ANI DIFRANCO IN CONCERT:
Alt-rock powerhouse and feminist icon Ani DiFranco continues to be a symbol of activism through music, pulling no punches with her socially conscious songwriting more than 20 years after her debut. At her inspiring live shows DiFranco gives it her all, delivering her unfiltered lyrics with a raw emotionalism that perfectly complements her polished guitar playing. From classics like "Shameless" to newer material like "Whose Side Are You On?", DiFranco covers a wide selection of favorites on her latest tour, never failing to have a blast in the process.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Buffalo, NY, DiFranco was a precocious young talent, performing Beatles covers in local bars as early as age nine. Just a few years later she was playing original material in coffee shops, and by age 15 she had moved out of her mother's house to live in her own apartment as an emancipated minor. At age 18 she started her own record company Righteous Records, releasing her self-titled debut album on the label the following year. Over the next two decades DiFranco released a new album nearly every year, touring extensively and earning several Grammy nominations including a Best Contemporary Folk Album nod for 2000's Fellow Workers. Back on the road for her latest tour, the ever-prolific talent will treat fans to never-before-heard material from her upcoming album.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Ani Difranco's performance was truly unforgettable. She changed guitars for every song and even changed some of the acoustics for a few songs. Her voice was even better live!"
"She plays so hard and with such precision. It's like watching the Cirque du Soleil, you see it with your own eyes and you still wonder if it's possible. She's so ceaselessly generous and friendly."
"Her vocals and energy are off the charts. She's funny, engaging and smart. We had a great time. A good mix of the old classics and a couple of brand new ones."
She's just AWESOME. Always has been awesome. Always will be awesome!
The venue is sad, dirty and dated and the show was a snoozer! Better luck next time Ani!
Amazing show, Ani is as prolific as ever - a global gem of passion and power. Her truth telling through music is a balm for the soul of our times.
Watching Ani the week Roe vs Wade was overturned it felt like sunlight cutting through the darkness. Hearing old and new favorite songs, being around other fans, knowing there is still joy and beauty and sanity in the world was just what I needed.
That simple. She’s the real thing. Cool that so many younger people were around
Ani was amazing the issue honestly was with the venue. There was no air circulation and even ani and he bad made multiple comments about how uncomfortably hot it was
Everything about Ani gets better and better with time- I left her show full of gratitude and covered in goosebumps.
Superb concert! An energetic performance by a great musical talent. She energized the crowd, who sang along with many of her songs. She gave a stirring call to action in the face of recent political-legal events.
First, I wouldn’t be the same person without Ani in my life. When I first heard Lost Woman Song in 1993, I was amazed. I had only heard men singing, really - and let’s be honest, the 80s were a very patriarchal time for music, as I was coming of age. Ani kept me company in the car to and from my first jobs, through marriage, parenthood, divorce, remarriage, and now being an executive in FemTech. And now to be a middle aged woman on the front row and seeing her still singing her heart out, feel her happy energy, follow her lead…it lifts me up. She lifts me up. The crowd went crazy for her - so much love. 4 encores weren’t enough. I love you, Ani.
Ani was fantastic, as always. She was full of energy and fierce on the guitar. Her set list was spot on given current events. Terence Higgins was brilliant on drums. The opening act by Abraham Alexander was amazing. All in all, my only complaint is that I wish the concert never had to end.
Ani’s shows never disappoint. All of these years later and her performance is still as magical and powerful as the first time I saw her.
The showroom at Harrah's is not a place I ever would have thought to see Ani perform. It was such an intimate venue. Until Ani realized that we were there to enjoy her unique flavor she held back a bit. Once she opened up it made for a unique experience unlike any other show.
Ani and band were flawless! Incredible sound and show! Ani really knows how to work a room. Vocals were crystal-clear and fabulous, and the whole band jams so well together.
I would’ve given this event 5 stars, but The Observatory was soooooo cold. I was cold even with a jacket and beanie on. An indoor event should never be that cold. It didn’t even matter that it was a sold out show. Ani put on a great show as she always does.
Ani and her band were wonderful as always. My only complaint involves the two very drunk and very loud girls behind us. They were screaming yelling and talking crap throughout the show
As always, Ani gave a wonderful performance which always feels like a personal conversation! And, The Observatory is a wonderful venue for this type of intimate show. There is plenty of room, helpful staff and the lines at the bar were quick. Thanks!
Once the show began it was great -- the speakers, the performance, and of course the interview with Ani. Tickets, the website, the Facebook page, and the pre-show agenda all said that doors opened at 4pm with everything kicking off by 4:30. We drove three hours to attend Babefest, and it started after 5:30 -- we weren't given any updates, no announcements were made, etc. so we were left sitting there, having arrived at 4, wondering why everything was late. Thus we couldn't stay for the reception and book signing because it was all behind schedule. I know schedules change and things happen -- keeping the audience in the loop and making a quick announcement would have drastically improved our experience with the event.
I was so excited to see my teen years idol having an event in New Orleans before she goes on tour all over the world. I reconnected to feminism and love in a way I had not before. I had lost a little bit of that and was refreshed by this experience. Bring your brothers, your sisters to this next event. We need to have this conversation with all walks of life. Grateful. And I hope to help make this event grow. The people I met were awesome and my boyfriend from a small town in the country in the Deep South w southern Baptist parents - loved it. He learned things about himself. Thank you for committing your lives to this mission my sisters who spoke. Your voices were heard and need to heard. An amazing evening. Namaste~~
We danced. We laughed. We sang. In the rain. I wouldn't change a thing. :) <3
Ani Difranco hit Northwest Ohio on a rainy and cold June evening, but definitely brought the heat! This tour is in support of her recent 'No Walls Mixtape,' as well as last year's album 'Binary.' And while many setlists on this run have had an equal number of newer songs and oldies, this night was focussed on the 1990s all the way. Opening with "God's Country," and doing "Dilate" and "Out Of Habit" early in her 90 minute set, she also did "Fire Door" and "Gravel" in the middle, and closed with "Joyful Girl." This was my second time seeing her, but I hope it won't be my last!
