Overall a Great experience despite a couple small bumps

by ConFamily2023 on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

CONS: Celebrities showing up late and leaving early. VIP lines for some celebrities not being done in a fair way. A general admission who got into the event at 10am should not get to see the celebrity before a VIP who has been waiting in line (over an hour) for that celebrity since 9am! Some celebrities were crammed in so close to the walkway that not many people could get in line before the line was capped for safety reasons so people could walk by. Celebrities who change their pricing DURING the event! Celebrities who don't post their prices before the event because they KNOW they are charging too much. Maybe have a limit of 1 at a reasonable price, then more for additional items. My child couldn't get a $20 toy signed by Carl Weathers because Carl wanted $300 for a signature on a toy. Very sad and disappointing experience but a good life lesson I suppose. My child budgeted for this event and felt it was a kick in the stomach. some celebrities are just there for the money. PROS: Majority of celebrities were very friendly, interactive and kind. My family only went to one panel but it was amazing. Loved that there were food trucks outside the event buildings. JSA certification for autographs available on every floor in case someone wants to do that. Jenna Frank (daughter of Jason David Frank) who we observed being so genuine and taking so much time with each person who went to see her. So many celebrities/voice actors who you could tell were appreciative of their fans and humble. This is what it is all about! It was a memorable Rhode Island Comic Con for sure! We'ill definitely go back.

    Incredible, but .......

by Promo Guy on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

Stars = amazing! Panels = Excellent! Lines = gray area. I understand that a lot of people want to see these stars. I have no problem waiting for them. My gripe - lack of communication. The people/employees/volunteers at the tables, when you ask them for an eta on the star returning.... either don't know or tell us a time that end up not even being close to when they actually arrive. PAULA ABDUL - 3:30 was actually 5PM!! Personally, I do not care what they are doing (smoke break, taking a tub, photo-op, etc ) but my/our time is also worth $$. -If I was given the correct times, I would be able to see other people and circle back. Then by maximizing my time, I might find that I have some spare time to check out the vendors which now means they are happy as we are buying items from them. Lastly, VIP - while the prices have kept going up, I still think it has value. I understand lines need to be capped, but shouldn't the VIP still get the privilege of being allowed into the line.....especially when it is the LAST signing of the show and possibly the last time we ever get a chance to meet him/her? Thank you for reading! Have a great year and see you soon!

    Poorly organized

by The Q on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

I have been going to the Rhode Island Comic Con for many years now. This year was the most disorganized one that I have been to. Too bad too, because there was some top-notch Celebrities and artists this year. The Photo Op area was a total mess. Nobody could hear the guy on the microphone. Suggestion: Next year, have screens that show what time and line number each celebrity will be at. Having celebrities in the same room as the Photo Op area was also a bad idea. The Panel room on the fifth floor was cold for many, but I liked it. The quick sketch panel was my favorite (the Cosplay contest is technically not a panel). Lastly, the app to find where things are and where people are located is lacking. I know it is costly to make pamphlets or books, but the better cons do it. Just saying...

    Disappointed

by Comic-Con Veteran on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

I go to comiccons all year round and I’ve been to RI Comic-Con since its first year. To be honest, it’s gone down hill. The vendors are subpar and the celebrities are not as good as they could be.

    Friday great! Saturday AWFUL

by James on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

Friday was great, attendance was not too crazy and everything felt very organized. Saturday however was chaos and completely unorganized from the photo ops to the autograph tables. I am seriously reconsidering if it is worth attending in the future.

    Poor organization but great celebrities

by qt_pie on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

I went last year and last year seemed more organized than this one. My biggest complaint is that they didn’t provide a map (for either convention goers or the volunteers) of the celebrities and where their tables were. I had to keep circling the 3rd floor. They said the map was on the app. The only map was the building blueprint and didn’t include any markings to let you know where any specific celebrities were. (Also, if a celebrity is booked for Sunday, it’s kind of unfair for them to leave for good, hours before the Sunday convention hours end. First time convention goers might not know that celebrities start leaving at 2 or 3 or after their Sunday photo ops.) The fire marshal would have had a field day with the poor planning of the photo op location-people crammed in like a mosh pit awaiting their photo op time. To make matters worse, that mosh pit was also the line to BUY photo ops, creating a further traffic jam. (It also blocked the entrance to the bathrooms and even the entrance to the celebrities who were signing on the 5th floor. One other issue was that they allowed a vendor with a heavy metal band to perform live at throughout the days - RIGHT BY THE SENSORY RECOVERY ROOM!!! With all these problems, why did I give as high of score? The celebrities. The ones at this year’s convention were just sweethearts to everyone…once I finally found where their autograph tables were. One other good point was that they did have lockers and a pretty decent selection of food. And I will say, the staff was friendly, albeit they weren’t given complete maps either.

    Better in past years

by Maverick49 on 11/9/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

6 hour wait with a VIP Pass for one signature very disorganized on the headliner floor. Congested areas everywhere. Photo op area on the 5th floor bad for foot traffic and not a good area. better last year when it was on the 3rd floor in the back. Best part was the guest line up. Still a good con for the area.

    And Lily Munster was Awesome!

by George on 11/8/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

I went to Comic Con to meet the one and only Barbara Eden. She was more than accommodating to all her fans. I met and chatted with a legendary songwriter in Paul Williams. All in all, a great experience! People in costumes from all walks of life. A great Lily "Ayla"Munster too! George Landrie Vets MS Chorus Teacher.

    Excellent will come again

by Sbirch on 11/8/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

This is not my first comic con with Rhode island this is my fourth but my first since I moved out of Massachusetts. I called in sick for my job just to fly from Ohio. What a great experience and so excited to meet allot of my favorite stars. But there were 3 that for sure stood out that I would love to see and talk to again if they ever come to another one they were just a blast those 3 includes Amy Jo Johnson a great personality. Keith coogan and his wife what a blast and amazing people just couldnt ask for a great personality. Paige Turco was just an amazing soul and great to talk to. These three will I no longer see them as a great actors but now if I see them on TV or movies will I just imagine how great these people were to me and I will respect them forever. Can't wait to go to another Rhode Island comic con

    A dream come true.

by Uncle on 11/8/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

It was my first time going to Rhode Island Comic Con, but it was like Hollywood being brought to New England. Meeting your favorite celebrities, the merchandise, the costume contests, the panels, I would go every year any chance I get!

My Second Rhode Island Comic Con was Great

by jpf on 11/8/23Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence

This was my second Rhode Island Comic Con and it was great! The guests/celebrities were truly first rate and lots of vendors offering all types of products. The downside again was having to run from building to building to get those autographs, but what can you do when you have such a large number of celebrities! There was one downside and that was, paying extra for a VIP ticket left some disappointments. Between how to get the swag, the promised swag not being what was expected, though staff did explain why. The real issue with the VIP ticket was, it was supposed to be that you got priority treatment for autographs. Often, more people in the GA line were getting through quicker than VIPs and too many times, people were able to just cut the VIP line because they either knew somebody, had just gotten an autograph at another celebrity of the same show, like Terminator, Sons of Anarchy, etc., but mostly, it was annoying to see GA people get through faster and people who knew somebody being allowed to just march to the front that was a problem.
