Great Show But Seating Offset Could be Better

by LloydGC222 on 4/14/19Ulster Performing Arts Center - Kingston

I was with a party that very much enjoyed seeing Angelique Kidjo at UPAC. She was amazing, as usual. We loved her renditions of Talking Heads songs. We liked that Angelique engaged with the audience - encouraging the audience to stand up and sing with her at times, walking through the aisles TWICE and inviting audience members to the stage to dance. The aisle walks take up extra time. I would have preferred that she only walk through the aisles once and had given us an extra number or two. On the seating, it becomes virtually impossible to see center stage if two tall people are sitting in front of you. People who design theatres should be required to sit in all the various seats to get an audience member's perspective. It's disappointing to spend money on a concert and then have unexpected partial viewing.

Worth the drive - great artist in great location

by DanzaJoy on 5/24/16Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

Angelique was full of stories and accompanied by very skillful guitarist and percussionist. Her voice was as rich and beautiful as expected. I didn't know a lot about her history so it was a fantastic introduction to an extraordinary person, on top of the joy of both listening to her sing and sharing concert with my parents who had never heard or heard of her. No bad seat in the house. We were fourth route, farthest end.

    A night to remember

by AlumnusCalState on 5/24/16Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

You will be hard pressed to be in the same room with someone with a voice so beautiful. Definitely one of the best voices I've ever heard and a voice given to an extraordinary artist with an extraordinary soul and sense of purpose!

    Angelique's show was disappointing

by menucha on 2/21/14Town Hall - New York

Angelique Kidjo is clearly a powerhouse but the show we saw at the Town Hall was disappointing -- probably because the acoustics were horrid. We could not make out 95% of what she said or sang! We were in the second section of the balcony, but later - at the end of the show we were standing in the front of the balcony, and still could not figure out her words. The musicians were fabulous, but seemed to compete with her in some of the songs - which meant that she had to scream to be heard above them. Regretfully we brought friends from abroad for this performance - for them it was very costly and unfortunately not worth it.

Angelique Kidjo's show was all the way LIVE! The energy in the theatre was contagious. People were dancing in the aisles; singing and bopping heads as Angelique Kidjo put on one of the best shows I've seen.

We timed a holiday to New York just to see Angelique Kidjo and we weren't disappointed. She gave an amazing, energy packed performance and had everyone in the audience dancing. If you get a chance to see her on this tour, grab it!

Great concert, hot music on a dreary night!

by fatadevis on 2/19/14Town Hall - New York

The concert was great and Angelique is a wonderful singer! She has so much energy! We enjoyed tremendously both the dancing and singing. I also enjoyed the fact that she spoke about her dedication and her work on behalf of African women, and their dreams that very few reach and their rights that are pretty much disregarded in many cultures in Africa. It is nice to see singers/actors who use their influence to do good for other people. Lastly, but not in the least, the band was excellent! The drummers, wow!

    Angelique Kidjo was fantastique !!!

by Magksm on 2/18/14Town Hall - New York

She had the audience up and dancing through at least 2/3 of the concert - her music is uplifting her intros are informative - she creates a positive and hopeful feeling that there is a possible future that is much better than what we have now - though it was the first time I've seen her perform I will make every effort to see her any chance I get...

    PHENOMENAL

by Jacha on 2/18/14Town Hall - New York

I love African music; however, it was the first time I attended Angelique Kidjo concert. She is addictive. she is very energetic. She sings & dances through all her songs & she is not out of breath. That is very impressive. All her songs have deep meanings because of her humanitarian & activist background. She makes me proud being a woman of color.

    Amazing Angelique

by Burnsinator on 2/10/14Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Angelique Kidjp showed Atlanta why she is an international superstar. It was a fantastic experience. she's a great singer with a great band, and she had the entire theater on its feet and half on stage with her. Opening act Doria Roberts was a major discovery. she has the talent to headline anywhere.

    Angelique rocked it!

by BirdFlyingHigh on 2/10/14Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I had such an incredible time with Angelique. She is fabulous! She's like that funky aunt that you could only wish for. You know, the one with enough spunk and attitude to fill up a stadium. I LOVED IT. She came out to the crowd to party with everyone, then opened the stage for those adventurous enough to go up there. And we did! And it was awesome!!!!!!! We danced on stage for what seemed like forever. What a party. It was definitely a highlight of my life. I will always remember partying with Angelique. The next time she's in Atlanta, I will be there.

I had a fantastic time. I love the venue and I love the performer. Angelique was dynamic, soulful, and passionate. Her voice inspires, her commitment to the well-being of girls and women is deep and bold, and her devotion to her music is reflected at every turn. If you get a chance to see her, don't miss it. The guest appearance by Branford Marsalis was a bonus treat!
