SHAKEY GRAVES IN CONCERT:

Stripped-down folk rock act Shakey Graves has long been a favorite in his native city of Austin, but lately he's been making waves far beyond the borders of the Lone Star State. Taking the stage with a jerry-rigged drum kit that includes a suitcase, Shakey Graves, a.k.a. Alejandro Rose Garcia, captivates audiences with a variety of idiosyncratic techniques including unexpected tempo changes, drastic register shifts, and his off-kilter lyric sensibility. Whether he's crooning on "Built to Roam" or creating an intricate percussion backdrop on "Roll the Bones", Shakey Graves always satisfies on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shakey Graves is the one-man band of Alejandro Rose Garcia, an actor turned singer-songwriter who launched the project in 2009 while living in Los Angeles. After cutting his teeth in LA's eclectic underground folk scene he returned to his hometown of Austin, TX, where he quickly became a huge local draw with his unique performances at venues on and around artsy Annie Street. In 2011 he released Roll the Bones, wowing critics with his creative, lo-fi take on traditional folk and receiving a nod from NPR, which named him one of ten artists fans "should've known in 2012." He followed up with the Donor Blues EP in 2012, a bluesy slice of poetic folk that drew another round of praise. As renowned for his one-man performances as he is for his recordings, Shakey Graves continues to stun on his must-see tours.

    Wild Child is FREAKING AMAZING!

by JasonWDonnelly on 6/30/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

This is the second time my girlfriend and I got to see the band this year and I've got to say, this time was even better. Not only did we get unbelievable seats because a guy let us up the back staircase early, but the band just killed it on stage. They're definitely one of my favorite bands right now and the fact that they're all so nice and willing to chat with fans before/after the show blows me away. Mark my words, Wild Child will be a household name within 6 months.

Holy crap! Wild Child blew me away! The female lead singer is a powerhouse with this beautifully soulful voice and the whole performance was full of so much joy! I came to see Shakey Graves (who gave a completely knockout performance as well), but I have a new favorite band in Wild Child!

The most talented guitarist I've ever seen

by jacobhwasserman on 6/28/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

Shakey Graves was unbelievable. His guitar technique is unparalleled in combination with keeping the beat with his kick drum and tambourine. The show had so much energy and the entire crowd was dancing and stomping along, I don't think I've ever been to a show like this before where everyone in the room was thoroughly enjoying the music. Wild Child was also incredible, Kelsey has the voice of an angel! Go see Shakey Graves!!

Little disappointed in the length of time (or lack thereof) of Shakey's performance. Always a good venue. Overall had a great time.

Shakey Graves is an unmatched talent

by AlinDumont on 6/25/13Mercury Lounge - New York

It's a very small venue. I was able to get right in close about 8 feet away from Shakey Graves. You could also easily leave your place in line for the restroom or a beer and slot back in nicely.

I have to say it sounded pretty horrible. If he comes around again I'll give him a second chance at a different venue.
