SHAKEY GRAVES IN CONCERT:
Stripped-down folk rock act Shakey Graves has long been a favorite in his native city of Austin, but lately he's been making waves far beyond the borders of the Lone Star State. Taking the stage with a jerry-rigged drum kit that includes a suitcase, Shakey Graves, a.k.a. Alejandro Rose Garcia, captivates audiences with a variety of idiosyncratic techniques including unexpected tempo changes, drastic register shifts, and his off-kilter lyric sensibility. Whether he's crooning on "Built to Roam" or creating an intricate percussion backdrop on "Roll the Bones", Shakey Graves always satisfies on his unforgettable tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Shakey Graves is the one-man band of Alejandro Rose Garcia, an actor turned singer-songwriter who launched the project in 2009 while living in Los Angeles. After cutting his teeth in LA's eclectic underground folk scene he returned to his hometown of Austin, TX, where he quickly became a huge local draw with his unique performances at venues on and around artsy Annie Street. In 2011 he released Roll the Bones, wowing critics with his creative, lo-fi take on traditional folk and receiving a nod from NPR, which named him one of ten artists fans "should've known in 2012." He followed up with the Donor Blues EP in 2012, a bluesy slice of poetic folk that drew another round of praise. As renowned for his one-man performances as he is for his recordings, Shakey Graves continues to stun on his must-see tours.
Love shakey and all of his band. He knows hows to preform and entertain. Everything about it, i loved. Lucius was awesome too!
Shakey is amazing!! He puts on an amazing show. My only issue is that the seating at this venue was so strange with tables where you are facing strangers and not the stage. Not set up the best to see the show!
Disappointed that he wasn’t a solo act. His band wasn’t very good. Stick with what you know. One of the worst concerns I’ve been to.
Except for having to deal w ticket master.....everything was amazing
Beautiful show! I love the acoustics at the Pageant. Cant wait for the next show.
It was terrible. Shakey Graves was awesome although we only got to see four songs. The people behind us talked the entire time loudly, after I ask them many times to quiet down they then proceeded to Crunch a beer can in my ear. We asked the manager Gina to have them move since they were standing and we were sitting in the last row. After three times of going to her and asking her we finally just left. I will never go there to see another concert the management is horrible. She could have solved it after I approached her about it the first time. It was my first concert there and my last.
I’ve been a fan since his Audiotree release several years ago, yet had never witnessed his live show. He carries a performance like a true star. As the opening act wound down, the power of Shakey Graves’ performance just filled the venue. Truly remarkable and something I have only witnessed a handful of times over hundreds of live shows. Venue prices were stiff ($16 beers anyone?), but they didn’t tarnish this bucket list performance from a truly talented artist.
Great concert!! The next morning not so good! To much celebrating!
The opening band was better. I left 5 songs into the show. They’re a decent bar band but not much more than that.
Totally surprised all of us with an incredible show. Loved their Pink Floyd covers.
I purchased tickets in the balcony area for the Shakey Graves show at the London Music Hall. Parking was easy to access and close the the entrance. Seats were fairly comfortable. Perfect view from forth row up. Aisle seats made it easy to come and go. Sound was perfect the whole show. Begonia was the opening act: powerful, clear voice. Shakey Graves did not disappoint at all. I'd take half a star off the review because drinks were so overpriced as expected.
The venue was great, the show was awsome. My friennd brought me to see them as i had never seen them before. It was a great way to be introduced to the band.
I got tickets to see Shakey because it was my best friend's birthday and she adores him. I knew a handful of his songs, but I was basically going in blind. In a way, I think that made the experience even better. Babe Club was the opening act, and I need to mention them, because they were fantastic. It's one of those bands you just know is gonna be huge before too long. Very happy to have found them. I got to meet them after the show and they were super cool. And then it was time for Shakey Graves. Based on the few songs I knew, I expected a chill, relaxed folky gig. Instead, I got psychedelic rockabilly. Mind-blowing music and staging, perfect vocal performance, and probably the best rock show I've been to in years. Can't wait to do it again. As for the venue, the Capitol Room was ideal: Large enough to fit a proper crowd, but somehow intimate enough to keep the performance personal. Bonus: My friend ran into Shakey casually strolling by before the show, and she said he was as cool as she'd hoped for, which made the show twice as good for her :)
Overall poor experience. Maybe I’m not a real fan for not knowing any songs, but he didn’t play any popular/well known classics and the acoustics were awful. Not worth the $200
The band was energetic and gave a great effort, but the mixture of influences lead to a confusing, disjointed performance.
Awesome show! Music was great, sounded good, lights/smoke were awesome, venue was cool, and opener was great! Shakey Graves is such a good entertainer and interacts with the crowd too. Very very talented and it was a great time!
Could do WITHOUT the continuous fog machine! The majority of the time couldn’t see the artist!
I am a great fan of both Jade Bird and Shakey Graves who I have seen at other venues. The combination was electric! Jade brings great, growly vocals, high energy, fast-paced songs and an authentically warm persona. Shakey and his band ranged from hard-rock to indie mysticism with phenomenal charisma and stage presence. (Great technical lighting and fog work as well!) Overall stunning performances. Knitting Factory is one of my favorite venues in Spokane for chill, friendly vibe and an open floor with up-close stage access. A+
We go see shakey graves every time he comes to town. This show was the best show of his I’ve ever seen, and the best show I’ve seen all year!! (I’ve been to 11 other shows so far) thiS reestablished my love for this artist.
Performance was great, but sound quality at the Wiltern was poor. Music and voices a blurred.
