Lucas Skinner (bass) soon found that they preferred the fruitful experimentation that resulted from that one-off jam to their regular gigs. The group debuted on wax with 12 Bar Bruise in 2012, followed by Eyes Like the Sky a scant five months later. The group has maintained this breakneck pace, though they always add fresh twists to their signature style. For example, their critically acclaimed 2015 album Quarters featured four psychedelic jams that were all exactly 10:10 long. Their fearless creativity has made them a popular live act, and their garage rock sing-alongs and psychedelic rave-ups have thrilled audiences around the world.

this show and venue were perfect. everything went super smooth and they even let me donate my extra ticket to the line just in case someone lost theirs. the sound was amazing and king gizz was absolutely phenomenal. one of the best shows i have ever seen. can’t believe they killed a 3hr marathon show
i live in the lake nearby, and had eagle death at this show
Seeing King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard live was like hearing some of my favorite songs the way they were meant to be heard. The band did a great job keeping the energy going and making the most out of every song. They left such an impression on me that I've been listening to them nonstop since the show.
Just amazing show all around. Energy was electric, was still feeling energized the morning after!
According to the venue, artist are requesting all patrons to wear mask unless enjoying a beverage… everyone with a brain is over it. My brother & I were extremely excited to go and decided not to. I’ve been a big goer of shows at the Rialto but will probably avoid it forever now.
I must be a novice...I met Stu the afternoon of they're show. He was coming out of the venue with his wife and daughter. He was more than happy to take a selfie with me! I guess I just underestimated how awesome they would be alive... What a show! I was certainly blown away!
So, I bought these tickets for an ex.. decided I’d check it out & sold my Xtra outside. I have always loved the Rialto and Tucson in general and now I am the newest KGATLW fan!! It might’ve had a bit to do with free party favors from a lovely bloke but no.. This band is so on point I cannot even describe it. If they come to your town sell a kidney if you have to, just go!
From the variety of songs, sounds, and a plethora of records to choose from, the Gizz never disappoint. A blistering set mixed with thrash metal, dreamy synths, and high octane jams it’s one of the best bands you can see live.
These guys are so great at each style they approach. A great melting pot of psychedelic, pop, jazz fusion, heavy metal or whatever they are feeling like. If you know the band you know they have a very diverse sound, as for the live show, they break it up into segments (probably to limit instrument changes, but works well for the flow of the set). My only regret was they didn’t play Rattlesnake, but with a discography as big as theirs you can only expect to hear so many songs in one show. Regardless of song choice, the music is excellent and they put on a great show!
May not be the most popular opinion but frankly, I felt the show lacked the variety which makes King Gizz interesting. Maybe they just played more material that I didn’t like or wasn’t familiar with but I found the show overall just alright.
I’ve never been to a more poorly hosted how. The show and door times on the tickets and website was wrong. I would’ve missed the show if I didn’t drive in a couple hours early for dinner and happen to see the correct showtimes on the band’s Instagram. Worse yet, the venue was so slow to admit people that the line was several blocks long by the time the doors opened and we missed the entire first band after standing in line for over an hour. Even once we were in, the show wasn’t very good because the sound engineering seemed as though it was deliberately bad. The bands were actually complaining to the engineer in the middle of the show.
Band was great, and super nice when I got the chance to meet them after the show. Pit was a bit scary (felt genuinely unsafe at times), but that's mostly my fault for going there for the first place. I though Gizz fans were all awkward and nerdy like me, but I guess I stand incorrect. Getting knocked around a bit is part of the deal though, so I can't complain too much. Enough whining: the set was incredible and the employees were great as well, considering all the people they had to deal with. Glad I went and I highly recommend. Tabernacle is such a cool, unique venue.
Incredible show. Amazing sound, lights and performance. Respectful and rowdy crowd. What more can you ask for??
If you find my face, please return it to me, Tony Gizzman
Amazing tracklist. They played all my favourite songs.
I've been listening to King Gizz for a few years now and their shows never cease to amaze me. So much energy on stage that it permeates into the crowd no matter where you are. With the wide variety of styles from album to album, you never know what you're going to get. I will see them every chance I get.
Staff was great, the bathrooms clean, security was visible and professional but not necessary for the most part. Concessions and merch lines were a little chaotic. The hall got extremely, possibly dangerously hot which didn't make sense because the day wasn't that hot and the show started at 8:30 PM. I would definitely go there again for a show.
2nd time seeing KG&TLW and even better. They're tight, engaging, they mix it up yet keep it pumped. Orb and the all female band were excellent opening acts. Both provided great stoner groove psych fuzz for an enthusiastic audience. I took my nephew and he loved it (he was already into KG&TLW) he liked the openers too. Once again, i cant get over how nice but moshy the crowd was. We're looking forward to next year's show. Thanks to the bands and XPN for -again- spotting a good band to host.
Outside of the fact that the venue was insanely hot. I will go out of my way to see king gizzard again. Sound was awesome and the stage show was amazing
