KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD IN CONCERT:

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard sounds like a transmission from garage rock’s past heard over the crackling transistors of a handheld radio. The lo-fi septet is certainly an unusual assembly -- three guitarists, two drummers, a bassist, and a harmonica player -- but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They wrap ticket buyers in an intoxicating haze with the can’t-help-but-sing-along hooks and fuzz-laden guitar riffs that abound on both straightforward singles like “Cellophane” and spacey epics like “Head On/Pill”. Fans looking for classic garage rock and psychedelia sounds played with youthful enthusiasm will eat up the bizarre sonic gumbo that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard serve up whenever they go on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Melbourne, Australia garage rock septet King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard began in 2010 as the side project of an adventurous group of musicians. But Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Joe Walker (guitar), Cook Craig (guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/ vocals), Eric Moore (drums/theremin), Michael Cavanagh (drums), and Lucas Skinner (bass) soon found that they preferred the fruitful experimentation that resulted from that one-off jam to their regular gigs. The group debuted on wax with 12 Bar Bruise in 2012, followed by Eyes Like the Sky a scant five months later. The group has maintained this breakneck pace, though they always add fresh twists to their signature style. For example, their critically acclaimed 2015 album Quarters featured four psychedelic jams that were all exactly 10:10 long. Their fearless creativity has made them a popular live act, and their garage rock sing-alongs and psychedelic rave-ups have thrilled audiences around the world.

    What's up Woodstock!?

by Calvin on 6/20/23Carnation Farms - Carnation

A ridiculous event planning feat is pulled off by patient event staff and cooperative fans. Security was a bit loose and overextended on the large and open farm, but a well behaved group of loyal fans ensured a safe and inviting atmosphere to enjoy the sopping wet festivities

    KGLW at Remlinger Farms

by Product Relapse on 6/20/23Carnation Farms - Carnation

King Gizzard put on a phenomenal show as always and Remlinger Farms proved to be an awesome venue! Rain cover was a bit of an issue but there were a few trees in their field to stand under. Definitely watch the weather if you plan on attending an event there, overall a great show!

    Best thing I've ever seen

by Dave C on 6/20/23Remlinger Farms - Carnation

Saw King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard for the first time, and immediately made sure I would see them the next two nights as well, as they don't repeat songs on consecutive shows in a city. Even though their music is so structurally technical and spans virtually all genres, their live show sounded almost recording-quality. They will go down in history as some of the greatest musicians of our generation. I will never not see them if they're playing local again. 11/10. I am a proud member of the weirdo swarm now, and always will be.

    GILA! GILA! GILA!

    by J. C. on 6/20/23Carnation Farms - Carnation

Easily got the heaviest (and in my opinion best) setlist of the three days in Carnation, WA (middle day, 6/17). Rain didn't even bother any of my friends I came with due to the steam and sweat coming off the pit. I've been making sure to see these nutters every time they come through town and they have failed to disappoint. Goofy band, big energy and you can feel their love of music. Their other fans are pretty easy to get along with too.

    Great!

by Middle on 6/20/23Carnation Farms - Carnation

Awesome show with a great opener at a gret venue! So much space, food, and drinks! Lots of clen portapotties. Very respectful crowd. Free ponchos for the unexpected rain. Still got soaked but it was awesome. Great timing - definitely long enough for the die hards and short enough to enjoy the entire show without knowing more than a couple songs! Setlist was set up so that the crowd got breaks from being rowdy. Amazing

    King Gizzard - Remlinger Farms

by Kimmy O on 6/19/23Carnation Farms - Carnation

KGLW was most excellent!!! Attended all 3 shows. First night they got the crowd warmed up(it was raining all 3 days at the farm) with mashing up grim reeper w/intergalactic by the Beastie boys, then the 2nd night the crowd was in a frenzy with Gila Monster and the incredible set. 3rd night was more of a mellow control with the Gizz playing older songs off of Float On Fill Your Lungs. The Gizz pulled it off again, and loved the venue. Very chill.

    Great show and venue

by JW on 6/18/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

Salt Shed is a cool smaller venue near the North Side along the river by Goose Island. Gizzard put on a decent show, they are great at what they do and incorporate many different elements and genres in their songs, they even played flute and saxophone on some songs. My only complaint is the crowd gets a bit rowdy sometimes, like you'd think you were at a heavy metal or punk show with the audience moshing and pushing and bumping into each other and there were times where you could easily fall over or get hurt if you aren't careful or go along with the crowd, I saw one person fall over in the pit. I just wanted to listen to the music without having the audience pushing and bumping into me constantly, but I guess thats the price you pay for standing near the front, luckily you can sort of avoid this if you go off to the side a little, but its a shame good center spaces near the front force you into the mosh or being pushed around, plus security seemed a bit unprepared for this kind of scale show at this venue, because they were rarely helping people out or passing much waters out. Also merch and lines were handled great, I feel like the lines moved faster than most Chicago venues of similar size. Salt Shed could end up being a great venue in the future if more bigger acts starting playing here instead of Northerly Island.

    Great venue, Amazing Band

by TeddiB on 6/16/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

It was a rainy cold summer night in Chicago, but that didn't stop King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizards from warming up the city views! Great band, so many different people from all age groups were rocking out and having a blast. Salt Shed is great and I'm sure a warm Chicago night will make that place one of the best in the city!
