KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD IN CONCERT:

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard sounds like a transmission from garage rock’s past heard over the crackling transistors of a handheld radio. The lo-fi septet is certainly an unusual assembly -- three guitarists, two drummers, a bassist, and a harmonica player -- but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They wrap ticket buyers in an intoxicating haze with the can’t-help-but-sing-along hooks and fuzz-laden guitar riffs that abound on both straightforward singles like “Cellophane” and spacey epics like “Head On/Pill”. Fans looking for classic garage rock and psychedelia sounds played with youthful enthusiasm will eat up the bizarre sonic gumbo that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard serve up whenever they go on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Melbourne, Australia garage rock septet King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard began in 2010 as the side project of an adventurous group of musicians. But Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Joe Walker (guitar), Cook Craig (guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/ vocals), Eric Moore (drums/theremin), Michael Cavanagh (drums), and Lucas Skinner (bass) soon found that they preferred the fruitful experimentation that resulted from that one-off jam to their regular gigs. The group debuted on wax with 12 Bar Bruise in 2012, followed by Eyes Like the Sky a scant five months later. The group has maintained this breakneck pace, though they always add fresh twists to their signature style. For example, their critically acclaimed 2015 album Quarters featured four psychedelic jams that were all exactly 10:10 long. Their fearless creativity has made them a popular live act, and their garage rock sing-alongs and psychedelic rave-ups have thrilled audiences around the world.

Amazing venue and show! KGLW killed it as always.

by Natalie on 6/16/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

Easy and and easy out of the salt shed, valet parking (salt shed parking) was perfect. Gizz sounded PHENOMENAL! Despite the rain, the show went on and was amazing. I can’t wait to see the next king gizz show and I hope they come back to the salt shed one day!

    Awesome show, great venue!

by Kevin J on 6/15/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

We had a blast, both sonically and visually! I was familiar with the music, but not much. I’m aware about the current tour. We all left extremely happy. I will never miss this band again.

Gizz is still the best band to see live, hands down

by Michi on 6/15/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

The salt shed was a great venue - it was perfect for their set. I went on day 2 of their shows, so the weather was great. Not sure how day 3 fared being outdoors, but for fair weather it was great! The food and drink options were great, and it never felt too crowded as indoors venues can sometimes feel. I’m absolutely going to their show next time they’re in the US. I’m not from Chicago so nbd if they don’t make it back to the salt shed, but that venue was great and I’d definitely see more shows if I lived in the area

Best Live Band in the WORLD

by Trey J on 6/15/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is EASILY the best live band in the world right now. This is coming from someone who sees a lot of shows annually. They are energetic, fun, loud, crazy, everything and anything you could want in a concert. Don't miss them as bands like this don't come around often!

    My first KGLW live experience

by PanicGirl on 6/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard put on a smokin hot run of three shows. They did TWO live debuts. The band was as energized as crowd and performed flawlessly. Even the blah weather couldn't take from experience. Will return, highly recommend. venue: Salt Shed, Chicago (outdoor stage) Very nice. Bathrooms are plentiful. Concert played indoors so you don't miss a beat. Limited number of food truck options, with free water in a couple of locations. Sound was pretty good - some reverb off building, stage left. Nice view of Chicago.

    Horrible

by Shaggy on 6/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

I am a huge KGATLW fan. The salt shed was the worse venue I have ever been at due to poor logistics planning on their end. It was horrible weather 47 out and they moved the show from inside to outside. I was freezing, and wet from the rain. Left with two songs left.

King Gizzard is absolutely the best band out there!

by Robo on 6/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

We went for the first two nights at the Salt Shed and the shows were incredible. There isn’t another band out there with this kind of energy and musicianship. I hoped to see them in the Salt Shed instead of outdoors at the fairgrounds, especially night 1 as the wind affected the sound a bit. Otherwise no complaints…great music, fine venue, and great crowd.

by King Gila on 6/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

If you have a chance to see King Gizzard. You should definitely go. Their show is magnificent and they play a different set every night. There’s so much great and incredible music they’re making. You don’t want to miss this show. If I could give them a six star review I would.

Lizards, Wizards, & Rowing Down the River

by Meg on 6/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

10/10 would do again. Even though the weather was trash, the show (and the venue) were still incredible. KGLW put on a killer show as usual. This was their first show I've been at that was standing room only, and it was a lot of fun to be a part of the movement of the crowd, especially when a group starting rowing - yes rowing - during "The River." A wild moment that I'll never forget, and one I'm almost certain I'll never witness again. Weirdo Swarm forever, baby!

    Amazing band

    by N. K. on 11/17/22

Saw them at the Masonic temple in Detroit on 10-16-22. Great venue and even better with them performing in it! Their set list wasn’t my favorite, it was kind of all over the place, but they sounded great and were lively despite having trouble with their amps in the beginning. Such a fun experience, and we already bought tickets for their USA Residency tour at the Chicago Salt Shed for all 3 days. Can’t wait!

    Their old songs are better

by Trappedin2017 on 10/30/22Orpheum Theater - New Orleans

Orpheum theater sounds not great for a band like this. I didn’t care for their new music it was boring to listen to. They’ve transformed into a jam band

    Awesome Band and Show!!!

by steveguion on 10/26/22The Anthem - Washington

King Gizzard was awesome!!! Such a cool band with it's own quirky style and sound. Rattle! Rattle! Rattle! I love The Anthem. First time ever seeing a show there. Great venue, but the price for parking at the nearby garage was outrageous. Talk about price gouging. Ouch!
